It’s also worth seeking out companies that will do a donation match. On a website for record collectors I frequent, a bunch of regulars are selling some of our most prized records and sending the resulting money to folks on the board whose companies are doing dollar matching. Thus far, we’ve raised just under $6000, and with a three-to-one match, that $6000 becomes $18,000. It’s not a gaudy sum, but pooling our money and funnelling it through a donation match maximizes the effort.

And remember that many high-tech companies will also generously dollar match. If you work for MS, remember that you can donate up to $12K per calendar year, and the company will match you dollar-for-dollar.
