    @harlana: To answer your question from the last thread: Gay republicans exist for a number of reasons, some of which are as follows: they don’t much care about gay rights AND/OR they aren’t terribly thrilled to be gay AND/OR they don’t much like women/minorities AND/OR they are very wealthy and like living as plutocrats AND/OR they are proponents of US militaristic imperialism AND/OR they are fundamental christians who buy into much of the social conservative schtick AND/OR they are climate change denialists AND/OR they are liberatarians AND/OR they are Andrew Sullivan AND/OR they were raised that way.

    A lot of gay people, like most everyone else, have lots of unexamined priviledge, some of which makes it easier for them to support and vote for politicians who work against (some of) their interests. Also, speaking as a lefty member of the LGBTQI alphabet soup, gay people of all stripes are just as variable in their beliefs and practices as non-gay people – why shouldn’t some of us be f*ck-wits like the str8s?

    As I age I’ve noticed the summers growing shorter and shorter. When I lived in NYC I welcomed the fall, now that I live in northern New England, I dread it. It’s not the cold that bothers me so much, but the darkness.

    @schlemizel – was Alwhite: Yes, a gay active duty military member was booed in response to a question about DADT. None of the flag-lapel wearing candidates on the stage dared to rebuke the audience for booing.

    the most important thing about fall is football. baseball is boring, soccer is for kids who can’t play other sports or have overprotective whiny parents who know deep down their kids are inferior. hockey iis great but its not football.

    football is great because every type of athleticism has its place within the game, its fully integrated and explosive.

    i never rue the end of summer, because it always comes with the start of football. when you have sweat through 2 and 3 a day practices, the rain, the cold, the chill, is like a respite that only sharpens the senses.

    From what I have heard, yes, that is the best this band can manage. Maybe I’m another old fart, but I think Florence and the Machine are the worst Grammy nominees since Debbie Boone.

    As for autumnal equinox, love it. Fall is my favorite time of year. From the return of students to campus, to the start of football season (and the end of the worst sport evah, sorry baseball fans), to the fabulous foliage, to Thanksgiving, it’s simply glorious. The only thing I hate about fall is Halloween. And an extra special bonus for me this year, my birthday falls on my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.

    The Chesapeake Bay is home to numerous fauna that either migrate to the bay at some point during the year or live there year round. There are over 300 species of fish and numerous shellfish and crab species. Some of these include the Atlantic menhaden, Striped bass, American eel, Eastern oyster, and the Blue crab.

    The bay is mostly known for its seafood production, especially blue crabs,[21] clams and oysters

    You haven’t lived until you’ve had a Maryland blue crab feast. But I’ve never had better seafood anywhere I’ve ever been. IMHO, the Chesapeake is the best seafood in all of America. YMMV.

    No worries — I definitely dig the Chesapeake area. Worked there in Baltimore for 5 years. Met hubby there and got married there. DIG blue crabs and rock fish and will work on enviro issues to help the Bay.

    That said, I will miss the coastline and sea that has become my home on the Left Coast. The rugged shoreline, mountains and the fat legged crustacean answer to the Blue Crab, the Dungeness… I have worked for years to help restore salmon runs in local creeks here… so many issues to preserve this beauty and richness.

    I love both and will support both habitats with all my heart and soul until the day I die. For real
