Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

“But what about the lurkers?”

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

This fight is for everything.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Happy New Year everyone. I’m glad I missed all the excitement yesterday. I pretty much stayed on Tom Levenson’s thread, which was delightfully troll-free.

I think the migraine that seemed to be looming is actually a sinus headache — yay?

I would probably be looking forward to 2012 more if both my dad and my father-in-law weren’t chronically ill. (Dad, COPD and kidney failure; FiL, cancer.) I’m dreading losing one of them in 2012.

I wouldn’t be doing my self-appointed job if I didn’t link to the Guardian on the final day of the year. For your amusement and edification then, here is the “News Quiz of the Year 2011”:

    guardian.co.uk/world/quiz/2011/dec/26/news-quiz-of-the-year-2011

(I scored an A- bond rating, having answered incorrectly every single question on social media, not at all surprising for this Luddite.)

A bountiful and healthy New Year to one and all here! “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night” (all 366 of them). Skoal!

    @Mnemosyne:

Would rather have a sinus headache than a migraine.

Dad and FIL getting up there in years? If so, they’ve lived long, happy lives. Hopefully the end will not be painful, that’s the best you can hope for with conditions like those.

    Courage.

Who said, “Your face will melt off and your children will weep over your exploded body”?

Apropos of nothing–the Quantico Marine Corps Base Brig, made famous by its mistreatment of PFC Bradley Manning, is set to close as a cost-cutting measure.
