Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

That meeting sounds like a shotgun wedding between a shitshow and a clusterfuck.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

Let me file that under fuck it.

Lautenberg

This is not an attempt to take advantage of an illness, but I just saw Frank Lautenberg speak and he appears as if he has some sort of senile dementia. That could be why he is refusing to debate the opposition. I guess it doesn’t matter, because we all know that the Dems just want him to win the seat and resign, giving it to the young African-American fellow whose name escapes me (who has the dementia now?).

James Lileks on Realistic Environmentalism, and What his Daughter Will Learn

Let me be quite clear on this: my daughter is not going to pledge allegiance to healthy dirt. I will teach her all I believe about stewardship of the world. I will conspicuously recycle the cans and glasses and papers, even though I suspect it

I Can Agree With This- No New Legislation is GOOD Legislation (via Sully)

For conservatives who find evidence of the liberal media conspiracy everywhere they look, the Broder take on gridlock looks like liberal bias. Which, of course, it is. When Republicans go on a parliamentary tear, passing, for example, a tax cut, the Broderites don’t celebrate the clearing of the legislative blockage. But it also speaks to the journalistic preference of something to report rather than nothing. From the press gallery, congressional gridlock looks like a 0-0 soccer match in the rain with no shoot-out in sight. Who wants to write about that? Where are the visuals?

Steelers win, and the best

Steelers win, and the best part of the night is this:

Fans chanted “Terry, Terry, Terry” as Bradshaw accepted his No. 12 Steelers jersey from team president Dan Rooney and vice president Art Rooney II.

“It’s good to be home,” said Bradshaw, who was accompanied on the field by his two daughters.

Bradshaw, who led the Steelers to four Super Bowl championships, felt slighted after retiring and he occasionally made critical comments about former coach Chuck Noll. He felt so estranged from the Steelers he didn’t attend the funeral of team founder Art Rooney in 1988.

But Bradshaw, apparently moved by the death of Hall of Fame center Mike Webster last month, said he was wrong to have stayed detached from the Steelers. He also said he greatly exaggerated any talk of a strained relationship with Noll, and that he has no problems with the way Noll treated him during his 14-year career.

Bradshaw and Noll hugged during Webster’s funeral, and Bradshaw — now a Fox Sports NFL commentator — said he is now determined to stay close to his former teammates and the Steelers organization.

Welcome back, Terry. You left me, but I am happy to have you back in the family.

Sorry for the lack of

Sorry for the lack of posts, but sometimes I need a break. The news gets me down if I pay too much attention to it, so every now and then I take a few days off. Plus, I have been spending a lot of time with the new addition to my family, my cat. I love animals, all kinds and all types, and I have always had a soft spot for the little critters. At any rate, it is amazing how different my house is since I got Tunch- I can not get over how a 7 pund cat/kitten just changes the dynamics.

Since getting a cat (this is not my first- we always had numerous cats and dogs when I was growing up), I have noticed several things. There seem to be several breeds of cat-hater out there. They break down as follows:

1.) People who are allergic to cats.

Totally understandable- I would hate anything that was totally avoidable and caused me respiratory problems and other issues. I can understand these people.

2.) People who think it is somehow unmasculine or uncool to like cats.

Grow up.

3.) People who think cats don’t like people and don’t have any emotions.

Have never seen Tunch or my other previous cats greet me when I get home from work, sprawl out and pass out on my stomache when I read or watch television, or the almsot constant afection cats give to people when the person is at their busiest (bat the fingers on the keyboard appears to be a source of constant amusement for cats).

4.) People who are too stupid to understand cats.

And there are a few of you out there. Move slowly. Be gentle. They don’t hate you- they are simply danger/pain averse.

5.) People who don’t understand cats.

Again, a large group of people. They have personalities. They don’t come when YOU call them, but Tunch comes when I call him. We have a reputation and a relationship. Try this- go to a bar, and yell a girls’ name out that you do not know. Are you HONESTLY surprised when she does not come running over to you? If so, you probably have a lot of dateless nights.

6.) People who do not deserve a cat.

You usually fit into the previous five categories, as well.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t love cats more than dogs. They are just different. I do, however, love my cat. And I don’t care what you think, you macho asshole.

I’m a Communist! No You Aren’t! Am too! Are Not!

This is the funniest damn thing I have read in a long time- the fringe left at their best (worst?). Make sure you read the comments, too.

They can’t even decide what to call themselves or each other, much less cogently debate an issue, or even arrange a peace rally. Just plain beautiful.
