Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

You cannot shame the shameless.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

“A king is only a king if we bow down.” – Rev. William Barber

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

T R E 4 5 O N

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

People are weird.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty. ~Thomas Jefferson

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

I am willing to bet this little experiment did not go through Institutional Review:

HARTFORD, Conn. – Three college students were arrested for allegedly staging a kidnapping as a part of a psychology experiment to see how bystanders would react.

James Sanchez, 21, Steven DiStefano, 19, and Lun Chai, 19, were charged with breach of peace, which is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Idiots.

Guess Who

by John Cole|  May 16, 20037:01 pm| 8 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

Guess who said this:

Hillary Clinton is never going to be president of the United States. There is no more divisive figure in the Democratic Party, much less the country, than the former first lady. And I like her. But many women don’t. Even Democratic women. Even working women. Not to mention non-working, independent, non-political women. She can be a great senator. She’s smart, hard working and effective. She is much respected among her peers.

But the more people talk about her as a future president, the more money Republicans raise. The more people talk about her as a future president, the less attention the current candidates, who might win, receive.

And this, about Atrios’s hero Sydney Blumenthal:

If the issue is ethics, no one has less than Sidney Blumenthal. He used to call me, during the Dukakis campaign, which I was running and he was supposed to be covering, to offer covert advice, which if accepted might result in better coverage. Much later, when I criticized him, he tried to get me in trouble with my editors. All the while, I was defending his boss. That’s Sidney. He’s Hillary’s best friend. No wonder Republicans are delighted to see his return to the spotlight.

What member of the VRWC said this? Ann Coulter? Nope.

Rush Limbaugh? Nope.

Sean Hannity? Nope.

The WSJ editorial board? Nope.

Why, none other than Dukakis campaign manager Susan Estrich.

The Worst Job Ever

This post is in: Humorous

You think you have the worst job ever? Fraid not- it could be worse, you could be a teaser stallion:

The teaser stallion awaits in the breeding shed. He is led about by the halter, awaiting the arrival of the mare. In this case, no ordinary mare, but a quality producing daughter of Crusader Sword. The teaser does his job quickly and efficiently and the mare warms up to him rapidly. In the blink of an eye, the teaser is led out of the shed and replaced by Fantastic Light, a two time champion and Breeder’s Cup winner.

Must be how Al Gore felt in 2000.

This will be a tutorial based on my experiences dealing with the lunatic fringe. I will state my premise, Persons A and B will respond in typical troll form. All arguments proceed in this general manner:

John Cole:) The sky is blue, grass is green, and birds fly.

Person A.) I am not sure where you get your information, but it is just the selected Presidency of Bush/Cheney that want you to believe that the sky is blue, the grass is green, and that birds fly. In their quest for global hegemony and their never-ending pursuit for oil money, these are fictions that have been hoisted upon the public so that you will remain docile while they raid the economy to take money from the poor to give to their rich friends. You can also not forget the importance of the Jewish cabal who planned and carried out the 9/11 atrocities so as to provide cover for all of the belligerent, unilateral, military actions that we are currently undertaking. And even though I deny your premise that the sky is blue, since the Cowboy Bush backed out of Kyoto, angering the world community, the sky will shortly be nothing but a vast ozone hole devoid of anything.

John Cole:) Did you even read the links I provided or did you just feel the need to lash out? Try checking out the facts I have provided.

Person A.) Oh sure. John Cole always believes only his ‘facts,’ and fails to consider anything said by anyone else. Why don’t you look into the facts I have just provided you. Besides, it is clear where your facts come from- you can not trust any of those right-wing, war-mongering cheerleaders from the Richmond Audobon Society, Michigan State University, or the Freepers at Why is the Sky Blue Dot Org. In fact, one of the members at the Richmond Audobon Society watches Fox News and the mascot at MSU is “Sparty” the Spartan, clear evidence of their bias towards aggression and a Eurocentric, phallo-centric viewpoint of a world dominated by white male aggression.

John Cole:) What the hell are you talking about? Are you nuts? Go read the links I have provided, and then try to refute it based on contradictory evidence or, at the very least, rudimentary logic and reason.

This is usually when the valiant savior pipes in, coming to the aid of his comrade.

Person B:) John Cole writes: What the hell are you talking about? Are you nuts?

This is typical of the profanity and belligerence I have encountered from John Cole on numerous websites. When he is losing an argument, instead of providing facts, he simply starts name-calling and swearing. Typical behavior from a Freeper. Why does everyone on the right wing hate so much? Also, John Cole conveniently leaves out that the sky is not blue at night, when it is black. Is this because he is a racist, and he has trouble with the color black? Also, everyone knows that grass is brown in the winter- the color of the millions of disaffected minorities and civilian casualties injured in our unwarranted military conquest of the world. John Cole also fails to point out that the Emu and the Ostrich can not fly, and both of them are predominantly brown/black. I think what we really need to do is ask John Cole why he hates black people and Arabs? Why do you link on your website to racists like Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs, Mr. Cole?

John Cole:) Are either of you going to comment about the statements I have made, or are you simply going to keep spewing this nonsense from this fantasy world you have created?

Person A:) We are not the ones living in a fantasy world, you vile racist. Unka Karl has you right where he wants you. Why don’t you go home and put some holes in your pillow cases and watch Faux News or MSGOP, you ugly troll.

Person B:) Hey, Person B- Did you see Raimondo’s new piece in Arab News showing that Ted Rall was right about Chimpy’s adminstration using the blood of Arab children to refine oil cheaper, before forcing one-legged bomb victims to carry it on their backs to an Israeli port for shipment to Halliburton? SF Indymedia predicted this 6 months ago.

Jesse Jackson, Asshole

by John Cole|  May 16, 20034:58 pm| 3 Comments

This post is in: General Stupidity

Is there any question that Jesse Jackson is a race pimp? I know the left gets their panties in a knot when you say you want to beat someone with a tire iron, but if I had a choice of who I would club, it would start with this wart on humanity’s arse (and I don’t give a shit about how much ‘good’ he may have done in the past):

From the Stanford Review:

Mr. Jackson spent a large portion of his speech emphasizing the existence of a racial divide in the United States. He demanded that the audience look closely at the military, which is 35% black and 15% Latino. He argued that the withdrawal from Iraq of the Marines, who have a higher white percentage, suggests racism on the part of this nation’s military commanders, as the Army, which has a higher percentage of blacks than the Marines, would have remain in Iraq. He argued that the US builds itself up on the backs of “the black, the brown, and the poor.”

I want to see the left defend this one. Oh, then there was this word salad from Jackson:

We didn’t know how good baseball could be until we could play.” He also questioned, “Why is it on the ballfield that we can rise above skin color and focus on uniform color?”

Um, because survival in sport is based upon strict meritocracy?

He mentioned that sports is the one area where blacks do not have to run 12 yards for a first down to prove themselves whereas whites only have to run eight for a first down.

I’d run twelve-teen yards to punch you in the mouth.

Buh-bye, Lalas

So The Lakers lost. I really don’t care much about basketball, but I must admit I am more inclined to watch the finals now that Dallas or Sacramento might be in the big game. The only reason I am even remotely upset the Lakers lost is because I know how much they mean to a certain Reno resident. Go visit him and hit his tip jar to cheer him up (and ask him what grievous sin we must have committed for him to drop us from his blogroll).

At 8:46 PM, despite the fact that a terrible thunderstorm had knocked out his power and a tornado might be in the region, the Instapundit had this to say:

OKAY, ONE MORE: No damn tornado’s gonna stop me from posting.

He has not been heard from since.

*** Update ***

Neither rain, sleet, or tonadoes- he is back, ‘Multi-tasking as Usual,’ as MommaBear noticed.
