Oliver doesn’t want to play by the new rules the Democrats have created. According to him, the Kerry ‘affair’ story should be over. The Calpundit agrees:
Did John Kerry have an affair with an intern? Drudge says yes. Kerry says no. The intern says no. And her parents, who thought Kerry was a “sleazeball” a few days ago, now say they plan to vote for him for president.
I guess we can stick a fork in this one….
Gee. Bush says he was not AWOL and not a deserter. The military says he was not AWOL or a deserter (in the form of a DD-214), his pay and attendance records show he was not AWOL, and several people have come forward to corroborate his story. I wonder where Kevin will stick his fork on this issue?
Personally, I don’t think there is much to the Kerry story- but I try to be fair- even to people whose politics I don’t like. And, I might note, I think it is only fair that Kerry get the same treatment from our media elites that the Senior Bush received.

But that was different!
Let’s see Kerry’s complete military records! He surely reported all those war crimes he claims to have witnessed, didn’t he?

The first line above should have (end sarcasm) at the end.
Oliver
The problem is, Bush still hasn’t accounted for his missing year. There’s also a world of difference between Matt Drudge allegations and a president running around saying he’s “a war president” who may have shirked his military duty.
John Cole
Of course he has, Oliver, That is what the pay records show, an that is why KEvin Drum has moved on to the ‘the records are doctored.’ If they didn’t show that he had fulfilled his obligations, then Kevin wouldn’t need to make up this fiction.

Since we’re playing the “guilty until proven innocent” game here…can Kerry AND Ms. Polier show us documentation that proves they weren’t together? Can they document that they could not possibly have been alone together? ANY day undocumented is a chance that they are covering up…

To many of us, the story isn’t about being AWOL or desertion, it’s about all the inconsistencies in the presidents story. It’s about why the man can’t recall anything about the time in question in 72 and 73. All we get is “I recall serving”. Someone finally comes forward (Calhoun, I think) and he says he served with Bush at a time that, from the president’s accounts, Bush wasn’t there. I’d like to see this story run its course and be finished but each new bit of evidence the White House releases or finds keeps bringing up new questions.

Pres. Bush released records that disproved the National Guard smear…now I call upon Kerry to do the same. I demand he show proof that he didn’t have an affair with this woman

Far North: You remember what you were up to weekend-by-weekend more then 30 years ago? Know many people who were in college back then and know which classes they skipped? Know anyone who was working and remembers which days they were sick and didn’t make it? Of course not. It was 30 years ago!
The records say he was there. He says he was there. He never said different, BTW so I’m not sure what inconsistency you’re talking about. Unless I suppose it’s the goalposts moving over at calpundit.

There is as much evidence that John Kerry committed war crimes in Vietnam as there is that George Bush was AWOL from the National Guard. Given the contempt Kerry exhibis for anyone poorer than Ted Kennedy, I’d bet Kerry killed more innocent Vietnamese than Bush missed drills.

OH Yeah.. youd better see this!

How about in his credibility?

Like I said elsewhere, the time is fast approaching where all presidential candidates will be required to present full video records of where they were and what they were doing every minute of every day of their entire lives.
And when that day comes, Oliver will probably just claim that some early morning hour of some day in the President’s college days was doctored by the CIA so he could go out on a one-hour crack binge.

You would think that people who consider the president to have the mental aptitude of a warm rock to also expect him NOT to remember what exactly happened for a couple of months thirty years ago.
That, however, is not the case. He is expected to remember exactly what he was doing, the dates he was doing them on, and to produce the names and home addresses of those who saw him doing what he claimed. And, as was shown with the pay stubs, even if this was provided, he, like, you know, LIED. Because, of course, Bush is a liar and a fraud, etc., etc.
I suppose asking for consistency is a bit too much.
