Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Second rate reporter says what?

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Bark louder, little dog.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

I really should read my own blog.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup got record ratings! Sadly that may be the high water mark.

If you are starting an NBA team from scratch, and you could draft anyone in the league with your first pick, who would you choose? Kobe is at his peak, but may not have as many years left as, say LeBron or Paul. I don’t trust Yao’s durability, especially long term, so he’s out. I’d go Chris Paul, because I think a classic point guard is harder to come by than a scorer.

    Kobe sure can dunk, though.

I really wish I had cable, because the most compelling program on my TV right now is COPS.

And in other never-televised/never-watched sports news, Ted Kennedy’s boat Mya came in dead last in the Class-F Division of the Figawi sailboat regatta from Hyannis to Nantucket and back. Ted skippered the boat on it’s return leg after meeting the Mya by ferry on Nantucket and has won the event twice in the past.

It sucks to lose, but at least the man showed up. I salute you Skip. Get well soon.

Kevin Garnett – Yeah he’s 30 and has been in the league for 12 years, but so what? What he brings to the gym cannot be matched except by very few. He brings size, scoring, defense, and leadership. Plus, he sucks because he doesn’t play for the Wolves anymore.

Kobe is a fraud and unworthy of the MVP. Have him buy me a $7M diamond (like he did his cheated-upon wife) and maybe I’ll think about it.

CP3 is talented, but I’ll take a talented forward before I start looking for a talented guard.

Jus’ wondering – Does every NHL team still own (or subsidize) a pro lacrosse team? When the NHL locked out a few years back my local club (the Wild) forced me to buy season tix to the MN Swarm in order to keep my ticket priority for the Wild once the NHL got it’s shit back together.

I went to a few Swarm games to check out the novelty of pro lacrosse but 90% of my season tix went to open seats that season. Never went back. Not that the sport was bad or anything, but they tried too hard to make it look “major league” (cheerleaders, shitload of music during timouts, and what can only be regarded as “staged fights”) that it was virtually bush league.

I managed to hold onto my NHL tix due to that travesty, but now I’m on the perpetual mailing/calling list of “your Minnesota Swarm!!!!11!”

    Gag.

I really wish I had cable, because the most compelling program on my TV right now is COPS.

What’s really needed in this world is an all-COPS all-the-time network. If I have to kill 26 minutes waiting for the game to come on, I’d watch the COPS network. If the between-periods interview is lame, I’d flick to the COPS network. If the game ends early and I have to wait an hour for Men In Black to start on TBS, I’d watch the COPS network.
