Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

A Cry for Help

For the love of everything Holy, please find something useful for these people to do. They have been at this all damned day. Fix potholes, serve in Iraq, give blood. Anything. I have an old rubiks cube lying around somewhere if that will occupy them.

*** Update ***

Seriously, this from the bottom of the first post I linked, is classic:

The finger pointing about who attended what hearing when seems besides the point anyways.

Both men have been AWOL from their day jobs for most of the past two years while they are running for president.

Any guess why they are finger pointing? Maybe because a certain band of idiots has devoted a large chunk of time and bandwidth covering the “finger pointing?” I dunno. Just a guess.

This will only get worse in August.

Personally, I was delighted and proud to learn that Jim DeMint can write a letter.

You’re just jealous John. We know you wish you were a hotshot like Jake Fapper and got paid the big bucks to do nothing but drool on your keyboard and respond to what other people have drooled on their keyboards:

Um…fellas. Jake Tapper here. I didn’t write the above, Z. Byron Wolf did.

The blog I wrote on the matter is here:

Tapper has a comment section that makes commenting meaningless. Almost as bad as Ben at Politico.

Complete crap, both above and below the fold for both of them.

The media will parrot things or make them up. Which is better? I’m still looking for the actual criteria used to determine that whatever candidate the Democrats nominate is the “Mostest Liberal _______ Evah!” (with Senator, Governor, SAG President, or whatever in the blank.) There will be stories about which candidate missed the most meetings, as if meetings have anything to do with getting things done in DC. Really, do you think Charlie Rangel does anything else buy ask questions seventeen hours a day? And accomplishes what? I guess he keeps Administration officials from doing their jobs, which is a good thing. But does it make him the best Administrator of the country? I don’t think so.

McCain and Obama are both running for President. They’ll miss a lot of vitally important votes timed just so they’ll not be there. Also, they’ll be fundraising rather than petting their cats and dogs, which is as bad as kicking them. And ignoring their wives, which will be the new accusation against Obama since his wife isn’t going on his foreign tour. Of course if he brought his wife and kids to Afghanistan, I might think of him as an abusive asshole. On the other hand, Cindy McCain can fly her private plane over the entire Afghan/Pakistani border region for all I care, but only if she drops empty beercans and prescription bottles on the citizenry.

Meanwhile, Obama attended the full Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Afghanistan in March 2007, although he used the opportunity to ask Gen. James L. Jones, then the commander of NATO, about Pakistan.
    Nice.

Obama chairs the European Affairs Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which has oversight of military operations in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has nothing to do with Afghanistan because, apparently, Afghanistan is in Europe.

The success of Afghanistan is critical to the future of NATO …

Somewhere in Europe bordering on the North Atlantic. I think it’s right next to Belgium now.

…Central Command — which overseas U.S. troops in Afghanistan

I thought that was the European Affairs Subcommittee!

There was also hearing on June 7, 2007, on the nomination of Gen. Douglas Lute to be the White House war czar with oversight over Afghanistan.

    I thought that was CentCom!
