Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

People are complicated. Love is not.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

Hot air and ill-informed banter

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Everybody saw this coming.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

People are weird.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

No one could have predicted…

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Devilstower continues the great series of posts on evolution at GOS. Excellent reading and quite fascinating for those of us not familiar with the histroy of eugenics.

I bought a new camera a few days ago, went out yesterday with it and snapped a few (scores, really) in different modes-auto, shutter priority, aperture p, etc etc. Wanted especially to see if I could reproduce this picture. This is one attempt from a moving quad, one handed. It came out OK. Better color, just not quite capturing the essence as well. Not holdin his tongue right. LOL

Me, I’m doing NaNoWriMo, so I will probably be around less. Here is a photography edition, SoFoBoMo.

@jeffreyw: I wasn’t on last night. Jack back yet? *crosses fingers*

cdmarine, I really dig that pic. I noticed it when you first posted a link to your Flickr site.

Since the Steelers are on a bye, does that mean no football thread?

I’d like to offer up a suggestion of a “Go Bills” thread in its place…

    Yee-haw Bills interception…

I took Balty, Detroit and Minnesota amongst others. In the afternoon, I’d like to see the Titans take it over Jax.

For those of you who get it, the Sundance channel is/was showing a 75 minute documentary on Henri Cartier-Bresson. Don’t know if they’ll show it again but it’s worth keeping an eye out for it.

My oldest is doing that, too. We kicked in 25 clams to keep the servers running for another hour or two. Good luck!

I’m glad to see b&w pix, digital almost killed the form entirely.

Me too (though I haven’t been around much anyway, thanks to work).

Today I turned thirty. It beats the alternative, I guess.

@R-Jud: Happy birthday, fellow Scorpio! I’m almost a quarter-century ahead of you, and believe me, despite the deterioration of the physical infrastructure, the improved learning curve in the emotional/mental realms make it worth marching forward.

Jeebus! I step away for awhile and it’s “Yay for me!” day! Very glad people like that shot. It was something of an accident, actually. I had been working on an entirely different shot for a couple of hours and just not getting what I wanted. I just said, “OK, just shake it out and go all limp and rubbery,” and that’s what happened. It’s a little unnerving that the creative process is so often random like that, but that’s what it is.

@jeffreyw: True dat. Love always learns.

    @asiangrrlMN: Thanks!

@chris, @RainKing: LOL! Always good to see the cult of me in attendance.
