That fountain shot is fantastic. Ice makes for some really beautiful photographs.

Wow. That first one really has a “Third Man” look to it. Nice.

I don’t know what is more interesting about this statement from Palin, that she admits she’s lying and would do it again or that she thinks she is communicating like Reagan did.
MNPundit
You have to read Sully’s post this morning.
He has been totally, utterly, Palinized.
Hahahaha.
MikeJ
I see no contradiction here.
asiangrrlMN
That first photo is stunning. Very noir. As for the second, I laughed at the statement. Lock box. Heh.

@BDeevDad:
We may be at the beginning of the end of the Palin fixation, because every word that comes out of her mouth contradicts every other word that comes out of her mouth, and for those few words that are not in contradiction, make no sense at all in any context that comports with reality. We appear to be just a few days away from the collective throwing up of hands by everyone with a forum in either ink or online media, because there is simply no “there” there.
And then again, there’s always a new lower threshhold to crawl under just when you think we’ve reached bottom. Sigh.

Anyone have any unique suggestions for a birthday treat for my dog?

Sasha Baron Cohen was on Fresh Air yesterday, talking about his movie Bruno that just came out on DVD.
There’s a scene in the movie where he tries to get Ron Paul to make a sex video with him in a hotel suite bedroom. (Bruno interviews Paul in the main part of the suite, until there is a ‘camera malfunction’. Bruno suggests they relax in the other room. Bruno puts on music, and strips down to a g-string at which point Paul flips out and leaves.)
I’d heard something about that, but what I didn’t know was that Paul was the 4th attempt to do the scene.
They also went through the scene with Tom Ridge, Gary Bauer, and John Bolton.
And those are on the DVD.

@MNPundit:
Sully’s got hold of some kind of bone, also, too:
Palinized, indeed. He’s on a Crusade.
Dan
I would like every reference to Palin to include her name preceded by a title that everyone uses (such as “King of Pop, Michael Jackson . . . “). In her case it would be “National Nitwit, Sarah Palin.”
“Later today on ABC, more of Barbara Walter’s interview with National Nitwit, Sarah Palin.”
Just Some Fuckhead
I believe that’s Al Gore’s handwriting on the box.

Tim –
I completely LOVE this series. Please keep it up. Perfect for Balloon Juice!
MikeJ
this has nothing to do with Palin, SUlly, or photography, but I must say this:
I hate this goddamned doppelgänger fight in dragon age.

MN Pundit beat me to putting up Andrew Sullivan’s post today.
Seems like he and his staff of 2 want to fact-check and review Palin’s book and get it right the first time — (1) for his readers and any lazy journalists who read his work so they don’t have to, and (2) to avoid any lawsuits by the former governor.
Do LOVE that Sullivan put his cards on the table, if, ahem, he has any cards coming:
“There is a possibility here of such a huge scandal that we would be crazy not to take our time either to debunk it OR MOVE IT FORWARD FOR FURTHER EXAMINATION.”
I don’t know about calling Palin the head of the GOP, although she’s one of its most [in]famous members.
But it’s hard to remember a purely vanity project of running for President — of this magnitude. Steve Forbes never sucked all the air out of any room. Ever. Jesse Jackson got that American flyer released and has some gravitas in there along with his shtick.
Don’t watch cable anymore, but caught some of Campbell Brown last night (no sound; it was on someone else’s screen). Did she do a good job, or a thorough one? Any couching of terms, so as not to offend any Palinistas watching?
cervantes
I believe Sully thinks that there is a magic bullet of contradiction or biological impossibility in the Palin book which will blow the lid off whatever TF is the true story behind the gestation of Trig. Even if this is so, I wonder whether the corporate media is willing to go there.
I also think that her being a blithering idiot, a pathological liar and a malignant narcissist is enough reason to discount her political future and personally, I would rather have her to kick around. But we’ll see what happens.
Elizabelle
PS: those are some excellent photos. Really like these threads.
The first one is way beyond my pay grade!
Elizabelle
Dang, Cat Lady — hadn’t refreshed and seen you just seized the same quote.
Is there any possibility whatsoever that Trig was actually born before his April 18 (or whatever) due date?
Although Sarah’s being a superannuated teenager who didn’t want to acknowledge her 5th pregnancy seems possible too. Some Dish reader suggested that months ago, and it fits the facts. Sort of …
MikeJ
Why the fuck would anybody even care? Sorry, this obsession with other people’s wombs is disgusting.
If you can’t think of 47 other reasons why letting this moron within ten miles of the levers of power you have serious problems. There’s no reason to become a panty sniffer too.
kommrade reproductive vigor
A. Great pics.
B. With all the things that are blatantly wrong with the winking psychobilly, I don’t see how anyone has time to give a flaming damn about when the kid was born. I mean, really? She’s lied so much I wouldn’t be at all surprise to learn she’s really a former Merchant Marine from Albania. Also.
C. Cat Lady said bone. Heh.
Elizabelle
MikeJ: agree that her “qualities” for office, or lack thereof, are evident to anyone rational.
BUT lying about Trig Starburst? Or getting taken down for improprieties with building that lakefront home?
A lot of her supporters enjoy the “victim” mantle, but being lied to, in a fantastic manner, might cull the herd.
Or not. (Sigh.)
kommrade reproductive vigor
D. Or, what MikeJ said.
Cat Lady
@Elizabelle:
Who knows? I really don’t care about whether or when re Trig, but the lying about things large, small, and in between is just creepily disturbing. She makes shit up without any hesitation, with no regard for anything she’s said before, or whether it makes any sense, and doesn’t care. It’s pathological, and it’s coupled with magical god is my fairy godmother thinking, while she’s rifling through your wallet. No good can come of this for her or anyone involved with her.

Many “interesting” thoughts from Mary Matalin on Palin’s book. However this one really blew me away:
“Time is the most valuable commodity on a campaign and you just can’t waste it thinking about how to choose your words carefully or get your job done more diplomatically. If someone isn’t in tears every day, that day wasn’t all it could be advancing the campaign. I once witnessed an experienced (big) man slap a professional female colleague across the face over an ad buy… and no one thought anything of it, starting with the woman. In fact, she would have been insulted if anyone told her she should have been insulted.”
Really? Time being precious makes this acceptable? Wow…

fReichtard Froth Alert.
Obama’s half-brother’s wife is Chinese. This PROVES Obama wants to sell us to China!
Bank on it.
Martin
Well, Sully seems to think that if Palin mentioned having milk on her cereal only to learn that she’s lactose intolerant that it would be ‘blowing the lid’ off of things.
Sorry, but I don’t see anything material coming out of the book other than more sniping around the edges. Real dirt requires evidence and that’s not going to be in the book. I doubt that Levi has evidence either. At most it’ll be a tabloid shitstorm.
cleek
@BDeevDad:
ho-lee-fuck
see Sarah
see Sarah spin
spin Sarah, spin!
Mario Piperni
Levi Johnston’s first topless Playgirl pic is out.
Here’s one Playgirl is refusing to publish.
Dan
Real dirt on her is not going to come from HER book. It was written by her. The only dirt is the dirt that she is throwing.
WereBear
@BrianG: Wow, thanks for sharing.
The fact that they must have been Republicans is both dismaying and unsurprising.
Though in my mental follow-up, I picture something like:
“When he was then kicked in the nuts he agreed that his strategy could use some tweaking.”
Elizabelle

“[Palin’s lying is] pathological, and it’s coupled with magical god is my fairy godmother thinking, while she’s rifling through your wallet. No good can come of this for her or anyone involved with her.”
You need to have your own blog! I would read it.
PS to all: how do I pull quotes into a blockquote, with the fancy border, like all you technically savvy folks do?
MikeJ
@Elizabelle:
Copy and paste the text into the reply box (ctrl-c, ctrl v).
Highlight that text (right mouse or shift arrow keys).
click the b-quote button right above the text area. Blockquote tags will appear around the text. Or you can type in the blockquote tags yourself, but most people don’t like doing that.
I think cleek has something on his blog about turning off bold and multi para blockquoting, which is a 200 level class.

@kommrade reproductive vigor:
So is Obama’s half-sister’s husband. Plus, too (also), he is Canadian.
Scary times, eh?
Poopyman
I’m sarahed out. So on a completely unrelated note …
Tengrain wants you to see this video, and I completely agree.
Must be the aftershave.
MNPundit
I think that line of Sully’s was misinterpreted. He’s saying a huge (Trig)scandal could be there, and if so he doesn’t want to miss it.
I think his persistence about Trig is insane and hysterical.
Elizabelle
Thank you MikeJ.
Will find something cool to share and try out the blockquoting.
Batocchio
I love the fountain photo. I agree with The Third Man comment.
Hobelhouse
Help. Help. I think someone’s spiked the water supply again. 52% of Republicans think ACORN stole the election.
Help. I think the world has gone insane.
