DKos is exploding in rage right now. Hate to say it, but this makes the Dems look like the spineless bastards many of them are. I suspect 2010 elections are going to be just catastrophic for the donkeys.
In better news, it FINALLY snowed here.

Yeah, I decided that GOS will be radioactive for probably the next 2 months. And it’ll be sad to see progressives abandon their party over such a minor issue.

It is time for National Strikes. It is time to shut this economy fucking down until the plutocrats call uncle.
And I feel so much better about having Voted Nader in 2000 now. I’m glad to no longer call myself a Democrat. Both parties are wholly corrupt.
We’re going the way of the Soviet Union. This is not just an economic collapse, it a social collapse as well. Our politics is bound within an ideological web of our own contradictions.

Clearly, Marist is a racist, right-wing polling outfit. The obvious answer is that the President and the Obama Democrats have not pressed hard enough on the “progressive” agenda—-apparently the American people want more bowing to foreign leaders, a definitive push for single-payer, more radicals as czars, and more appeasement of our enemies.
Either that, or Marist is just some bush-league polling shop…like kids with crayons.
Shoe
@Punchy – what do you suggest the dems do? Under Democrat Rules, they either have to get 60 or use reconciliation. And reconciliation would be spun as fascism by the villagers. It’s no win. Spine doesn’t enter into it.

A Day at The Facility: A Tale of Global Warming, and Redemption
I tell people that it snows here, but it doesn’t stick. But yesterday morning it stuck, and it was also sub-zero. This is the first time in my living memory of this kind of weather.
Worried about getting up the driveway, it was off to work forty-five minutes early. The Ford Focus successfully chugged up the driveway. Hooray.
The Focus plowed through the better part of a foot of snow along the long gravel road. And as the road turned to pavement, a burning smell. Probably the tires, spinning to use friction up that last uphill stretch. But then a battery light.
Happiness as The Facility neared, and I was within walking distance, should the need arise. Being early, there was time to go to McDonalds, and get a Sausage McGriddle. We burn a lot of calories, and it is important for Facility performance for us to eat. At the second window, the engine sputtered. Gunning made no difference. “You won’t believe this, but my car just died.”
The chick behind offered to push the Focus with her Volkswagen Beetle, and did, but only part-way. Then the guy behind her got out of his car and offered to push. He might have been hungry. Out-of-state plates. He asked if I needed a jump. “What I really need is a ride to The Facility.” Sure.
Into the car with this guy, and two females. Metallica on the music-system. These were nice people, but might have been borderline retarded. Then a good day at The Facility. Earned two ‘Work Hard and Win Prizes’ cards! But the car was still dead, and this made me sad.
It wasn’t the tires.

If you’re not fit to lead because you are batshit crazy or incapable of holding yourself upright, then you’re not fit to lead. I’m sliding back towards the “let it all fall down” stance from 2004 – if the fuckers can’t muster the wherewithal to do what they were elected to do, then out they go.
Tell you one thing – the continued polarization of the political process by insiders and outsiders, millions unemployed and uninsured, the smothering presence of corporate lobbyists and dollars on legislation and the amped up craziness of the gun-toting, freedom loving knuckledraggers spells NASTY. People who think they have nothing left to lose will do some really stupid shit just to prove it.

@Punchy:
Assuming what we’ve been hearing is true, which far from clear, we’d see the public option dropped in favor of (a) allowing people to buy into something similar to the health plan for federal employees and (b) allowing those 55 and up to buy into Medicare. So it’s different from the public option in a lot of ways, but it’s not as if nothing is being given in return.
The details obviously matter, but in my mind, this is a pretty sweet deal. Perhaps a public option open to a greater range of ages would be great, but people know and like Medicare, so you wouldn’t have to get them to like a whole new public option. And maybe, if we’re lucky, the tanks won’t start rolling through the streets when people who between 55-64 sign up for Medicare, so they’ll be more pressure to expand the program to everyone.

@BruceFromOhio: Well if you can primary the blue dogs and the primary winners can beat the goopers, then I’m all for it (and I’ve been making my contributions). If you want to hit the streets and protest, I’m all over that as well. Just don’t let me hear you say that it’s just as well we had a gooper in as these Dems, because that is patently false. I certainly think the Dems could be playing much better politics than they are, but at this point I’m still much happier having the Dems messing up than having the goopers in charge.
Brick Oven Bill
As my co-worker drove me to the social establishment after our shift, there the Focus was in the snow-bank, beside the drive-through window. We both looked at it. I again was melancholy. It sucks not having a car.
The next morning, after an evening away from home, my friend at the auto-repair-place said to jumper-cable the Focus and run it for a long time, and then get back to him with my observations. But the hood of my Focus was seized shut by the ice! I kicked the hood repeatedly with my heel, but the problem was with a frozen locking mechanism. No jumping in this condition.
The McDonalds lady was very nice and offered me free coffee refills. What this Focus needed was an internal heating device. I thought:
‘Hey, I am a heating device.’ And then sat in my Focus with a butane lighter and a cup of coffee. And after a long time, the ice on the windows started to melt. This was a result of:
1. Me (biological existence releasing body heat);
2. My butane lighter (fossil fuels);
3. My coffee refills (stored thermal energy);
4. And the rising sun (Alpha, Beta, neutron, and photon energy being absorbed by mostly dark areas of the car, exciting the atoms, creating increased friction and resulting warmth).
I learned today that a car with a four cylinder engine cannot effectively charge batteries when idling, but full charge can only be achieved at an RPM of over 2000. This takes between 20 and 60 minutes, so I was told. In any case, 45 minutes of revving was enough battery-energy to get my car to the auto-repair-place.
The whole engine compartment was stuffed with snow, which caused a belt to fail. There was thus no energy input to the fucking alternator and my Focus died at McDonalds. This is because of global warming. Tonight it is again sub-zero.
