@ Steeplejack, this morning @ 7:07 am (while I was sleeping)

Well said, thank you. You too, Arguing. [ETA on previous thread]
I’m in AL for the week, staring at a small lake and letting my mind empty. Anyone who works for themselves knows how hard it can be to let go and take off. I’ve become much better at it. :)

I accidentally saw Dancin’ Dave’s shiny new set for MTP when I turned on the TV this morning. It is rather nice. Is that a real outside view of the cars going by? Or is it green-screened?

Aren’t we supposed to be watching This Week this week?
I know the feeling. You worry that there is some sort of “momentum” that is slowing down while you are taking it easy.

@SIA: Yeah, I have to plead guilty to not watching the shows anymore. I used to come here to see what they were up to, but more and more I just don’t give a rat’s ass what ‘they’ are saying. It’s always the same ol’ same ol’.

Slightly OT in regards to the sunday talk shows:
The oil and gas leak in the Gulf to my mind is shaping up as the seminal event of this time.
I believe that aside from the very important environmental and energy considerations — the role and reputation of the private sector to cause huge problems — particularly following on the heels of the financial debacle and then this huge, yet unsolved crisis is a turning point. I believe that this is part of the reason that BP is preventing the government scientists from getting closer to the situation. They dont want government to step in and solve another failure of the private side — from bailing out GM, AIG and much of the financial sector, to THIS… I think that they are scared to death that people would never again trust them to do anything…and we have to say, while in most cases, these corporate organizations and interests have made huge messes, they have not yet cleaned anything up. The government has had to bail them out (ahem, the PEOPLE, the TAX PAYERS) have had to bail them out..
The danger that I see though, is in keeping away the best minds from this horrible situation, they may be prolonging and making it worse — and thus their own situation vis a vis public opinion and financial culpability —
Anyway, sorry for the diversion from the main thread..
I know I’m late to the party, but this morning I watched Newt Gingrich on Fox News Sunday and he was in rare form. There he was, tossing out absurd statement after absurd statement.
I’m at a loss to find the proper words for my reaction. I wasn’t disgusted, or amused, or shocked. It was more like, “Here comes goofy Newt, spinning his latest Big Idea”.
Chris Wallace seemed as if he was hiding a smirk (or something).
The highlight of the interview was when Gingrich called on Obama to withdraw Kagan as a Supreme Court nominee. I can’t find a transcript, but this from HuffPo captures the moment:
“I think the president should withdraw it,” he said. “You don’t need a lot of hearings. The very fact that she led the effort which was repudiated unanimously by the Supreme Court to block the American military from Harvard Law school — we’re in two wars …
Two wars!!!!
Also, Newt alerts us to the fact that Harvard gets money from Saudi Arabia, which is bad, bad, baaaad.
Did anybody here catch the interview?

capt
One question.
Why is there ANY kind of “CAP” on damages by oil companies?
$75 million or $10 billion – either way “we the people” are on the hook for the balance.
How is that any different from “too big to fail”
If a comapny – any company – creates damages the comapny should not be “capped” or protected.
This is “Cap and Trade” as in cap the liability and trade the balance to the people.
Just wonderin’

The folks in Houston seem to be rather outspoken this morning.

Glad that Sunday Morning replayed the Ed Bradley interview of Lena Horne.
And, yikes, I agreed with Ben Stein this morning. (Very rare that I don’t yell back at him.)

@SIA:
Thanks. Hope you have a good vacation. I have been self-employed a lot, and I know how hard it is to let go and take off.

Gosh, these Sunday morning threads are sparsely populated lately. It’s almost like nobody watches those Sunday morning snoozefests anymore.
SIA
@licensed to kill time: I’ve noticed that too the past few Sundays. Sunday open threads were always my favorite but lately they’re pretty small. Re the sunday shows, without ever deciding to, I find I rarely watch them anymore, preferring to find out through Jason Linkins the usual hijinks: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/16/tv-soundoff-sunday-talkin_n_577797.html
@Steeplejack: I used to get anxious and have trouble doing “nothing” when I tried to take off. Now, my only concern is that I’ll get stuck in “off”.
