I’ll be watching the worst 4-1 team in football.
Go Bears!
ricky
I just want to thank God for having an opportunity to watch Colt McCoy thank God for his first pro starting opportunity.

@ricky:
Seems to me Jesus is rather tough on young QB’s. Just sayin’.

hated? hard to hate them; since 1990, Steelers are 28-8.

Go! Pack! Go! :)

off topic, but quite the balanced round table panel on this week today: bush apologist matthew dowd, meghan “spawn of grandpa mcgrumpy” mc cain, the ever-incisive terry moran, and – of course – nancy reagan’s favorite lapdog george will.
i’m sure it was just because all the dems were out campaigning this weekend.
Violet
@ricky:
I just love the name Colt McCoy. Of course he was the QB for Texas. Where else with a name like that? He could also have a career on the professional rodeo circuit. Seems like every other bull rider and calf roper there is named Colt.
fucen tarmal
steelers have to beware of the dreaded trap game…
PSYCH BIG BEN IS BACK BABY!
Yutsano
@John O: Odds are you’ll be 5-1 if Matty decides to go for the suckitude today yet again.

Speaking of Colt, the only football team I’ve every really hated is the Colts, and the only other quarterback I hate more than Manning is Philip Rivers.

@John O:
every four years 02 06 10 the bears over achieve like mad..eerie huh
John O
@Yutsano:
I took the Seahawks and the points.
It’s even funnier to think the Bears will likely be at least 6-2 heading into their bye week. Their schedule is almost unfair.
Omnes Omnibus
@fucen tarmal: The Bears will crash and burn soon. Count on it.
Yutsano
@John O: I assume nothing. The Seachickens melted down to the fucking Lambs ferchristsake. They’ll be lucky to finish 8-8, and they’d STILL most likely win their division.
John O
@fucen tarmal:
The ’02 and ’06 teams were better than this one. Although this year’s defense is, as usual, good to very good. And the good news is that I haven’t seen a team yet this year that doesn’t have issues. Parity is here.
JPL
The eagles got off to a good start. Why oh why can’t the Falcons start off strong? C’mon Ryan, show those Eagles what a real QB looks like.
asiangrrlMN
Go, ‘Fins (hear me, morzer?)! Gooooo, Seachickens (hi, hon!). Then, go Vikes against the ‘boys. That’s still weird to me.
Freemark
It sucks here in York, PA. This is predominantly a Steelers area, but because we are within 90 miles of Baltimore we are forced to watch the Ravens instead of Steelers today. First they wound us by taking the Steelers game away and then ask us if we want some salt with that by putting the Ravens in their place.
JPL
OT, For the PA fans watching the game, does Sestak have a chance? I am tempted to add another 50 but I also don’t want to throw it away.
morzer
@asiangrrlMN:
Go Vikes. Yes, MEH, I hear you.
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: Hi hon. Yeah go Seachickens and all that.
Was it me or did FH #1 seem a touch moody last night?

ETA: Yum. Yum. Eddie Guns!
ETA II: Mmmm, love tea and scones.
@S. cerevisiae: Damn right!
morzer
@asiangrrlMN:
No worries, we’ve got the weapons to whip the Packers and still have time for tea and scones.
Nethead Jay
Geaux Saints, turn it around, stomp on the Bucs! Wouldn’t mind if the Eagles beat the Falcons either.
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN: Oh sure pin this all on me. :)
These are the days I almost miss having a TV. Almost.
Jewish Steel
Without a teevee, I must listen to the Bears on the radio. Almost none of my Seattle homies are Seahawk fans or indeed even aware of professional sports. So, the opportunity to gloat (gloatertunity?), should it present itself, will be wasted.

It’s nice to be appreciated.
I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that the Dolphins are the best at beating themselves. Lydon Murtha, you need to be throttled. Dan Carpenter, career high – thank you, sir!
morzer
@asiangrrlMN:
Well, we have a fine kicker, and if our special teams could get it together life would be much nicer. Still, The Beast is over 100 yards already, and if we stop beating ourselves we can finish off the Packers in the second half.
I see that the Ravens have kept Tom Brady down, so given the Patsies’ habit of second half collapse I feel confident that justice, truth and apple pie shall prevail.

John Cole – Tunch may simply have slipped into feline interspace. It’s a dimension that cats can access and humans cannot. He’ll probably reappear mysteriously in an area you had searched extensively, with an enigmatic expression and no interest in explaining. Give it a little more time, and put his favorite food out.
asiangrrlMN
WHAT? COLE! FIND TUNCHIE! I’m freaking out, too.
@morzer: Go, Ravens. And, yeah, your guys are shooting themselves in their collective feet.
Yutsano
@asiangrrlMN:
Be a shame if something happened to him…
Oh wait, that wasn’t what you meant. Never mind then, carry on.

C-SPAN2 (booktv.org) just finishing a live panel about President Obama and politics in general with Jonathan Alter, Ari Berman and William Jelani Cobb at the 2010 Texas Book Festival. Repeat at 10 p.m. west coast. Well worth a listen if you’re a Tunch minion.
Today Jonathan Alter sounds a lot like John Cole.
morzer
@asiangrrlMN:
I have to wonder what some of the Miami coaches are doing. Lydon Murtha seems to be a walking penalty machine, and either you pound the basics into his head, or you bench him. I will add that I thought Bonamego should have been canned last year.
Overall, I think we are half-way to having an elite team. Unfortunately, the other half sometimes looks like the Browns on an off-day.
Jewish Steel
@morzer:
Ah, brilliant.
I work nights and so miss the NBA games I want to see live. Are there any sites that you know of that archive games?
I’m so thrilled not to have to give Comcast any more money than I have to.
morzer
@Jewish Steel:
I don’t know about archived games, alas. I just know where to find my NFL truffles for free with my google snout. Like you, I already pay more to Comcast than their service merits. Anyone else have any ideas?

Ack, Cole. Hope he’s just lurking in the basement.
@ open thread: So it’s possible we have another cat. This little guy was hanging out in our back yard and really REALLY wanted to come in. So my daughter let him in.
He seems friendly, wants to be with people, but is filthy and we’re guessing unfixed. He also likes to grab hands and bite them, which I’m not so wild about. He’s quarantined in the basement for now. We’re going to make an appointment for him this week and see what the vet has to say. The other cats, needless to say, are freaking out.
And so another step on my journey to become crazy cat lady has been taken. Destiny, destiny, no escaping that for me.

Tunch will be back. Cats don’t get lost.

@Yutsano: I know! That’s how I read it, too, after I posted, but it’s not what I mean. I swears!
@morzer: Well, the Vikes are a clown car this year, so I’d take half-elite any day. And, the Browns’ record isn’t much worse than ours. Flag thrown! Gonna be on the ‘Fins. Correction: On Green Bay.
@debit: He’s gorgeous! As for the hands thing, have toys you can substitute for your hands and/or immediately withdraw any contact with him when he starts doing that. Welcome to your newest furry friend.
morzer
@asiangrrlMN:
DON’T DO THAT! (please!)

@John O: Cats usually never stray far from their regular tuna sources. Plus Tunch has gotten out before and come right back with no issues. So I’ll stay optimistic for now.

John, You started a panic. Try a can of tuna on the front porch.
hilzoy
Cats normally come back. Mr. Nils, my wild and rambling boy, once vanished for a couple of weeks — admittedly, after I vanished for a month (to Mozambique). (My neighbor was feeding him.) He had adopted another house, but he came home after I spent a few evenings wandering around the neighborhood meowing for him. (My neighbors knew me, so no, they did not think I had gone insane.)
That was in 1999, in California. Eleven years, two moves, and 3000 miles later, he’s still around.
Karen in GA
Now I’m going to spend all day worried about Tunch. Any gun shows in the area? Try there first. I’ve got one cat that I’m pretty sure would be building up an arsenal if I let her.
Updates, please, when you can.
asiangrrlMN
@hilzoy: Nils is so handsome! I’m glad he found his way home. And, the image of you meowing around the neighborhood for him is an endearing one.
@morzer: Eddie Guns screwed you over.
Oh, and FYWP.
Comrade Mary
I think asiangrrlMN found a glitch in the Matrix.
John, have you tried looking in all the ridiculous places, like closed cupboards or shelves he couldn’t possibly get to?
Otherwise, yes, put some tuna out on the front porch, sit there and relax in the fall air, and wait. He should be around soon.
Gatsby
Any news on Tunch?
John O
I worry that Tunch has hunted down a bird, rabbit, and/or bear by now and is sated, so the tuna might not be that interesting.
But do it anyway, John!
asiangrrlMN
@Comrade Mary: How so, Comrade Mary?
Comrade Mary
@asiangrrlMN: Comment 64 and 68 are almost identical. Hey, have you seen more than one black cat lately? :P

“Hunting down” implies successful pursuit. This is Tunch we’re talking about. Maybe a turtle.
morzer
@Scott P.:
Tunch does seem to be a nose tackle rather than a pass rusher.
morzer
@John O:
I have a wonderful vision of a bear scrambling up a tree screaming “Get’im off me!” as Tunch moves in for the kill.
asiangrrlMN
@morzer: Tunch would dispatch Rosie to take care of it. He’s more the brains of the operation.
ETA: Oh, yeah, bay-bee! Go ‘Fins!

Dan Henning just silenced a lot of critics with that play. Nice work, Mr Fasano.
Yutsano
@morzer: Wow. You REALLY don’t like Jay Cutler do you? :)
Seachickens up by 10. I await the inevitable meltdown.

Have you checked for any local gravitational anomalies?
morzer
@asiangrrlMN:
Hmmm.. I suspect Rose doesn’t climb trees. On the other hand, an airborne Tunch would be a marvel to behold…
morzer
@Yutsano:
Mmm..does anyone like Jay Cutler? And I was mostly expressing surprise that the Bears were stumbling.
Update: you see Tunch pursuing Cutler? I could see Tunch winning that match-up on speed alone.
tesslibrarian
@MMM: I actually closed my cat in the fridge once, at my mother’s house. I could hear her meow back to me when I called, but it took a good 30+ minutes to figure out where she was. Given how angry she was when I finally opened the door (she’d been telling me where she was, after all), only a couple of broken plates seemed like a small price to pay.
ETA: Hope Tunch shows up soon–keep us updated.
Yutsano
@morzer: Jay Cutler’s girlfriend, theoretically. And probably his mother. It’s kind of a short list, the rumblings I hear from Chicago fans lead me to conclude off the field he’s pretty much a tool.
And I can haz Charlie Whitehurst now plz?

@morzer:
My son read a book called “Time Cat” when he was in 2nd grade. The premise was that many cats can time-travel & frequently do, to make sure history happens correctly (or some such plot). He remains convinced (he’s 18 now) that one of our cats does the same thing–she is very mysterious. Here’s hoping Tunch is just off running his ancient Egyptian empire or something. Sending good thoughts your way.

BTW I’m hoping the Lions pull this off. It’s tough to win losing your starting QB, and no one pouts like a Manning.
asiangrrlMN
@morzer: I think he was referring to Tunch chasing a bear up a tree. At least, that’s how I read it.
@tesslibrarian: Oh, hell yeah. Thirty minutes in the fridge? You got off EASY!
@Yutsano: Given how horrible the Vikes are, I have to root for a Lions loss. Sad, but true. And, Eli, I presume? Colts play Washington tonight.

I was referring to Tunch chasing a real Bear, not Cutler.
Just for the record, I have a lot of sympathy for Jay. It’s hard to play QB from your effing back. The O-line is terrible. They don’t run the ball enough. They’re not a good football team.
Thus Seattle +6.5 with 11 confidence points. Got 13 on the Cowboys, even though I want the Vikings to win, because I really, really hate the Cowboys, all of their loser fans, and everything they stand for.
I love how the networks hide the numbers on the only game you care about late in the morning games. Clever. Evil also, too.

Basta! The old dead offense returned, and Brady pulled out another one. Phooey and double phooey. I really thought they might have finally got Flacco to stop thinking, but he still just shows flashes of excellence – too many problems still.
