What? So you want us to talk about Our Lord and Savior, only? Am I allowed to rant about GOS diarist and commenters celebrating, with glee, a drop in President Obama’s poll numbers?
Peace ya’all!

Our new overlords, ladies and gentlemen:
I’m going to start drinking now.
BGinCHI
Nice. It would be even better if they pronounced Jesus in the Hispanic first-name sort of way. Or at least more ecumenical.
Also, the van should be moving.
And could zombies chase the van? I think that could really add something.
debit
@Anya: You need to stay away from there. Seriously. I’ve been happier since I decided to deny GOS my clicks.

I thought you were talking about this song (in honor of the holidays)
Omnes Omnibus
@BGinCHI: It would certainly add zombies.
Suffern ACE
@TooManyJens: I think we should call a commission and have them look into the matter.

Is this something I need to watch? I saw the website and I am afraid . . .

@Anya: Rant away. Myself, I’m so over Dk. The split wasn’t nearly as tough as I imagined; it’s easier when the breakupee’s disgusting qualities completely overwhelm even it’s very best.

Blizzard moving thru Minnesota today. There’s a foot of snow on the ground in the Twin Cities now and it’s supposed to get heavier, windier and colder this afternoon. Looks like we’ll have almost two feet of snow before it ends. Ugh.
That video is just sad on every level.
Omnes Omnibus
@TooManyJens: He got into, and graduated from, med school?
Bnut
@BGinCHI: Zombies always add something. I’m picturing Bogey being run out of Morocco by an undead horde. Atlanta’s burning bringing forth a river of brain munchers to face those damn Yankees. Bill and Ted AND Zombies. Modern cinema rocks my face off.

@gbear:
Good to know what to look forward to down here in the land of lincoln. stay warm.

Speaking of kidfucking, Charles Blow has an interesting chart about that in his column today.
Chant with me know! “USA! USA! USA! We’re #1!”
And now explain to me why we are borrowing over $500 per capita per year for the next two years to continue giving tax cuts directly to the richest 2% in our country, while at the same time raising taxes on couples earning under 40K/year and individuals earning under 20K.
That Obama. He sure is a shrewd negotiator.

harlana – yes, watch it, awesome tune, the message could be serious, it could be tongue-in-cheek or ironic but either way it’s well done – also check out their webpage for more cool music.
I do some of my best praying when I’ve had a few drinks. Seriously. There’s an easy connection between drinking alone and thinking about the dude from Galilee who made wedding guests happy by turning water into wine. If Jesus comes back to Portland, he’ll turn water into a hoppy IPA.
Also tired of the GOS.
Also, too, I didn’t realize mistermix was part of the Monroe County Mafia that controls a corner of this blog.

@arguingwithsignposts: I thought we were just getting the cold. Shit.
Is winter almost over?
BGinCHI
@WyldPirate: Man, that’s damning as hell.
No sense blaming Obama; it’s much bigger than that. This is a trend that’s just now coming to bloom, as we have NOT been investing in our infrastructure materially and culturally.
Just take a look at the cost of a public university education now as compared to when Reagan came into office (that’s when this really got started). It ain’t because costs have risen at that rate but because state funding has dried up. People pay taxes, often at too low rates, and this does NOT get prioritized for education and other long term goods.
There are causes for this.

Some new crime stats today from here in the crime capital of the Mexican-overrun capital of illegal immigration.
Thank heavens that Sheriff Joe and Johnny “DeadEye” McCain are cleaning up that crime wave that is coming across the border!

@WyldPirate:
If you want a better congress, you need to elect one. Yelling at the White House is what the hillbillies do every time something pisses them off. It’s not really helpful.
All tax measures originate in congress. It’s the big building up on the hill.

Obama’s approval rating slips to 42% in a new McClatchy-Marist poll conducted from Dec 2-8.
And this seems significant–particularly in light of the fact that the poll isn’t totally conducted after the announcement of the “deal with the Rethugs”.
Shouldn’t come as a surprise when you shit on your base….and your own supposed “principals”
BGinCHI
@Maody: OK, that’s funny and very, very annoying. Getting the stink eye from the Mrs.

@DickSpudCouchPotatoDetective:
Well look in post %27 and see what happens when the fucking White House shits on it’s base, Mr. Potato Head.

You are single-handedly ruining this blog, something Brick Oven Bill didn’t come close to accomplishing.
Mnemosyne
@BGinCHI:
That was also the start of the adversarial relationship between the generations, when Reagan’s generation basically said, “You damn kids don’t appreciate everything we’ve done for you, so we’re taking our tax money and going home.”
Plus, of course, it was when minorities and women started being admitted on an equal basis instead of being held to quotas, so people also decided they didn’t want to pay for Them to go to college if it meant their precious little snowflake couldn’t get in.
Mary Jane
@WyldPirate: Bet you craved a smoke after reading that.
Obama’s much too old to shit on his principals.
Anya
@debit: @Mary Jane: I was good for a while then curiosity got the better of me (and possibly self punishment) and what do I see, a recommended diarist routing a poll with a Republican bias of 4.0 in the last election. They are positively giddy that Romney is beating Obama. I really think these people are not Democrats, they are remnant from Rush Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” or GOP operatives. They cannot be progressives and actively working to defeat a Democratic President, at a time when Congress is getting more wingnutty. But you are right, I will put them in the same category as Huffington Post. I can deal with BJ fluctuating between manic and depressive stages.
Citizen_X
@WyldPirate: Holy crap, that’s depressing.
Seems our only competitor in Overall Suckitude is Italy. Apparently, it’s not a good idea to have your country led by a corrupt media mogul with fascist ties. Who knew?
But I’m happy to note that the French are actually ranked as dumber (‘cept fer that Jesus-hatin’ science stuff) and lazier than us. SUCK IT, FROGS! U.S.A. #1! Er, well, #16 in vigorous physical activity.
Mnemosyne
@arguingwithsignposts:
That’s what I immediately thought of, too. Fred Clark featured that on Slacktivist a few years ago and it’s become one of my favorites, with only “Fairytale of New York” (Pogues version only, please) and “Sometimes You Have to Work on Christmas (Sometimes)” by Harvey Danger surpassing it.
Bill H.
@Bnut:
You are my kind of guy. She is indeed.
Anya
@WyldPirate: Did you smoke a cigarette after you read that?
WyldPirate
@BGinCHI:
Yeah, I know it’s damning, BGinCHI. I know it is not all of Obama’s fault and I know that it started with Reagan, if not before.
What we have is a dumbass problem. We have a nation of dumbasses that want a bunch of services but don’t want to pay for them. They bought the Reagan lie of the “trickle down” free lunch. That lie goes along perfectly with the Norquist goal of drowning the government in a bathtub and the screams from the Reich wing of the past 30 years that government is incompetent and that the private sector is better at doing everything better than the government can.
I think we are beyond hope now. I think it is going everything is going to have to crash before something else can rebuilt. the US is like an old abandoned barn that is falling apart and collapsing because of neglect.

@Citizen_X: One of the big problems with these charts is that the schools in well-off town and suburbs are actually competitive with any schools in the world, but we have a shitload of poor schools that rival the worst of any in the world. If you grew up in, and now live in, one of the lucky communities, you don’t see a problem. Kids are winning National Merit Scholarships and getting into selective colleges, so everything must be fine. If you live in the other communities, you are more or less screwed.

@Mark S.: My god, one could disassemble that word by word. The paragraph is a lie. Each sentence is a lie. Each phrase is a lie. Each word, if not actually a lie itself, is used in the service of lies. Plus, it is fatuous and superficial, and those are its best qualities.

And yet the right wants to move in the other direction.

WyldPirate
@gogol’s wife: Excuse me, but that is just fucking stupid saying I think it is “good news”. It is what I expected after Obama shitting on his base, showing such piss-poor leadership on the issue and cutting a deal with the Rethugs that not only gives them political advantage, but arguably makes many of the less well off workers in the country pay more taxes.
Moreover, I wish we had a President that showed half the passion and organization battling the opposition party–instead of huffing their dicks–than he has shown dissing and battling with his own party in the past week.
And I say this all as a person that will come out much worse off if parts of this shitty deal don’t get passed. I have a big stake in it.
Citizen_X
@Omnes Omnibus: Yes, and that disparity is all due to our cockamamie way of funding schools through local property taxes. I know there’s no changing that, because it’s set out in the Tenth Amendment of the Bible or something. But, because income so strongly correlates with education level, the fairest way to fund education–and still maintain our holy local control–would be through state income taxes.
Please don’t laugh at my unicorn.

Give it time, I think it will. I imagine that Barry and Bill had a nice long conversation about that triangulation thingy yesterday.
I’m not so much mad that the deal was made. I’m more pissed that it was made without doing anything else. And yes, Obama shares blame for that decision.
SectarianSofa
@WyldPirate:
Oh, yes, plenty of blame to go around. I just think it’s an artifact of cognitive machinery that we’re able to pin things so absolutely, here and now, on certain actors. As you said upstream, this shit has been building since at least Reagan. Anyway, all kinds of cognitive bias at work that makes me distrust easy conclusions. Ubiquitous fucking Jonah Lehrer could help me out on this one, since I’m rusty on the psych-speak.
