The Fox reporter handles himself well too. It’s a shame his employer refused to run this clip.

That man is Jesse LeGreca aka Ministry of Truth on Daily Kos. He sometimes comments here doesn’t he?

First trick to sound biting: keep talking, breath on commas, forget periods. Second trick: keep it upbeat. Third trick: use any question as a suggestion for an opening rhetorical gambit, then strike off on your own.
Classic stuff.
Fox Pwned.
slag
It’s true. Sometimes keeping your mouth shut is a good way to handle yourself.
On the other hand, a commenter at Benen’s digs said that Jesse, the talker, was or is homeless. Maybe he needs that Faux guy’s job.
stibbert
go Jesse! He was just amazingly articulate.
while both he & the reporter kept it civil, you can see the passion, anger & commitment flashing through in Jesse’s facial expressions.
Tyro
That’s Jesse LeGreca? You know, he’s more charismatic and on point in person than he is as a writer/diarist at DKos. I like him more after seeing this.
Shinobi
He’s cute too, someone put him on my TV so he can say smart things and I can admire him. Maybe a nice follow up to the Rachel Maddow show.
Violet
That was awesome.
@Tyro: Agreed. I’ve read some of his stuff but had no idea he could communicate like this. On camera, on message is his strong suit.

We ALL need to cross the “Brooklyn Bridge” & REALLY take back the America we grew up believing in for our children & grandchildren–or it will NEVER exist.
Yeah, I used to be a stockbroker when I could do something useful. . .

@Shinobi: He’s cute and has a bit of a New York accent that keeps it real.
Wannabe Speechwriter
He was wearing the hat of a union solider. Wonder if that was intentional (ie the other side is the Confederates).
Fluffy
@Shinobi:
I don’t know if “cute”is the first term that comes to my mind…. unless you mean “cute like an Ugly Doll”. He looks like Puglee, in a Union soldier hat.
But he’s an actual regular guy, not some aging faker who’s been living on media gravy for the past 30 years like Hank Williams Jr. That’s a helluva lot better than cute.
You know the biggest difference between him and most of white guys with his accent who get on TV a lot — he’s about 25 years younger than they are. And he doesn’t have all the goodies they do.
Shinobi
@Fluffy: People have different taste sometimes. (Especially when looking at “normal” people as opposed to people carefully selected to appeal to our reproductive instincts.)
I think he’s cute, you are free to disagree. (Less competition! heh)
slag
@Shinobi: He is cute in his union outfit and all. Dan Savage called him the left’s Joe the Plumber. That’s actually not a bad comparison.
Oddly enough, though, I don’t expect Barack Obama to drag the guy around on the campaign trail. I think that’s a good thing. But I also recognize that the left has precious few [institutional] boosters of young talent. I think that’s a bad thing.
hhex65
@Wannabe Speechwriter: it works for me. I might want to go dig one of those hats out myself, that is pretty much where we’re at.

Like I mentioned in another thread earlier today, what slays me most about this is that the mope with the mic tries to defend Fox by saying that here he is, giving the guy a chance to have his say and be heard, would a real propaganda outlet do anything so magnanimous, blah blah. But when it comes to actually airing the interview, which would mean letting this guy, you know, actually be heard, well… ::crickets::
Cat
This maybe too militant, but a union cap with a patch with “99” on it could turn into a powerful symbol.

I’m thinking someone needs to paint a Union flag on the roof of a blue Dodge Charger, fill the doors with cement and call it the General Grant.

@J. Michael Neal:
And by the Union flag, you mean… oh, right. The flag of these United States of America.
Because we WON, bitches! Suck on that!

He’s 24 years old (I think), unemployed but not homeless, he’s written a book, and he’s brilliant. I’m crossing my fingers that he finds paid employment thanks to this video. He’s done stellar work reporting the events of OccupyWallStreet for Daily Kos … and last time he had no food in his apartment, he was OK with people buying his book via Paypal. To learn more about Jesse, see this: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/09/12/1016187/-Buy-This-Book-s-not-mine,-its-MOTs)

OT: is anyone else seeing these “… and I’m a Mormon” commercials all the sudden? I guess Citizens United obviates any questions about “contributions in kind” , I think was the term, to the Romney campaign

the Fox reporter is Griff Jenkins.

Dylan Ratigan REALLY outdid himself in the second half of his stay with OWS. Look at this video. : http://monkeyfister.blogspot.com/2011/10/dylan-ratigan-speaks-to-occupy-wall.html
This statement of his is pure and beautiful.
Really.

It took me ages to find a good paypal link for him so in case anyone else needs it, here it is.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
I’ve seen them for a couple of years now. An article in Salon I’m too tired to go find suggested that the campaign is trying to normalize Romney.
They’d do better to send cases of Polygamy Porter to every house in America.
Yutsano
@suzanne: Oh yeah he’s cute. A little beef and a lotta brains is right up my alley.
EDIT: Just had my first taste of Laphroaig tonight. Holy fuck that shit is good.
MikeJ
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
LDS has paid for ads for decades.
suzanne
@MikeJ: This is a relatively new campaign for them, though, and is much further-reaching. Also represents a change in tone; the LDS used to be cool with being thought of as a little bit “peculiar” and “set apart”. Now they want to be mainstream and get pissed if you suggest they aren’t Christians.

@Yutsano:
Anyone else seeing Peter Sarsgaard with 20 or 30 extra pounds?
Comrade Kevin
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: They really started gearing up with Prop 8 in California.
Yutsano
@suzanne: They want to be legit. They need to expand their power and social base outside of the western desert. They would be completely satisfied with a Mormon theocracy in the US. Plus the LDS church is one of the biggest business rackets this side of the Vatican.
@Mnemosyne: Sarsgaard at a healthy weight? What? :)
Porlock Junior
@Yutsano:
Speaking of Laphroaig — A few years ago an old friend died after a long period of dealing with Parkinson’s. His family were no less unconventional than he was, and there were some odd politics going on, and so there was no memorial service or anything. Therefore, several of us old friends and colleagues got together at my place for a wake, of sorts.
Two of his favorite things were Laphroaig and Lapsang Souchong tea — a common thread there, no? So in preparation for this, I got some Laphroaig — hadn’t had it in years, my booze consumption being very limited. And at the event, along with the tea, we drank a toast, those who wanted to. I was surprised, after all that time, at just how very good it is, and I remarked on that. At which, a woman I’ve known for a long time looked at me quzzically and asked, “In just what sense are you using the word ‘good'”?
Chacun à son gout, as Flanders and Swan said, pronouncing it as I’ve written it, the last word being in English.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@MikeJ: @suzanne: Now that you mention it, I remember those ads (guy on a bike helps jeep that sprayed him with mud), but I agree with Suzanne, these seem different. More directly aimed at “normazling” LDS, almost every one insisting on “I believe in God”
aisce
here’s how you know you’ve become too assimilated by internet speak and have forgotten how people talk in real life: you find it disappointing that a network wouldn’t run a man-on-the-street bit with the phrase, “you know, that jesus stuff” in it.
Petorado
We can all see why FOX wouldn’t air this the segment with Jesse, but neither would any of the other news outlets if they had the opportunity. Even NPR, pushing so hard on the meme that the protesters have demands so all over the place that they are incoherent on their substantive message, would have to discount a spokesperson who can eloquently encapsulate a pretty obvious movement.
Not only must the media treat their viewers as idiots, the people on the other side of the lens have to act like them too. I keeps the game rolling along that way.

haven’t been there m’self since an early-90’s screening of V. Redgrave’s ‘Palestinians’ documentary. which was an awful film, tho’ it fit my head at the time (ref to The Little Drummer Girl by LeCarré).
hope to be there m’self, but don’t know how i can help. been paging thru tumblr http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/ & need to stand up for those folks (& for myself).

Polygamy Porter is good stuff, I bought some on my last trip to Zion NP.
And possibly evidence that Mormons aren’t quite as humorless as Southern Baptists.

I hit it for a few.

@Yutsano: Welcome to the club.

@Yutsano:
Oh yes. But rather than align themselves with the Democrats, who actually elect them to high offices like Senate Majority Leader, they suck up the the biggest bullies on the playground, a.k.a. try to make common cause with the Talibangelicals.
Oh good LORD yes. A quote in in the SLC paper of record regarding their condo tower straight-up said they wanted to “Vaticanize” Salt Lake City. When they amass the greatest art collection in the world and open the Temple up to EVERYONE, I might be able to get behind that idea. Until then, I’m going to just going to continue assuming that the leadership of the LDS is fucked.
Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason
@Yutsano: Plus the LDS church fucked up the Boy Scouts of America, of which I was a proud member. Bastards.
Yutsano
@ABL: I’m gonna kick him for this. Well not really. He is bigger than me. :)
@suzanne:
Theological acceptance is just as if not more important than temporal power. They don’t just want to be called Christians. They want YOU to believe it. Then they can continue to pursue the cult of Mammon with impunity.

@harlana:
Uh, no. If that dude was a Firebagger, he would have told the reporter that Obama sucks, has accomplished nothing and what we really need is a primary challenger from the left.
He sounded far too reasonable to belong to a purity cult.

Agreed. Times two.

Brilliant. He handled that like a pro. (Somebody replace Obama with him please? How old is he anyway? 45?)

There should be a standard response to people carrying Fox Noise microphones at these things. Something like “go f*** yourself,” but more TV friendly. These people never learn – the Fox people are only there to troll them.

I like anyone schooling Fox, but DKos has been guilty of gatekeeping and controlling the narrative for so long that I trust them about as far as I can throw them.

Man, that clip was like a glass of tart lemonade on a hot day. It’s about time that someone cuts the crap and finally says what’s going on. I really hope that it’s the start of America finally standing up to the uber-rich and saying, “You know what? You’ve had quite enough of the pie. Time to share.”
