Go extra French with it too!

Am I the only one who’s getting the other/mobile/archived/whatever version when I click on comments in the other posts?

Thai food. I love it but probably not the best theme.
Root vegetables and vodka?
Nicole
@Linnaeus: Nope. Me too.
Oh, and pizza and beer. An Eat Like We’re Still in College dinner party.

I don’t think Breitbart will be able to make it, he has other commitments.

I think you should go with some quintessential ’50s dishes. Things like spaghetti pie, for instance. Should be easy to research as there are tons of ’50s cookbooks you could find. Or just pick up a vintage copy of The Joy of Cooking and make anything you want to from it.
Oh, and I’m free Saturday night since John will still be in the hospital. So, I think I can make it to your little soiree, Cole. Though I’d probably need to stay in your guest room if reports of the alcholic intake at your typical Cole party are true. It’s not that far to get there, but it’s a long way home after a Cole blowout.

By “have everyone over”, I assume you meant to include everyone here. I’ll be over at 7pm with a box full of Twinkies.

@geg6:
I would be disappointed if it were any other way.

Me and the fiance had a great party a few months ago themed around different grilled cheese sandwiches and bloody marys. We had a Foreman grill for ours, but a press would work fine too. It was fun having everyone come in to pick between different cheeses & breads, dessert or savory. And booze!

There are few things in this world better than a good Bloody Mary.

West Virginia isn’t that far from me if you cook that cabbage thing you described the other day. (I do hope you’re in that bit of WV I drive through between MD and VA. If you’re over on the other side of all the mountains—)

@Arm The Homeless: God that sounds great. I haven’t had a good grilled cheese in years. I had a good friend who would cook up a dozen for me and his kids and we’d watch Alejandro Jodorowsky movies. Nothing like melted cheese and exploding bishop toads.
Anyway, it’s been grey in old CT these last few days, so I’d go with Mexican. Lively, bright, and tasty.

In honor of birthers, have an Arpaio party. MexiKenyan cuisine.

For many years during winter (usually February) a friend hosted a “winter white food” party. Scandanavia dishes–swedish meatballs in white sauce, white cheeses, white pickled herring on pale swedish crackers, yes lutefisk (I never ate it), other assorted white sauce covered foods. The only bow to color was the smoked wild-caught salmon. Yum.

@Nicole: That sounds like fun. Maybe play some quarters, asshole, etc? Jam on some early 90’s music?

@Linnaeus:
I’ve been having that problem on and off for the last two days. It seems to get fixed if you leave a comment, so I’ve left a few “test” comments in various posts today.

@Linnaeus: I only get it on my android. On my desktop it’s ok.

What about “Pork and lots of it”? My personal favorite.

Sounds like a Russian theme to me!

I love a winter luau. Which I guess puts me in the pork contingent.

Game of Thrones (Song of Fire & Ice) themed party.
In keeping with the books, it’ll be a party to die for.

@Mark S.: @MikeJ:
thanks…I think I’ve got it “fixed” for now.

Well, according to the Yahoo thing, today was National Pig Day and I bet you didn’t get anyone anything. So you could celebrate that. Although you are watching what you eat.
It was also March first, which is traditionally the day we look at the weather and compare it to lions and lambs. Depending on what the whether was like where you were, you could serve either of those items. I’m hoping it was a calm day.

@Arm The Homeless: That is inspired. Here’s my contribution: Inside Out Grilled Cheese
My suggestion would be Mexican, because I’m in a jalapeno kind of mood.

Fair warning. I was at best between the words “theme” and “should be” when I was at “Donner Party” and regretting I wasn’t near the people that would both attend and properly know how to populate the event.

I hope we’re starting fairly late because it’s going to be tough for me to make an early hour…

@TaMara (BHF): My new cast-iron has been getting a workout this past week. I will save this recipe. Thanks!
I am still trying to find low calorie, veggie-friendly cast-iron recipes. I am really contemplating synthesizing a lasagne in there, but I am afraid of trying it with only a couple weeks of seasoning on it.
David Koch
what theme?
Everyone should dress like Elvis.

@Punchy: what makes you say, complete out of the blue, is she on tee veee right now?
Emdee
“Welcome to the Big 12” theme. Black-eyed pea salad (Oklahoma), beef or chili (Texas), homemade bread or pasta (Kansas wheat), corn (Iowa), and whatever it is you folks normally eat around WV. I’m guessing coal garnished with sadness.
Arm The Homeless
@Linnaeus: It sounds so goo actually. Since its going to be 80 here this week I might have to mix a pitcher up.
Billy Beane
Am I invited? I could be there. Can’t imagine why I wouldn’t be welcome.

I love a good bloody mary, but I can’t seem to make a good one myself. Any recipes out there?

shellfish(for the mercury) and mind erasers(vodka kahlua. shnapps and tonic optional )
have a mental damage party. also, too. you can fit in a theme of war on women who are or might become pregnant, sort of a flanking manuver.
TheMightyTrowel
Vietnamese lemongrass chicken:
marinate pounded flat chicken breasts or boneless thighs with:
-lots of finely chopped lemongrass, garlic and chili, some fish sauce and a bit of ground nut oil
-overnight in the fridge then 10 min on the grill or under the broiler.
Serve with a cold noodle, herb (mint, coriander, parsley) and raw chili salad
Violet
Caribbean theme. Jerk chicken, beans and rice, plantains, coconut and of course plenty of rum drinks. Any number of reggae or island music options. Perfect antidote to the winter blues.

@Marcellus Shale, Public Dick: Like it. Maybe work in some Free Radical elements?

Have what we had tonight. Seared Tuna, brown rice, steamed bok choi. Bib lettuce salad with blue cheese dressing.

I’ve had a lot of success with Mexican themed dinner parties. The food is pretty great but even if it is not, I make a great Margarita. The secret is fresh lime and a splash of sangria. After one of those parties, I woke up on a picnic table, four houses over. Good times.
Also, from #51, a bloody mary recipe: tomato juice, dash of celery salt, splash of Worcestershire sauce, dash of hot sauce(try different ones to taste), a splash of beer, and vodka(not too much, half of what you would use for a normal drink. leaves a bitter taste if too much). Shake with some ice, strain into a pint, garnish like crazy. I go with a pickle, olives, a hunk of pepper jack cheese and a beef stick. WI style!

Roman Orgy. Every food suggestion listed above, in mass quantities. Place vomitoriums in the mud room and on the back porch. Hire neighborhood kids to videotape it.

@Punchy: Of course.

Don’t have a recipe, but know a friend who swears the key is using Absolut Peppar vodka.

I’d have a Goodbye to Winter theme (use up those root veggies). Work around a Beef Bourguignon.

@Nicole:
I was actually going to suggest pizza. Though ideally you would make the dough a couple of days ahead of time for best flavor (Peter Reinhart is the recipe I use). Pick a bunch of varieties… gourmet or not… prep everything you can ahead of time… and then you just make pizzas and munch on them and eat with your guests. Never even really have to sit down at the table if you don’t want.
Everybody ends up in the kitchen anyway, and it’s a topping a pizza is something anybody can be involved in.

Pick a country. Then everyone does something from that country. It’s a great way to branch out.

Hell party. Everyone has to dress as someone that the right claims is going to hell.
Totally “sampled” that from a friend, but she won’t mind.

Just as long as you keep your hands off her junk.
On the other hand, I had no idea she was a he, what a disappointment. Or is that not what you meant by her “junk”?

Well, you could celebrate Carlo Ponzi’s birthday (March 3, 1882). You could start by asking a few people to ask a few people to bring potluck dishes.

Favorite appetizers/hors d’ oeuvres/tapas (potluck)… that, combined with spirits is a great dinner/party. Can mix potsticker to pigs in a blanket; spring rolls to proscuitto wrapped melon; potato skins to garlic bread… mix it up. It is like dessert – sometimes the appetizers are more preferred than the meal!
