Yeah. I’ve been posting that all over twitter (@psddluva4evah) and on my FB, just cause I thought it was awesome too.
Just can’t imagine Ms Ann doing the same thing (too many…ya know kinda dudes).

Fantastic. It’s a shame she hasn’t had the opportunity to insult her hosts, though — just another example of the Obamas dropping the ball in foreign policy, I guess.

Notice that the First Lady also takes time to introduce all the players and coaches to the Paralympian sitting next to her.

Awesomesauce Michelle.

Barbara Bush was present, too, and was quoted as saying: “Well, you know, a lot of these people were underprivileged before and so this is working out well for them.”
She then strangled several kittens and puppies before farting acid and departing.

That’s nice. I like that.
I do wish I could get more into the Olympics this year. Ever since the horrors of the last 12 years my ability to care one way or the other for the victory of an athlete just because they are from the U.S. has been severely diminished, and the entire Olympics as a marketing/athletic industrial complex/shiny object just puts me off.
That said, when I do watch I tend to find myself rooting for the athlete whose back story and potential most appeals to me, regardless of where they are from.
This loss of a team/fan connection bothered me at first in the early 2000s but by now I’ve come to like it.
I had to laugh cause these dudes are like million-dollar babies getting a hug from mom. Plus even Coach K gets in on the hugging action (and he’s a Republican right?)
Seeing some of the most famous athletes in the world line up for embraces with Mrs. Obama, dressed casually in a grey sweater, was a surreal sight. There were kisses of cheeks, and little-kid smiles from superstars. It was almost as if she was the mother of a son’s little-league team, ready to give all of the players frozen treats after a game.
With that in mind, all of Canada is now expecting Laureen Harper to be in the crowd when the Canadian women’s basketball team takes on Great Britain on Monday.
@Spatula: I do the same things. Soon as they tell me that some gymnast is the only one from their country or that this kid broke both legs, torn ACL, tumor in his leg at 10 years old and all the bake sales back in Ireland it took for this kid to get to Olympics and all I want to do is see this kid tear shit up.
“Michelle Obama hugs U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team, as the world swoons”
As the world swoons – the sort of headline Romney had been hoping for when he went overseas, but that sorta coverage can’t be bought, it has to be earned.

I’m a basketball junkie. I watched the women yesterday & the men today. Loved the hugs!! Need I say I also love the Obamas?
14.
Chyron HR
Oh, Michelle, don’t you trust that LeBron. He’ll probably defect to the Swedish team in the middle of the Olympics.
15.

I don’t know what was wrong about that yet, but I’m sure Fox News or some Breitbrat will soon explain why MICHELLE OBAMA’S BEHAVIOUR WAS AN OUTRAGE!!1!

@JoyceH: Can you see Romney in this scene?. Never mind making the shot, can you see Romney even trying?

@lamh35: He wasn’t exactly an underdog, but as a cycling fan I was happy to see Alexandre Vinokourow from Kazakhstan win the gold in the men’s road race yesterday. For all his faults, he’s been through a lot and IMO deserved to go out on a high note.

Craig Robinson, Michele Obama’s brother, is the head coach of the Oregon State basketball team. NBC might have seen fit to maybe mention that.
I love this. Michelle Obama is indeed the best First Hugger ever.
A couple of friends won an award for something or other and MO was the award presenter. Before my friends went up for the award, they were coached to stop, smile, shake the first lady’s hand, and move on. But as soon as they got up to her, they got wrapped in a big ol’ hug. It was very sweet, and they couldn’t stop talking about what a great hugger MO is. The award seemed secondary to the hug.
@lamh35: Oh man, I was so pulling for him. I have to say, though, that Jon Orozco is my favorite male American athlete right now. How can you not love the gymnast from the Bronx?
This is really lovely. And although Michelle bears no resemblance to Gru, and the players bear no resemblance to the Minions, this reminds me of the sweet scene at the end of Despicable Me where the Minions line up for hugs from Gru.
@Darkrose: yep between Orozco and the kid from Cuba (although his step-dad is a bit obnoxious) on the Men’s side. I’m also rooting for Gabby “The Flying Squirrel” Douglas on the Women’s side.
I have loved the video and pics ever since I first saw the link.

So awesome.
This is the kind of thing I actually love about the Olympics. Our boys played a good game, were gracious, and the Brits seemed to adore them.
Dig all the big smiles from the fellas. And even Coach K. lingered in there.
You have to be a fucking asshole to not love the First Lady. The contrast between her behavior with Team USA and Willard’s dip-shittery could not be more pronounced.

@efgoldman: Re-port-ing? I’m afraid NBC is not familiar with that term, you adorable little ragamuffin.
He’s a West Point grad. He’ll show appropriate respect for Mrs. Commander-in-Chief even if he doesn’t think very much of the Commander-in-Chief’s politics.
Betweeen Michelle O. and Justice Sotomayor, minority women at Princeton have some pretty damn awesome role models.

That is an awesome video. Michelle Obama is a great FLOTUS. She very much reminds me of when JFK and Jackie went to France and he said he was the man who was with Jackie. Style, grace, and human connections up the wazoo. (Note MO is much warmer than Jackie was, but she’s the first First Lady I was really aware of.)

Heh. I liked how the coaches sheepishly lined up with their arms crossed, like, “It’s not that I want a hug from the First Lady, but if she insists …”
It’s okay, fellas. You can admit you wanted your hug.

Reggie Love got him to like the Obamas. Enough that he said he was voting for him back in 2008.
