We are at triple Rock at a table in the back. No balloons yet but my description of myself is said to be accurate –brown pants, light blue sportscoat, I look like Patrick Kennedy.

Well, we all need to vote on that. Start posting photos at once!

Are you being pulled over?

Can’t find a YouTube of the scene, but there’s an old Adventures of Superman episode where some imposter grumbles to himself, over and over: ” I look like Superman, I don’t sound like Superman….”
Picturing DougJ sitting at a table in the back room muttering to himself, “I look like Kennedy, I don’t sound like Kennedy….”

How many folks are there?

I was just wondering how the meet-up was going… and poof, there is a posting on it. Have fun everybody.

Well, you all have fun. I’ll just stay here in hot (114 today) Oklahoma and play with my new toy.

Jealous.

I’m still holding out for a 650/415 meetup Friday. Or hell, 408 too. Anyone (*pokes DougJ*) up for that?
Amanda in the South Bay
What the fuck does Patrick Kennedy look like?
ETA: which of the Kennedys is he?
gbear
Did you all smile on your brother and try and love one another right now?

@Amanda in the South Bay: If it’s Patrick J. Kennedy II it’s this guy here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_J._Kennedy
He’s Ted Kennedy’s son and was a member of the House for Rhode Island.

@Amanda in the South Bay:
He’s Teddy’s son, and looks about how you’d expect Teddy’s son to look.

@Jim: I always thought he looked like Joan. Teddy Jr. looks like Ted.

Patrick Kennedy gave the keynote at the Ohio NAMI conference this year. Very dynamic speaker.
Oh, and have fun at the meetup.

@a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q): I find myself pulling for his continued sobriety. Two alcoholic parents (and plenty of other addicts scattered over both sides of the family) is a tough DNA mix.

Totally nailed the most inappropriate joke of the thread.

Any chance of a meet-up on Friday? I can get to the East Bay then or if there it’s going to be in the City proper- all the better. :-)

It was great meeting Doug J. and all the other folks. While I was there we had diverse conversations (but not much politics!) and a selection of beers. Unfortunately my aging ears made it hard for me to hear above the din and my sedate middle-aged married lifestyle led me home early. I hope everyone else is continuing to have a great time.

Damnit!
I can picture that. You must be close to the stairs to the roof, which is awesome but often smells of rat piss. You’re one day off from Monkey-Head night, meaning you’re luckily missing the deluge of grad students.
The burgers can be awesome yet the two worst burger fails I’ve ever had occurred there. My favorite brew is the Kaiser Soze (seasonal, who knows if they have it now…)
I miss Berkeley, damnit. Stupid DC swamp weather is killing me.

oh, i was so close, at a reunion of sorts in the mission tonight, but gravity pulled me down the peninsula. would love to meet some of the locals sometime.
The prophet Nostradumbass
Photos? Or have the people at this get-together done the same thing the people at the NN one last year did?
max
@The prophet Nostradumbass: it was a little dark for photos, and a flash would have seemed awkward.
i did almost pull out the camera for the lady who exited the facilities with a streamer of tp attached to her shoe.
i guess i aim for the lowbrow in photography, in contrast to the great conversation that was shared.
Politically Lost
I just got safely back from my time at the meet up. DougJ is not nearly as snarky in person… It was good to meet up with some juicers and just talk.
Sean
That was a lot of fun you guys. I actually enjoyed sitting at the kid’s table!

@imbrium:
DC weather is killing me too. Fortunately, I fly home to the Bay Area tonight.
Sorry I missed out on the fun – still hoping for a Friday meetup.

Did not make last night’s expo. Is there a possibility of Friday? Friday is better as I don’t have to work Saturday.

Creeping out from under my rock to say it was great meeting everybody last night and I hope we can do it all again.
Balloon Juice Bay Area Book Club? Anyone? I’d be happy to organize if you guys are interested.

Big thanks to everyone who showed up! I had a great time meeting y’all.
Our waitress complimented the expedience and simplicity with which we paid our bill :) My reply was something along the lines of “yeah, we’re nerds”.
A special shout out to Lisa who represented with her custom-made Tunch button. Furminators forever!
And I still thing DougJ looks like a young Cigarette Smoking Man from the X Files.
I intend to obtain a Tunch mug or bottle and submit pictures for your approval as it tours Black Rock City this year.
Mags, I am down for a BJBABC, though I probably won’t be able to participate until after 9/9/2012. What was the book that brought up the suggestion last night? Twilight of the Elites?
Mags
Lots of great ideas for BJBABC:
Twilight of the Elites
It’s Even Worse than it Looks
The Grapes of Wrath
I think we can put together a good mix of fiction and non-fiction that will be universally appreciated within our little ~echo chamber~ :-)
