Okay, on the uh, new server. Feels like the old server? Maybe b/c it’s Sunday and traffic is low?
BTW, Cole. What’s the hardware on your new gaming PC?

Seems fast enough, but to be honest I’ve never really noticed much lag on the old hardware that couldn’t be attributed to extra-server (i.e. general network) causes. My guess is that the real test will come when we have another presidential debate crunchapalooza.
And now I’m going to hit “Submit Comment” and see just how long it takes to post this comment…
5 seconds. Not bad. And the “Click to Edit” delay was only 2 seconds. OK, seems faster than the old hardware.
7.
BillinGlendaleCA
@dewzke: At least the complaints will show up faster now.
ETA: The entire site shows up much faster, thanks a bunch for all the hard work on it.
8.
The Dangerman
Very speedy (imagine it being something like Tunch going to the food bowl now that there’s other feline mouths to feed).
ETA: Seems pretty good. Posted quickly and the edit box came up quickly.

Haven’t noticed much change, but my browser has a bunch of open tabs and is probably the thing slowing things down. So far no FYWP, but I haven’t posted much.

What we need is a real test of server traffic. If we could pay Glenn Greenwald to tweet that Jane Hamshear told him that Obama is going to pardon Jerry Sandusky so that Donald Rumsfeld can award him the world peace prize at a Steelers game this fall, do you think that might get enough activity?
16.
FlipYrWhig
@Suffern ACE: is there a way to work Andrew Sullivan into it?
17.

I got served.

Slightly speedier on the mobile site. Can’t wait to see what changes are brought to the mobile during the redesign. Hopefully, the edit function works again.
It seems much zippier to me. Thanks for your efforts, John and mistermix :)

It would be nice if FYWP got front page video right – as it is most video embeds are ones that were posted days previously. Oddly if you click on the title/comment the embed works on that page.
Edit is definitely faster.

It is much faster. Thanks for taking the trouble to upgrade the server!
You really do love your readers!*

@FlipYrWhig: ok. We can replace Jane with Andrew and the peace prize with either ingelhofer mustard or a puppy that needs a forever home.
Speed is much better both in loading and commenting.
I now have a fast connection but even so the speed up is very noticeable. When I was on dsl the site was pretty bad(slow) especially in commenting.
So first step success.

I had that problem for a while – it seems to have fixed itself (for me) somehow. It never bothered me too much because once I opened the post in a new tab the actual video would show up (and I recognized the old videos as just that. Yes, I am a Balloon Juice addict).
Had to fasten my seat belt. It’s working wonderfully.
I remember the days when I couldn’t get on the site.
Had to wait until it wasn’t busy.

So what do we think of the new server? Nice and speedy?
It truly has a nice, dark-colored, mustardy bouquet to it, with just a hint of denim. It brings to mind lovely Dijon in the late spring.

Y’all some impatient motherfuckers. If it were my blog, I’d stay on the slow server, and all y’all would like it or go the fuck somewhere else.
it hasn’t fixed itself for me, regardless of browser I’m using (Firefix, Chrome, Opera) or platform (MacOS or Android).

Just a test comment, how fast does it go?
Edit: I got to the “ppi” in two Mississippi, which is the canonical test for speed. Seems much faster to me. YMMV.

In other news, if anyone was wondering which body part I would manage to sunburn while riding 17 miles on the beach yesterday, the correct answer was “back of the knees.” Ouch. The ride was fun, though — Long Beach has a lovely and scenic bike path that’s not as crowded as, say, Venice or Manhattan Beach. Definitely worth the trip.

You can really tell the difference when the pages initially load and when you submit a comment. Especially when loading the marathon 100+ comment posts.
Also, since I didn’t see anyone complete the post title:
so what so what so what’s the scenario?
45.
dance around in your bones
@wmd: I’m on Firefox 19.0.2 and having no problems lately.
I do periodically clear all my cache, cookies and temp files with ATF file cleaner. (NOT a registry cleaner! NEVER use those!)
The weird thing is that a couple of months ago I lost the whole header on this site (with that stupid candy-striped half-balloon plus the search me box with what I believe is Tunch’s tail) it’s just totally blank up there.
Which I don’t mind since I know what site I’m on anyway. It may have to do with using NoScript on FF or maybe I’m just lucky ’cause I dislike that candy-striped half-balloon anyway.
Bring back the little guy with the cane and megaphone and striped pants! We love him, our precious ….. Then maybe I will do some research into why no header.

OK, yes, right now the new serve is allowing the blog to work faster.
But what about after Tunch finds a way to break in and occupy it?
Much faster. Also, and additionally and as well: I used to have to refresh to get new comments to load. I got used to it but it’s nice not to have to do it any more (knock on wood). Thanks to our Juicy Overlords.

Barely noticeably faster until you actually comment and/or edit, and I also too think it’ll be more obvious once we get a hot thread going. I rather think all my neighbors streaming porn are affecting the speed more than anything on the BJ end of the pipe.
