I wonder to what extent is America’s pervasive rape culture a subset of the pervasive human rape culture. This comes to mind because it seems to me that if we truly want to interrupt the cycles that nurture this, we might want to have a holistic understanding about all the dynamics at hand.

Joe (“What dead intern?”) Scarborough came up with that 18% tax rate by comparing the taxes the Obamas paid against the Obama’s GROSS income. But no one pays taxes on their gross income – they pay on their ADJUSTED gross income.
And that tax rate? 34.3%
By the way Joe, what do you supposed the effective tax rate was for, oh, say….Mitt Romney who, unlike the Obamas, has dividend income and (presumably) stock sales at a lower tax rate? And what would his rate be if not for the Caymans?
The intern killer then tried Republican empathy and listed the states where combined federal, state, and local taxes came to above a 50% tax rate. One of those states he mentions – Illinois – completely forgetting the Obamas also paid $29,450 in state income taxes to Illinois, making his effective tax rate 43%.
