Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Fight them, without becoming them!

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

I would rather slit my wrists with a butter knife and spend my dying moments spooning Rush Limbaugh than talk about the IRS, Benghazi, umbrellas, or whatever. Just waiting for the Sharks/Kings or the Rock and Roll HoF concert on HBO at nine.

You?

Since it’s an open thread –

Can anyone recommend a good book on the politics of the Great Depression/New Deal era? Specifically, how the advent of the former led to the rise of the former. Yes, I know the CliffNotes – worst depression ever finally leads enough people to say “we’ve had enough!” and push for real reform – just looking for something a little more in depth than that. (And especially on which actors, other than the Roosevelt administration, were involved and how).

Cole! I missed your “why don’t people like hockey” thread and I’m deeply sorry I did. Playoff hockey is so intense, so exciting, that sometimes I stomp out of the room, because I can’t stand the idea of what might happen next. I’ve been a Kings fan since 1969. They have come close at times, (Marty Mcsorleys illegally curved stick!) but have generally sucked. After they hoisted the Cup last year, all is forgiven. Some people hide their eyes during horror movies. I sometimes want to hide my eyes when the Kings have to kill the power play. Kings vs. Pens! Let The Games Begin!

Again, though, I’m one of these people who managed to thoroughly enjoy The Motion Picture and that was already too long and not-action-packed-enough for audiences a generation ago, so I’m not really the target.

Speaking of ships; the look of the new Enterprise has grown on me, but I still maintain that the refit Enterprise from the TOS movies is still the best looking starship ever made, bar none.
