Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Fight them, without becoming them!

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

@schrodinger’s cat: Feel free to announce one!

Seriously, I’ve got the party-organizing capabilities of a kitten with the runs (to recycle a John D. MacDonald line) but anybody on this corner of the country wants to propose a venue and a date, it will be front-paged. And I’ll make an earnest attempt to show up, although as a non-drinker, I can’t offer recommendations on that front.

Off topic, but my best buddy had a HUGE ST elevation myocardial infarction. Flush occlusion of the proximal LAD (widdowmaker) with copious thrombus.

He was seen in my lab, and I was able to request an operator who is, very likely THE most famous cardiologist in the entire world.

He’s doing fine. If you can call parkinsons at 32, and a MI at 43 fine.

*sigh* No one ever wants to meet in NorCal. No, not the Bay Area, actually Northern. That being said, 2nd interview over. And now, the waitings.

@lojasmo: He got elevated and had a heart attack with a flush on the occasion approximate to the widowmaker with a lot of thumbs.

Best of health to him but can you translate the latter sentence into English?

LOL. There’s something very New Englandy about that attitude – we’re VERY slow to warm up to folks, but, once you’re inside the circle, you’re in for life and we will lay down in traffic for you. Us Bostonians don’t attach to others lightly.

ETA: Framingham has a John Harvard’s brew pub – right off the Pike, Rt. 9 and Rt. 30. That would be really convenient too. Especially for me :)

I’m quite curious about it myself. Thought you might find it interesting after our various discussions on it and other health stuff.

    OT, but:

    Pat Robertson via Mediaite:

For some reason now the Supreme Court has said homosexuality is now a constitutional right and this homosexual marriage decision that was handed down recently by the majority glorifies this activity and talks about the civil rights and all this. Well, the Bible didn’t talk about civil rights it talked about this was an offense against God and it was an offense against the land and the land would vomit you out.

I’m not sure what Pat Robertson has against Regurgitated Americans, but if he’s against them, then I’m proud to call myself one.

Also, I may be wrong about this since I haven’t read it from cover to cover, but I’m pretty sure there’s nothing in the Bible about God condoning terrestrial upchucking as a preferred form of punishment.

@Comrade Nimrod Humperdink: A friend of mine just lived in Brisbane for six months on a contract from work. When I asked why she came home, she said, “HOT!!!!”. She lives in Atlanta now and grew up part of her life in South Dakota. I told her she was nuts, but then again it made it easier for her to get back when her brother was in hospital.

I’ve heard decent things about Melbourne from FH #1. I might have to discuss with him further. I am working on a credential that would make me candy down there. And not a medical one.

Brisbane isn’t just hot, it’s humid too. Melbourne can get bad in January/February (Singing Jingle Bells in shorts around a BBQ took a while for this Spokane boy to get used to) but it’s pretty agreeable the rest of the year

Only problem in Waltham on a weekend might be parking, although it’s been a while since we were down there (from Woburn). You’re right about the restaurants, though!

Framingham would also be do-able, with sufficient notice. Anywhere between Nashua to the north and F’ham to the east, really, preferably outside of Boston proper (not sure there’s any commentors closer to the Bay than Arlington, that I know of).

Neither I nor my chauffer (the Spousal Unit) are drinkers, but we don’t mind watching other people imbibe — as long as we can get snax.
