Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Giving up is unforgivable.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

People are weird.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

The lights are all blinking red.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Let there be snark.

Sorry about Friday, I didn’t catch that until much later.

I’ve been overwhelmed taking care of so many things non-internet-related. It’s also closing into the year anniversary of my mom’s death and my mother-in-law’s anniversary is this week, so there’s a lot of heavy personal stuff on top of all the awful political stuff.

Hearing about the horrible treatment of young women from the 80’s DC prep school world brought back a lot of crap that I purposefully walked away from. I think I was one of the good guys to the few girls from our sister school that attended classes with us. I am pretty sure I was a cocky shit at times when I took classes at the girl’s school (in the building my mom had lived in and almost been expelled from for grilling a grilled cheese sandwich in a hotplate out on the ledge!), but it was less sexist than teenager in a new pond: I was respectful, just cocky.

Of course that’s likely the nice way we remember things and I said mean or belittling things at times and it was nothing to me but hurt someone then. I’m both glad we self-edit our memories to spare ourselves constant guilt for our previous self’s mistakes or shortcomings while sad that this means we often miss pain we caused and so don’t have quite as much empathy for those around us who could use a kind word or gentle encouragement to help lighten their load.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

ETA: and of course the new form approach errored so only the first picture worked. I’ll re-run this again once we work that out, so sorry HL and everyone!

Today, pictures from valued commenter HeartlandLiberal.

We were invited in first week November, along with several friends, to spend a week on a yacht in Nassau, Bahamas.

Needless to say, it was quite a vacation. Here are a few pictures from the trip. Click on image to see higher resolution image. Especially click on the first image of the marina, to get the full higher resolution panorama impact, same for the Wharf at western edge of Highbourne Cay harbor below, it is also a nice panorama shot of harbor and bay beyond.

Thank you so much HeartlandLiberal, do send us more when you can.

Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email
