Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Everybody saw this coming.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

Have we highlighted this campaign ad yet? I’ve been offline most of the last few days.

THIS is how you talk about a #RacistPresident. pic.twitter.com/xhWj9r0vab

— Peter Daou (@peterdaou) July 20, 2019

I’m on the road all day. Keep a good thought. At least this time I’m not driving with the Big Dogs. Bixby hates the heat, so even in the winter, when I drive long distances with him, the car has to be freezing or he gets carsick. Scout and I have to bundle up to survive.  With these triple-digit temps, no way he’d be comfortable. So he’s at home snoozing in front of not one, but two fans. It’s a Bixby-life.

What’s on your Saturday agenda?

Yes, this ad is a simple, straight-forward truth bomb lobbed into the political landscape. I like it muchly!

And, yes, the Cats trailer is creepy.

The Democratic Party is cracking down on candidates who hope to be the next Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and progressives are fighting back

Lindsey Boylan, a former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, jumped into the primary race against New York Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler on Wednesday. She told INSIDER she’s faced intimidation from party power brokers and the DCCC’s rule has caused two staffers to leave her team.

I just finished installing (cementing) the long steel pipe that will form the mounting point for my telescope – this was the most difficult part of the project. This is for the “observatory that I am going to build about eight feet above the top of my roof (my house has three stories so the base of the new platform will be about thirty five feet above the ground.) This rather high platform is due to my home being in a valley and surrounded by high trees. Getting the steel pole/pipe into place was no fun but it is done and now properly anchored. Last week I finished the attic stairs and roof skylight/door access; I also installed 110 volt service to the area for the observatory. I’ll wait now before building the platform – I need to redo the kitchen and Den now; but by Fall, I will have the observatory done – I have a 6 inch refactor and ten inch cassegrain either can go on my computer drive mount (which the pole will be the base.) This is a fun project I’m finally do for me and not just more home upgrades. People here have their gardens and this will be my personal space.

What’s on the menu today? I live in LA and specifically Council District 12. We have a runoff election for our open council seat on August 13. Today, six of the Neighborhood Councils in the District are sponsoring a debate between Loraine Lundquist and John Lee. Loraine is a professor at Cal State University Northridge while Lee is a former Chief of Staff for the last Councilman, who resigned in January. Our neighborhood council is the primary sponsor as the debate location is within our boundaries. There has been a lot of groundwork and planning put into this and I’m hoping it comes off without a hitch. The good news is we have plenty of volunteers from my NC to help set things up. Now I just need a gallon or so of coffee and away I go….

@feebog: Good for you! These local elections and providing an opportunity for people to meet their candidates are so important. I know how much work goes into organizing events like this.
Again, kudos to you and your neighborhood council. Fingers crossed that it all goes swimmingly.

    @germy: CNN (from June 6):

(CNN)At a frank meeting this week, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler again lobbied to win Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s support for an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

Nadler, who appealed to the speaker that the House’s court cases against the Trump administration would be bolstered by launching an impeachment inquiry, also offered two new arguments in the hopes of convincing Pelosi from moving off her steadfast opposition, according to a source with knowledge of the meeting.
First, Nadler argued opening an impeachment probe would centralize the House’s sprawling investigations now spread across various panels into just one: The House Judiciary Committee. He argued that the other committees looking into various Trump controversies and scandals could instead focus on moving the party’s legislative agenda, while his panel — with its unique expertise — would investigate the alleged crimes of Trump before deciding whether to formally vote on articles of impeachment.

Secondly, Nadler made a technical argument that it would be easier for lawmakers to discuss the President’s alleged offenses on the House floor and in committees during a formal impeachment inquiry because House rules forbid members from disparaging individuals.

    […]

Good video. But if Boylan’s big issue is impeaching Donnie, it seems she has a very, very narrow lane in running against Nadler.

    Cheers,
    Scott.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Born into wealth, married an investment banker, now it’s time to give back by taking a seat in Congress from a liberal Democrat. I’m far from happy that Nadler is not starting impeachment hearings, but Boylan’s career thus far seems to be predicated on privilege.

OK, So I don’t know how to put in a link. I’d recommend Googling for George Conway’s tweet about Trump’s retweet of notorious UK racist Katie Hopkins, that has referred to desperate migrants (desperate human beings) as “cockroaches” and “feral humans” and “spreading like the norovirus,” and also “once said that the poor had no-one to blame but themselves for their difficulties.”

They seem to share the similar desire to encourage people to leave the country.

@zhena gogolia: I dunno. Now Nadler can go to Pelosi and say “See what happens if we don’t get our asses in gear on this like I have been telling you for the last year?”

for all the yelling and screaming in the world, maybe if we all took a moment and looked up at the moon today because 50 years ago Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed there and posed for future Lego sets.

That was, IMHO, one of the crowning engineering achievements in human history. If only we reached the high points of social achievements… sigh.

That’s really the reason anyone has ever done anything – potential LEGO immortality (until the set is discontinued).

Love her message. Don’t care if she doesn’t win – that message needs to be out there. I understand Pelosi is being strategic but that’s cold comfort for people of color who want moral clarity right now. If Democratic outsiders who have no prayer of winning are the ones bringing that moral clarity, so be it. Tom Steyer sucks as a candidate but has been right from the beginning about starting impeachment proceedings, even if they’re dragged out until 2020 because we all know McConnell won’t do squat.

Looked Boylan up in Wikipedia – she’s 35 years old, former student body president at Wellesley, Hillary’s alma mater. Millennials are processing the current situation much differently from older Dems.
