A guy who claims to be a genius in branding just gave us an iconic official White House picture of Speaker Pelosi standing up to him. For the first time in far too long a time, thank you, Mr. President.
Pelosi has made this picture the banner on her twitter account

actual trumpov tweet this hour, trying to regain what was lost just hours ago and full more more projection than a 14-screen multiplex:
Nancy Pelosi needs help fast! There is either something wrong with her “upstairs,” or she just plain doesn’t like our great Country. She had a total meltdown in the White House today. It was very sad to watch. Pray for her, she is a very sick person!

The worst trait of Democrats is their tendency to bargain with themselves. Amy Klobuchar is the worst and most recent example of tendency. Atrios sums it up better than I can: https://www.eschatonblog.com/2019/10/why-me.html
These so-called “centrists” simply do not understand the overton window and how Congress works. And she knows better. Her most recent proposal is rolling back *some* of the Trump tax cuts to pay for stuff. *some* of them. This is in criticism of Warren’s wealth tax as being a pipe dream. If you start at Klobuchar’s starting point after the Senate is done you’ll have 1/2 of it remaining. If you start with Warren’s proposal you chip away at it in the Senate but eventually have a vote on something resembling Warren’s original proposal.
Same with the health care issue. The “medicare for some” crowd is bargaining with themselves and proposing the compromise position as the starting point. I don’t disagree with them as it is the most likely final outcome. But you start with Warren’s medicare for all and then you end up somewhere closer to a universal public option with lots of tweaks to the current program.
Republicans never do this. They go for all the marbles every time and just keep pushing and pushing.
Counterpoint: When your proposal registers 41% support, 59% opposition from the public, it’s exceedingly likely to get you crushed at the ballot box.

All the news today is making me feel kind of anxious, so I think I’m gonna pack it in for the night and go watch some mindless TV. Except for Nancy Pelosi. I LOVE that photo of her reading the riot act to all the powerful yet spineless and pathetic “men” around the table, but I felt kind of sick, also, at the thought that there was only one woman at the table. And two years ago, there were none.

I had a pretty good day. We finally got some much-needed rain here in NoVA. In fact, we got a lot. It was drizzling steadily when I went to the dentist at 11:00, and when I came out a little after noon it was raining pretty hard. Had to use the doughty Kia’s wipers in constant mode (low), which is very rare, what with five intermittent settings.
Went to an ATM to get some cash, dithered about where to go for lunch and ended up at the Lost Dog Café for a small pizza and a pint. Very pleasant to sit at the bar and watch the rain beat down outside. Rain always makes places seem cozier, somehow.
I came home, had a bit of a lie-down, dozing and reading on the phone, and felt well set up for the evening. Got a full dose of the Trump crazy, then decided to turn that off. Watched a good episode of America’s Test Kitchen on sous vide cooking and have now switched over to the Astros pummeling the universally reviled Yankees. Might veer off to Property Brothers at some point. Comfort TV.

It all depends on how you mean that. If you’re thinking that the old site is misbehaving as a result of the site rebuild, it is not. The new site is being developed on a different server hosted by an entirely different entity. Never the twain shall meet.
But if you are suggesting that we are building the new site because of all the problems with the old site, you would be absolutely correct. Hang in there, it shouldn’t be too much longer.

I’d be enjoying his suffering, if it weren’t for the annoying fact that pretty much the whole damn world is going to be collateral damage to some extent.
This is also the first really big foreign policy crisis that he’s had to handle. Not going so well. And to add to his long-term miseries, all sorts of economic indicators are trending down.
Well, he’s had others, but he instigated all of them. Like picking fights with North Korea, or completely falling down on the job for Ukraine, etc.
He only MOSTLY instigated this one. As in, Erdogan asked him very nicely if the U.S. would just get up and go so the Turks could murder a bunch of people and Trump agreed enthusiastically.
77.
Jeffro
@Leto: True! And we can’t say we weren’t warned (although in fairness, “we” didn’t vote for him, his mouth-breathing supporters did)…he was offering Kasich the VP spot and basically every governing/policy lever under the sun, so that – in Don Jr’s words, or was it Eric’s? – trumpov could just occupy the office and run around ‘making America great again’
“John…I just want to bask in the adulation of the people, John…you do the legislativeishthingy stuff, and I’ll run around making American great by reassuring the old white folks that someone like me is back in the White House, you hear me John?”
They’re all just different variations of crazy, twisted, corrupt, and stupid. It’s like a recipe you can tweak based on just HOW corrupt you want the end product, or just how stupid.
I was also wryly amused at Kevin McCarthy trying to claim that Nancy stormed out of the meeting because, you know, she always does (wink, wink), but the other Democrats “had a very productive meeting.” Needless to say, that’s not at all what “the other Democrats” said.
He seems to feel the need to prove over and over that he’s a very stupid man.
@Jeffro: Point. It does seem to be the one thing he’s good at. Even though sucking up is his other major job skill, he’s only middling at it.

Been missing my M. coon-like cat Charlie a lot. He was special from our first look at each other. He had taken shelter from a winter storm inside a repair garage, and had hollowed himself out an igloo from the boxes of oil filters stacked on a metal shelf. The guys in the garage were afraid to touch him so I went in. They put giant gloves on me and walked behind me down the shelving. . He was a 6 mo old small gentle cat….

Pelosi explained to Trump that Russia has always wanted a “foothold in the Middle East,” and now it has one with the U.S. withdrawal.
“All roads with you lead to Putin,” the speaker said.
That’s when Trump unraveled and went into a full-blown meltdown.
If only we had had the sense to listen to Seth Moulton….
(I’m seeing around twitter that the House Rs have some kind of censure vote tomorrow on Adam Schiff. Anybody seen any news on this? How would they get any motion to the floor? Or are they going to do this in the cafeteria or something?)
@debbie: I believe the only way to get a vote to the floor without the Speaker is a discharge petition with 218 votes, so they only need 72 Republicans and about twenty Dems to sign on? That should work

The wind rose here all of a sudden about an hour ago. After 3 am, and then throughout the day, the wind speed is supposed to go off the charts at times; then huge waves arrive in the afternoon. L:ooking forward to the wildness of a storm. Picked apples again today because they’ll be all down after tomorrow. Just one good tree, though it’s a real good one. We’re buying a very small adjoining piece of land with few more trees on it. Dream of making hard cider if I get a press, but I admit those dreams of mine don’t much come true.
The dog is confused tonight. Maybe due to a pressure drop. He seems to be suddenly much deafer. He’s been on a long course of doxycycline … can that increase deafness in dogs?

It’s nuts. How do they say it with a straight face, much less over their reptilian true faces?
Jeffro
@Nicole: Truly, the salt of the earth, the heartland, the noble folk of flyover country are ‘undecided’ and always for good reasons…even if they seem to keep coming to the same conclusions at the ballot box.
It’s just kind of odd, is what I’m saying.
Jeffro
@Redshift: Great point on both fronts. He can’t handle 1 issue at a time, much less 2 or more. And his own stupidity has caused yet another ‘snowball’ he is (rightfully) distracted by, meaning he can’t focus on his signature issues…
…like “Infrastructure Week”. LOLOLOL
Duane
@Jeffro: Makes you want to yell, ” you idiot can’t you hear yourself?” If that’s a stable genius, I’m a supercomputer!
Jeffro
@Duane: I forget which of his mental problems causes him to believe he’s perfect and that anything he’s accused of must be something the other person is guilty of…there are so many to keep track of…
dmsilev
@Jeffro: This is also the first really big foreign policy crisis that he’s had to handle. Not going so well. And to add to his long-term miseries, all sorts of economic indicators are trending down.
I’d be enjoying his suffering, if it weren’t for the annoying fact that pretty much the whole damn world is going to be collateral damage to some extent.
Jeffro
@dmsilev:
Well…he did break the Obama Rule of “don’t do stupid shit”. Because of course that Obama, what did he know?
Also possibly relevant that Obama has no hotels in turkey, nor kompromat in Russian safe deposit boxes.
Leto
@Jeffro: HE JUST WANTS TO GET IN THE BIG TRUCKS AND GO TOOT TOOT YOU LIBCUCKS! WHY DO YOU HATE TOOT TOOTS??? /s

Glad to see Steve, Cole.
That picture proves it:
It’s Steve’s house…He lets you live there because you feed him???
Mary G
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: “I should know!”
mrmoshpotato
?C is for cookie, and that’s good enough for me?
mrmoshpotato
@Leto: Honk honk goes the truck! And to prison goes all this mobster trash.
Damn you autoincorrect.

@Elizabelle: If it’d just been a dog, it would have A) not been a problem, and B) a very short movie
MisterForkbeard
@dmsilev:
?BillinGlendaleCA
@cain: Steve hacked Cole’s WordPress account and then ate Cole, that’s why he looks full. DON’T BE FOOLED PEOPLE.
billcinsd
@Cacti: the vast majority of people don’t vote based on any one policy, so one policy polling poorly is hardly a killer

@Leto
“Erdogan can toss journalists into the slammer with impuntiy! Waaah!”

Jeffro
@Redshift:
In fairness, he is REALLY good at it.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Leto: Toot toot is what happens when you eat beans.
NotMax
@Redshift
More spin than at the Duncan Yo-yo Championships.
Redshift
@Jeffro: Point. It does seem to be the one thing he’s good at. Even though sucking up is his other major job skill, he’s only middling at it.
Aleta
Steve looks good sprawling.

@Jeffro: Practice, practice, practice.

@WaterGirl:
Oh yeah? Oh yeah? Mine isn’t the only wrist I can break, ya know.

Jimmy Kimmel just did a bit on Balloon Boy.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
If only we had had the sense to listen to Seth Moulton….
(I’m seeing around twitter that the House Rs have some kind of censure vote tomorrow on Adam Schiff. Anybody seen any news on this? How would they get any motion to the floor? Or are they going to do this in the cafeteria or something?)
debbie
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
I’ve seen it reported that 125 of the 197 Rethugs in the House want to force a censure vote.

Gathering in the Super Sekrit Klubhouse..
:)
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@debbie: I believe the only way to get a vote to the floor without the Speaker is a discharge petition with 218 votes, so they only need 72 Republicans and about twenty Dems to sign on? That should work
Aleta
He’s been on a long course of doxycycline … can that increase deafness in dogs?
cain
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
He ate Bannon, I mean, that would explain why he was drunk!

@Aleta:
Surf’s up dude?

@Aleta
Bring in the trash cans and patio furniture.

@Yutsano: @MisterForkbeard: Ya know, the love of his life Putin, mighta have some say in this.
Aleta
@mrmoshpotato: water cold as a frog’s eye
@NotMax: the trash can—good point. maybe the outdoor shower too.
Aleta
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: next time she should go in with a puppet and talk to it instead of him
mrmoshpotato
@Aleta: The surf is up however. ?
Bring in any patio umbrellas too. Least they go dancing down the street.
SWMBO
@Aleta: My old girl Pixie had ehrlichia and was on doxycycline for months. All I can tell you is that she didn’t seem to be going deaf. Hope that helps.
Having said that, we’ve had a couple of partially deaf dogs over the years. It’s one of the hardest thing to figure out.
