Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Bark louder, little dog.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Infrastructure week. at last.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

    OMG, Biden wiping down the podium before Blinken spoke. Such a small gesture, but exactly the leadership we need right now. Modeling best behavior.

    what a story from @JoeBiden pick for Secretary of State, @ABlinken, about his late step-father, who as a child survived the pogroms in Poland, escaped, knelt in front of a U.S. Army tank and "said the only 3 English words his mother had taught him…God bless America"

    @SiubhanDuinne: It’s like a huge weight lifted. And I’m sure there are people who could bring more climate knowledge to the position, but Kerry comes with a world of goodwill and he’ll be able to bring people to the table that might otherwise be hesitant.

    In these sorts of ad-hoc positions it’s even more important to have someone with gravitas than say a Cabinet appointment that carries its own authority along with the title.    Kerry is a great pick because he commands the gravitas, especially overseas.

    Along the lines that we continue to live on different planets if not in different universes, I came home a couple of hours ago and turned on the tv which was tuned to Fox, thanks to SO who gets his daily laughs by checking out conservative media. The chyron across the bottom read; ” John Kerry is a joke……………………”

    This is why we are so divided.  The conservative news media has brainwashed conservatives…. into legitimately believing that we are evil, radical socialists and communists. It’s not a question of patriotism over partisanship.  They actually believe we are the anti-American ones.  I do not know what we can do about this.

    @dww44: This gives me hope:

    Anderson Cooper Beats Tucker Carlson in Friday Demo Ratings; CNN Preserves Prime Time Demo Win Streak https://t.co/xlX0lNlR2a— Mediaite (@Mediaite) November 24, 2020

    The 27% can go off to OANN and Newsmax where they can echo chamber to their heart’s desire. Not that I think CNN is all that, but it’s not in the alternate universe Fox inhabits.

    @pamelabrown53:

    It won’t be “like” an Arby’s, the Trump Presidential Library will be an actual Arby’s.

    If Trump starts raising library money in lieu of 2024 campaign money, that will be an interesting message he’s sending.

    Because Trump’s CNN hatred has been front and center four years running, I have a new if grudging appreciation for CNN. Don’t watch, but I don’t watch any of them.

    Arby’s were in Malaysia for a while but they didn’t last. I miss them. Their roast beef sandwiches were way better than McDonald’s burgers.

    I expect the trump presidential “libary” to be gift shop adjacent to a dildo store and a crematorium filled with all the left over campaign detritus and shelves full of “The Shart of the Deal.” Clips of the Apprentice running on an endless loop. Eric and Don jr working valet parking.

    I just remembered that there was never an official ceremony for hanging Obama’s portrait.  I assume Biden will have PBO over for a little ceremony early next year sometime while trump’s portrait can rot in a basement closet somewhere….

    The latter will go nicely in the broom closet adjacent to the bunker, seeing as how there’s no on site sewage plant to decorate.

    @dww44:

    The conservative news media has brainwashed conservatives…. into legitimately believing that we are evil, radical socialists and communists.

    They already believed this.  The conservative news media parrots chain emails back to the base that invented them in the first place.  Not that FOX is powerless, and I’m sure there’s an amplification effect, but it is crucial to remember:  Republican voters went looking for whoever would tell them the lies they wanted to hear.  In fact, they throw screaming fits and threaten whoever refuses to tell them what they want to hear.  Why do you think FOX is losing ground?  Because they have found limits to the lies they are willing to tell, and the base demands to be told they are always, always right and always, always the good guys fighting an absolute (brown) evil.

    They actually believe we are the anti-American ones.

    Their definition of ‘American’ is ‘white Christian men’.  They think about the things that seem American to them, and those things always center around what white Christian men as an identity want.  So, yes, they see us as anti-American.  If that’s how you define America, we are anti-American.  We don’t think white Christian men should get to have everything their way, and be catered to as the definition of normal.  This is not new.  This is centuries old.  They just lost their fucking shit when a black man was elected president and they realized they’re inches from losing total control.  Society has already left them behind, and it eats at them constantly.

    what a story from @JoeBiden pick for Secretary of State, @ABlinken, about his late step-father, who as a child survived the pogroms in Poland, escaped, knelt in front of a U.S. Army tank and “said the only 3 English words his mother had taught him…God bless America”
    — Judy Woodruff (@JudyWoodruff) November 24, 2020

    The tank was also being operated by Black soldiers, and the guy who pulled Blinken’s stepfather into the tank was the child of a former slave~!!~

    @Mary G: @trollhattan:  Dead thread and all, I nevertheless wish to defend CNN. I watched a lot of their programming during the election season.They were and are very anti Trump……. Erin Burnett, Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper, Don Lemon, and to a lesser degree Chris Cuomo, who views himself as some sort of neutral pundit but having Covid forced him out of that neutrality.

    And there was no reporter more willing to confront Trump than Jim Acosta. He has been fearless about calling the President  out.

    @japa21: But I’m still afraid of what the orange shit-bag will do.

    The one notion that gives me a little pause is that Cheeto Benito is stalling in hopes that Daddy Vladdy’s Cossack cavalry will arrive from Sankt-Peterburkh in the nick of time, dragging dumpstersful of artfully falsified “evidence” of massive fraud.

    A little, but not much. I am >90% confident that, as an unintended consequence of the Thugs’ incompetent response to the pandemic, massive voting by mail with its concomitant paper trail has foreclosed that possibility.
