Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

“woke” is the new caravan.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Peak wingnut was a lie.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Petty moves from a petty man.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

That’s funny, because Jamie Dimon didn’t give working people an itemized list of the school districts, public hospitals, infrastructure, or affordable housing projects he was helping defund when he pushed for the $2T GOP Tax Scam in 2017 w/ goodies for yacht and jet owners.

🤷🏽‍♀️ https://t.co/ecBOBaRmmA

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) May 6, 2021

MOTU motherfuckers like Jamie Dimon are so high on their own farts that they think that there’s an audience for this kind of bullshit outside of the other one percenters participating in their invisible hand circle jerk. There isn’t – taxing the rich is pretty fucking popular, and AOC’s response is a good pattern for Democrats.

Where would Jamie Dimon and JPMorgan be had the taxpayers not bailed them out in 2008?

The only important “laundry list” is the list of demands Nancy Pelosi failed to give Hank Paulson when he got down on his knees and begged her to let the House pass that bailout. A true failed turning point with far-reaching and terrible consequences.

AOC’s response is a good pattern for Democrats.

Which is exactly why a lot of us like her. For all the complaints, she’s as good as anyone in the business at converting abstract political concepts into something ordinary people can understand and at getting people to pay attention as she does it. We desperately need more of that.

There were a lot of very talented and capable Democratic Representatives elected in 2018. None of them started out with the fame and celebrity that accompanied Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY).  Some are as good at communication as she is, maybe better. But if Veronica Escobar (TX) or Lauren Underwood (IL) said something about  Jaime Dimon that was as incisive as what Ocasio-Cortez said, would we even hear about it?
