ACA Open Enrollment in most states ends by the end of the day today.
Go sign up or at least get started.
Otherwise, you’ll need a Special Enrollment Period to get insurance if you aren’t covered or have insurance that you don’t like.
Just go do it!

I already have health insurance through my job, but ok.

Also … there’s no downside. You don’t like it, you cancel! Easy!
(Meanwhile, you’ll, y’know, not die because you find yourself without adequate coverage in a crisis.)

ACA has been great for those of us in the retirement pre Medicare gap. Basically it made retiring viable, and because CA public employees employer-provided plans were aligned with ACA plans, we basically moved straight over to our old employer provided plans.
ACA does create some odd incentives though. Paying off the house was immediately valuable because we didn’t need to take enough income to cover the mortgage payments any longer, which boosted the subsidy, which really doesn’t seem like the correct incentive. The new problem is that CA is trying to seamlessly connect MediCal (our Medicaid) with the exchange so that if you fall off of one you automatically get picked up by the other, so some of the paperwork is used for both. We need to keep our income above a certain level to not get dumped onto MediCal (which we previously didn’t qualify for due to assets but this year could because CA got rid of the asset limit. So it incentivizes income shenanigans that are easy to do with a financial planner and tax accountant, and not so easy for everyone else.

@bbleh: I suspect there is a downside if you apply when you are not eligible, but I suspect if you answer truthfully in the application process, you are weeded out before any harm is done.
