PATRONPUPPEH!!!!

Yeah, I couldn’t remember when the raffle was first announced – I must have missed it. Thank you!
Alison Rose
The little Patron is so cute :)

I still haven’t seen anyplace else take up the issue of Cannon’s rulings on Friday. Has anyone else seen/heard anything? It seemed like sort of a big issue.
sab
Your fabrics are amazing.
raven
@soapdish: Msnbc is all over it right now.
Alison Rose
Today is the 20th anniversary of the first same-sex weddings in San Francisco after Newsom said YOLO:
🌈🌈🌈
soapdish
@raven: I’ll miss that since I don’t watch any television, but I meant like nothing on Empty Wheel, LGM, TPM, Digby, etc.. I figured *someone* would have posted *something* over the weekend.
WaterGirl
@soapdish: It’s all kind of in limbo at the moment, so there’s not a lot to say. Jack Smith DID turn over the documents to Trump, as ordered, but they are not allowed to release them publicly.
The jack Smith motion for reconsideration is still hanging out there – waiting for a response from Loose Cannon.
Apparently in the Jack Smith filing, they even included a relevant case that Cannon worked on when she was part of the DOJ – possibly the only case she ever worked on where there was actually a ruling – which supported the position that Jack Smith is taking.
Scuttlebutt is that that was a shot over the bow from Jack Smith.
Right now it seems to be a waiting game.
Cannon can either: 1) back up and change her ruling or 2) stand her ground and Jack Smith takes it to the 11th circuit.
@raven: What are they saying on MSNBC?
wjca
If they are in the hands of Trump’s lawyers, that might be OK. But if he gets his hot little hands on them himself, no way he fails to make them public. (The only hope is that he manages to confuse what the actual names are,)
raven
@WaterGirl: Lot’s but Smith’s lawyers are still in there.
sab
@sab: I never in a million years would have thought those two smoky fabrics in the big quilt were suitable for a quilt: quite bland. But they are perfect, and with the others all blend together amazingly.
jmh
My father passed away back in 2020 and I contacted Quiltingfool about making a quilt out of his t-shirts. She did an amazing job and it looks great.
WaterGirl
@raven: Ah. Those are the separate Cannon meetings with both sides.

I’m back like a bad penny to continue making a major fuss about Beyonce dropping not one, but two country songs during yesterday’s sportsball thingy. This absolute creative genius and artist is on a trajectory to school us all about our various American music genres and their African and Black American origins. Do yourself a favor and check these two (I can’t wait until record store day to get the vinyl)

TBone
@laura: I loved both and saved the links last time you posted ❤️ thank you!
WaterGirl
@wjca: It’s still horrifying!
sab
@laura: What with chaos in my mostly elderly family I have been remiss in learning about new music.
Now I have time.
WaterGirl
@laura: I started to listen to both of them, not really my thing. But are you saying that she is intentionally rolling through different musical styles to make clear the African and AA musical origins of the various kinds of music?
If so, that does seen notable.
UncleEbeneezer
@laura: I love that she’s doing that (trying to take Country back for Black People) but I’m still not really a fan of Country so the songs don’t do much for me. To be fair though, as much as I love Beyonce as an artist and icon, I probably only really love maybe a dozen of her songs.

Apparently TIFG wants his DIL, Lara Trump to head the RNC. I don’t see any issues coming from that! //
Yutsano
@UncleEbeneezer: I think it’s also trolling Taylor some.
sab
@jmh: Everyone thinks you can’t quilt t-shirts. You can. They just need iron-on backing to stailize them.
Knits are not stable. They fade and shrink always. Sophisticated fabric people can easily deal with it.
Woven fabric you wash it once and you understand it.
Knits shrink forever through multiple washings.
You cannot sew a knit fabric and reliably selll it. Boil them and everytime they come out even smaller. Knits are unstable ( aka known as nuts.)

@Jackie: bahahahaha

Trouble With Travis brought to you by one of the creators of Phineas and Ferb.

Press conference with CA AG Rob Bonta and the CA Legislative Black Caucus introducing legislation to reduce Black maternal mortality. Very glad to see them discussing this issue and working to fight it. I also appreciated Bonta making sure to mention that AFAB nonbinary folks and trans men are included in their efforts.
sab
We have a friend who was a hugely successful roady and tech in NE Ohio. He had amassed an amazing collection of t-shirts. He didn’t know what to do with them. His sister said not much. So he dumped them all.
With proper stiiffening he could have had a goldmine selling quiltes. Letter to self. When you ask, consider if they know what they are talking about.
laura
@WaterGirl: Yes, Beyonce is intentionally rolling through American Music genres and reclaiming their roots; and by extension; American Popular Culture. I cannot wait until she comes for rock and roll, and then jazz.
That 16 Carriages is a song about life on the road, and what an artist sacrifices to bring their music to the people. Both my brothers are roadies and so this one cuts to the quick. For Jackals who are not country music fans, please accept my apologies for relentlessly throwing Beyonce into Open Threads, but please also consider a close listen to perhaps hear the larger truths about ourselves and who we “reward” for their efforts.
WaterGirl
@Jackie: Let’s see. Trump wants to basically be in charge of RNC fundraising. He wants to put a family member in place, who would nominally be the figurehead.
Nothing to see here. //
Narrator: Oh my god, just when I thought he couldn’t get any more frightening.
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie:
Yes! Let one of his family members continue ripping off the Rethuglican National Committee by running it – into the ground!
Go for it, you mobster trash.
“Nice committee you got here. Be a shame if something happened to it.”
Chief Oshkosh
@Alison Rose: Now if only we could get Southern states to get serious about it. Hell, just recognizing it would be a giant leap forward.
WaterGirl
@mrmoshpotato: I didn’t watch the game. Was Kelce happy when he was yelling?
And who is Travis?
Alison Rose
@WaterGirl: Travis Kelce.
Jackie
HAHA! Way to go Virginia House Democrats!
mrmoshpotato
@WaterGirl: Heard of WinRed? (Rethuglican version of ActBlue)
WaterGirl
@laura: No apologies!
I couldn’t take the clomping of the hooves, so I only made it through a few seconds of the first one.
WaterGirl
@Alison Rose: Oh, right. I was momentarily thinking Kelce was his first name.
I did have a pneumonic going – Travis is the one dating Taylor. I just forgot! :-)
WaterGirl
@Jackie: Nice!
Alison Rose
@WaterGirl: Especially with athletes, since they are so often only called by their last names, it’s easy to be like “Oh yeah, that’s his name”. The other day, someone referred to the soccer player Messi as “Lionel” and for a hot minute, I was like, who the hell are you talking about.
Frankensteinbeck
@Jackie:
This says to me that Trump is desperate. He has to pay $83 million dollars in the next 30 days that he does not have. He’s spent all the PAC money. He needs the RNC’s money, and the RNC isn’t just forking it over to him for his private use.
I suspect he’s going to have to sell or put liens on his properties to cover the money, and it will have to be at fair prices, which will torture his ego even worse than losing the properties. He seems incredibly invested in his public claim that every location he owns is worth 10 times what it actually is.

The sunflower wallhanging is just beautiful! And at the same time, the alleycats make me laugh.
sab
@Madeleine: I don’t know how she does her quilts. Actual quilting aside, the designs are amazing.
sab
@laura: I saw this and will check on it. Love her music.
sab
@Madeleine: My housecats are offended by the alley cats. “Low rent cats” as if my house cats ever rented at all.
mrmoshpotato
@Frankensteinbeck:
The RNC still has money? 🤨
WaterGirl
@Madeleine: I actually have the sunflower cat block hanging on my wall. The one in the photo here hasn’t been quilted yet – mine is stunning. it’s too dark now to show the actual colors, but tomorrow I will catch another photo of mine and add it to a thread.
It’s really stunning.
WaterGirl
@WaterGirl: Like I said, the colors aren’t quite right – it’s hanging in the hallway, against a very pale background.
You can see from the wall color that everything is showing darker than it is.
Alison Rose
@WaterGirl: How do you have it attached to the wall?
Kathleen
@laura: Here’s Vulture article with some background (free for limited period of time)
https://www.vulture.com/article/beyonce-renaissance-act-ii-everything-we-know.html
I adore Rhiannon Giddens. Per the article Robert Randolph plays steel guitar on one of the cuts. I’m going to have to buy this album.
karen marie
@Jackie: That is absolutely hilarious. I don’t think Don Don knows what the RNC actually does.
karen marie
@WaterGirl: Kelce is pronounced “Kells,” not “Kel-see,” but …
Kathleen
@laura: Listened to the cuts. They were amazing. I was folk music freak in the 60’s and the opening of the first song reminded me of a 60’s folk singer (Joan Baez like) then it goes to so many other places. Texas Hold Em is amazing (that chorus!!!!). She’s inventing something completely new.
WaterGirl
@Alison Rose: Attached to the wall with 3M picture hangers.
There’s a velcro piece that sticks to the wall and the other part of the velcro piece sticks to the cloth, and when you press them, they do their magic.
WaterGirl
@karen marie: Donnie thinks RNC and only thinks money-money-money-money-money.
rikyrah
@laura:
She is just amazing
Alison Rose
@WaterGirl: Oh, neat, I might try that. Right now I have my two blocks laying on top of my storage bench in my bedroom, but it would be nice to have them on the wall where I can see them better :)
Kathleen
@Alison Rose: Rep Lauren Underwood from Illinois (a nurse) has crafted a lot of legislation about maternity care in general but she particularly is to make sure Black mothers have the same quality of care.
rikyrah
@Frankensteinbeck:
He wants the RNC’s $$$$$$
Alison Rose
@Kathleen: The differences are stark and horrifying, even when accounting for all other factors.
Kathleen
@Yutsano: I disagree. After listening to the tracks I think she is creating some very new and different music. I watched an older documentary about Miles Davis during the Super Bowl and that’s exactly what he did. He constantly evolved to stay relevant for commercial reasons but also because he got bored playing same thing.
TBone
@Kathleen:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aRVK1FzC_Wk
I also disagree that this has anything to do with Taylor. I think it’s about roots and much more.
Kathleen
@Alison Rose: Yes they are. I think Kamala has also worked with Rep Underwood because Black maternity care is one of her issues as well.
Kathleen
@TBone: Giddins, who worked with her on this project has been on a mission for years to share the Black legacy of the banjo and bring it back into Black musical culture. I bitch about Kentucky but Kentucky Educational Television (KET) has the most incredible documentaries that you may not see on PBS. One of them was about the role banjos and guitars played in Black culture and how they have gone out of favor in the Black Community. Rhiannon Giddens formed the Carolina Chocolate Drops to resurrect folk music and awareness of those instruments. That’s where I first learned about her.
WaterGirl
@Alison Rose: I use several of them to hold up the quilt block. I like the simplicity of the look. No hanger just beautiful quilt!
Quiltingfool
@jmh: I’m so glad you like it! The shirts were amazing!
If you don’t mind, could I share a picture with everyone?
Quiltingfool
@sab: I use interfacing on t-shirts so they won’t do the stretchy thing! Most t-shirts have been worn and washed many times, so I don’t worry too much about shrinkage. My quilting machine can get fussy when confronted with t-shirt material, but I learned to manage it!
Quiltingfool
@sab: Some quilters like making t-shirt quilts, some hate it. It’s a slightly different skill set that some quilters don’t want to acquire, lol!
All I can say is if anyone wants to get into t-shirt quilt construction, you better have lots of graph paper, pencils, erasers and a good grasp of “quilt” arithmetic! T-shirt graphics are not uniform in size, hence graphing and math.
Alison Rose
@WaterGirl: Plus you don’t have to poke holes in them!
Quiltingfool
@sab: Well, I don’t design them (oh, how I wish I was that artistic!) I buy patterns. Now, I will change an appliqué to fit a theme. The Headdress Kitty? The real appliqué is a kitty with a witch hat – and just the head, no body. I enlarged the appliqué, drew a body and changed the hat. I made this same appliqué with a Santa hat, too.
I will use parts of an appliqué pattern on other things, too. I’ve used the sunflower appliqués on other quilts because I like how they look.
Quiltingfool
@sab: What would your kitties think about this crazy cat? This is an appliqué I may put in a quilt…
https://pin.it/6ZO1AG2YT
WaterGirl
@Alison Rose:
I would never do that!
Quilting fool sewed a flap in mine that a dowel could go through, but I didn’t even want that. Just the beautiful quilt block, for me.
jmh
@Quiltingfool: Of course. Feel free.
Bonnie Hutchens
I donated to the Ukraine fund now what do I do to enter the quilt raffle? I’m new …
WaterGirl
@Bonnie Hutchens: I sent you an email message.
