Mission Impossible. You’re such a guy.

I loved all of the Cruise MI movies. And sounds like this one is no different. Say what you will about Cruise and his nuttbagging over Scientology and acting abilities. He makes entertaining movies, especially the action kind with first rate F/X.

Fucking movies based on toys, games and TV shows, but I heard part of an interview with the Farrelly bros about the Three Stooges, and just the set up about the scene with the nuns being knocked down (not knocked up) made me LOL. Jane Lynch as the mother superior of their orphanage, also too. Not going to see it at the movies, but the Farrelly bros are good for a few nyuk nyuk nyuks.

Cruise gets bonked in the head like ten times. It’s a crowd pleaser.

Since I just discovered DS9 on NF instant, I am going to get lost in that series. I was basically a fanatic fan of it the first few years it was on, then kind of drifted away, when different studios started producing it. Big giant crush on Terry Farrell/DAX, also too.

Mission: Impossible’s been a great franchise all along. Still prefer the old series (not out of nostalgia, I discovered it via YouTube and Netflix), but Tom Cruise’s movies are pretty good. Wonder if they’ll keep the franchise going after he retires, whenever that is.

@mcd410x: I’ve heard that rumor too. But has there ever been any sightings?
chrome agnomen
@cathyx:
the NRA says that the fact there have been no sightings just proves the case.
cathyx
@chrome agnomen: That sounds like heads I win, tails you lose.

@cathyx: That’s some catch, that Catch-22.

I should have seen the new one in theaters, because if the Burj Sequence gave me vertigo in my living room, I can’t imagine how cool it would have been there, much less in IMAX!

I saw MI:Ghost Protocol in the theatre. I’m not a Cruise fan, but I did really enjoy the last installment. The special effect were cool, the storyline was pretty interesting and the gadgetry wa pretty futuristic. At the very least, Cruise’s movies tend to have the latest in new and emerging technology that ultimately becomes reality (rember those “virtual” screens in Minority Report? Now that shit is damn near in all the sci-fi tec movies. Reminds me a lot of the IPad.)
Plus, I rememeber at the time posting this video of Cruise actually doing his own stunts for the Burj Khalifa scene. http://youtu.be/Y_-blkp5MbQ
Dude is out of his mind, does scientology make you dare devil crazy?
Here’s the raw footage: http://youtu.be/3FyO_bnIsqk

@Omnes Omnibus: It’s the best there is.

The most entertaining Tom Cruise clip I’ve seen in awhile was his visit to Top Gear. He and Cameron Diaz dropped in while they were promoting Night and Day.
__
They were both really fast doing their laps as the “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.” Cruise’s lap in particular was the wildest one I’ve seen.

@BethanyAnne: Is that a Yogi Berra-ism?

@lamh35: FWIW they had a “newspad” in 2001 A Space Odyssey that looks just like an ipad.
lamh35
@Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason: Night and Day was meh. It had action, but I was distracted by how old Cameron Diaz looked (something about the lighting or filmotography(sp?) was off and her skin did not come off well) and also, I just kept rolling my eyes the whole time it was so obvious that it was being filmed so that somehow Tom Cruise and Camron Diaz were virtually the same height???? The whole time I was like ‘come on now really?”
lamh35
@S. cerevisiae: I was thinking more about how they would do all the movement of the images and the interaction in 3d space??? They were basically doing the stuff in Minority Report that John King and CNN just loves to do on election night now-a-days.

I recently discovered the Escher Girls blog on tumbler. It’s a repository of bad comic book art. People submit revisions to published art to unbreak the women’s spines and put their boobs and internal organs back where they belong.
The amazing thing is how many pages the blogowner was able to run before she caved in to pressure and took her first shot at Rob Liefeld. It may come as a surprise to you how much bad art has been published over the past twenty years or so.

I have read Tom Cruise has been cast as Jack Reacher, from Lee Child’s novels. Or do you just call those books. Anyway, in the books Reacher is blonde, 6’5″ and 250lbs. My wife and I both read the Reacher books and due to their popularity figured they would eventually make a move so we have been guessing at who they would cast. Tom Cruise was nowhere on my list. I was going with the guy who played Thor.
Hawes
That’s kind of freaky.
I am, too.
More Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg.
Less Tom Cruise.
Hawes
@Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason: Tropic Thunder. Best Cruise performance ever.

@Narcissus: If it isn’t, it oughta be.

Damn straight. No critic could have said it better.
Suffern ACE
@patrick II: Tom cruise is 5’2″ and probably 135#. I’m guessing everyone else in the movie will be 4’8″ so he can pull it off.
Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason
@patrick II: Cruise as Reacher? Oh, FSM, say it ain’t so. That would be the worst bit of casting since Frank Sinatra in Von Ryan’s Express. What the hell are they thinking?
patrick II
@Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason:
I couldn’t believe it either, Reacher’s physicality is such an integral part of his character. but here is the imdb link.

I just finished watching Ghost Protocol about 30 minutes ago. Loved it.

B-b-b-Benny and the Jets have stepped in it again. I predict a huge outpouring of support (including financial support) for the nuns if he goes ahead with this.

MI 1, 3, and 4 were all great. 2 was awful.
I saw the latest in theater, in IMAX 3D, and it was well worth the price of admission. The Burj Khalifa scene was particularly stunning

New Jason Statham movie coming out next Friday. Gonna watch him throw people around and drive fast cars. Woo hoo!

@Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason: Good lord, that is so far from my mental picture of Reacher. I always imagined a bit of a hulking presence.

Friend sent me this. Great pics of dogs and water.

My husband screamed at me that I had to write in to say, “YOU SHOULD HAVE WATCHED IT IN IMAX!”
He dragged me and the kid (14 year old girl) to the IMAX theater over her, um, extreme reluctance. It was pretty great to see it that way. He has carefully raised her so that she is anxiously awaiting Avengers and the next Star Trek movie. She nagged him into reading the Hunger Games.
The sequence in the sandstorm goes on too long, though.

New thing about Romney that is going to drive the women vote to Obama.
I think Allahpundit is going to slit his wrists any day now.
His tears are the most delicious nightcap ever.
Uh oh: Obama 47, Romney 42, Gary Johnson 6
i betcha….those GaJo voters are Paultards….and one of them is Erik Kain.

Tonight was all about “Community” and Abed & Annie in the dreamatorium, for me. Such a shame that show is up against the Big Bang Theory ratings Juggernaut, as it out-geeks, out-smarts, and out-classes BBT on any given Thursday.
So far as Tom Cruise goes, I liked him best in Top Gun and A Few Good Men, as he somehow manages to capture the arrogant narcissistic types so well. (I agree his performance in Tropic Thunder was par excellence, but overall the movie didn’t grab me enough for a second view.
brantl
I can’t watch Tom Cruise, he can’t act, and he’s such a weaselly little ferret.
Yeggo
I can’t believe that Obama invoked Ghost Protocol on our hard working men and women in the field. Romney 2012!
Hawes
@Smiling Mortician:
Does he say, “Nutless monkey”? Because if he doesn’t then, no.
I guess maybe that goes to Stiller and the other writers, but there’s something about the phrase “nutless monkey” that is just poetic.

MI4 delivered the goods. The Burj Dubai scene actually got our crowd to jump back in unison. But most of the “India” scenes were actually filmed in Vancouver. It is simply too much of a headache to do big budget movies in India. The producers of the next James Bond film tried to get permission from Indian Railways for a chase scene, but the list of conditions and demands got too long.
If you go all the way back to Risky Business, Tom Cruise has been a consistent box office draw for almost 3 decades. Respect bitches.

Love cats? Watch “The Seal” from season 2, available on Amazon. Makes absolutely no sense on any level, but the orange tabby is completely adorable.
