Don’t you earn money from this enterprise? Isn’t that kind of like saying you went on a bender and didn’t show up to your job as a widget maker or Clinton campaign operative for a week?

Who’s tired of pope coverage?

Wait, I’m confused. If you didn’t read the news or read blogs, what exactly did you do? Sleep? Watch reruns of BSG? Is there anything else to do?
Please don’t tell me that you “went out of doors” to enjoy some “fine Spring weather” or something insane like that.

I took yesterday off too. I watched some Star Trek movies (ye gods, Star Trek the Movie drags), hung out with friends, threw a quasi-seder, and I don’t feel like I missed anything.
Hopefully we’ll all be able to take tons of time off after Tuesday.

I don’t know this psersonally, for a fact, but I have heard rumors that it might be true ….

Sacrilege! You must be stoned for this outrage!
Or is that you spent the last 48 hours?

Highlight of my day yesterday was early voting in NC: we put two more on the board for the MUP.

Well it is spring. Time to shake off the winter rust and get out and grasp the warming earth and bathe in the warmth of the sun. Marvel at the cycle of life’s rebirth. Ah… spring.
Of course here in Sequim Wa., the banana belt of the Olympic Peninsula, it’s mid 30s with 3 inches of snow on the ground.

I made it a point to sample various news commentary shows, from the PBS Washington Week in Review, to Meet The Press, et. al. It was interesting to see the degree to which these shows circled the wagon with respect to the astoundingly lame ABC Presidential debates.
The pundit conventional wisdom is that the debate was fine and the questions were wonderful because they revealed who the candidates really were. And apparently the only people who disagreed were bitter Obama supporters.
The only radio or TV pundit who noted the real problems with the debate was NPR’s Daniel Schorr.
On the other hand, Chris Matthews threw out a few interesting poll nuggets. Among Pennsylvania voters, Clinton leads Obama commandingly with respect to hunters, gun owners and bowlers. Other polls suggest that significant numbers of undecided voters lean toward Clinton. And of the more than 150,000 newly registered voters are a significant number of people who switched parties (possible Limbaugh inspired mischief makers, perhaps).
The bottom line is that Clinton may do much better than some have previously predicted, and prolong this mess.
Hell, I watched an episode of Classic Trek on TV, “The Conscience of the King,” about an actor suspected of having been a murderous dictator many years before.
Good times.

I had assumed that cable MSM networks would dedicate this pre-PA primary weekend to ginning up some kind of manufactured controversy about either Clinton or Obama– thankfully the Pope has saved us all. I turned on CNN at some point and they were filming his plane sitting on the tarmac. No actual Pope in sight, they were literally making news of the Pope waiting to deplane. After a few minutes I turned it off. Nothing to see, move along…
Maybe there *is* a chance in PA that the primary won’t happen in the middle of some faux outrage storm. It’s a nice thought anyways.
Rick Taylor
That was a good episode. A rare one, with actual moral ambiguity.

A good illustration as to how tiny the blogosphere is.

Good for you John. Sometimes you need to take a breather for a bit to clear up the mind so you can come back with a fresh outlook on the same old mess.
I am heading up to Spokane, Washington (by motorcycle) on May 1st, and I prefer to head inland from the south Oregon coast (up Hwy. 199 from California up in to Oregon) to Grants Pass/Gold Hill. From there I head up around the north side of Crater Lake to Hwy. 97 and take that up through central Oregon.
I use the ODOT Trip Check road cameras and road info online to check conditions, and they are still snowing all over in central Oregon! One of the road cams (at Tombstone) had to be dug out today because the snow was so deep. There is over 250 inches of it at the summit of Mount Hood!
I went to Spokane in mid-April last year and it was snow free except in the highest places. I don’t mind riding in snow as long as the sun is shining…lol, but I may have to head up the coast to Lincoln City and then over to Portland, then through the Columbia Gorge to Umatilla and up from there to Spokane. Not as much fun as my preferred way, but still a good trip.
Either way, everyone have a great Sunday!

Just flipped to MSNBC for a moment and someone was talking about “the catholicity of the catholic church.”
Huh?
The Other Steve
I watched Senator McNasty on Snuffalupagus, and he really came off bad. The obvious point of attack on Republiconomics is what George pointed out, that they really don’t have a plan. mcNasty talked about spending cuts, and noted like $30 million worth of pork, which Snuffles pointed out is a miniscule part of the budget.
The Other Steve
I also noted there wasn’t a whole lot of talk about PA… Not sure what that means. May not mean anything.
We’ll see. Hillary has to win by 15-20% in order for this to count, so we’ll see if the damage she’s done to Obama in recent weeks is enough.
The Other Steve
As far as the Pope. I ain’t catholic, and I really don’t give a shit who the guy is or what he says.

Which polls are you talking about, myig2nxu?
This poll:
Gallup Daily: 47% Obama, 46% Clinton
or this:
Newsweek: 54% Obama, 35% Clinton
As if we needed any futher proof that polls have become seriously unreliable in this election– pollsters are going to have to figure out a better way than calling landlines and finding random people who are willing to participate.
zoe in pittsburgh
It’s Hillary’s campaign that has raised the bar so high in PA– if she doesn’t win in a BIG way that it’ll look like a loss for her. You can’t blame that one on Obama, as the “experienced” candidate she doesn’t play the expecations game too well.
I used to support Hillary, however, I now support Obama. I like him for who he is and what he stands for, but I also have very serious doubts that Hillary could win in November. The negatives of both her and her husband are just too damn high– remember Clinton fatigue?
I’m also pretty damn tired of the shameless nepotism and dynasty politics in American presidential politics. Obama doesn’t have a bunch of people he has to payback for where he is– Clinton does, as evidenced by most of the PA old-boys-network getting behind her so early.
Vote Obama and just say no to Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton.

I watched Garin and Axelrod on MTP, and Axelrod pwned Garin. Plus he did a very good job of not going over the top on him, which made it all the better because he could have ripped him to shreds. Garin was stammering, hemming and hawing throughout the interview, and he sounded like a complete n00b. Axelrod kept up the pressure without coming off as overbearing. Almost like he felt sorry for Garin and the position he was in.
I loved it when Axelrod asked Garin to find one example of Hillary talking against NAFTA prior to the primaries. All Garin could stammer out was that it was said in private discussions, which made it sound phony as hell. Overall, it was a great interview for Axelrod and I can imagine that more than a few people at Monsters, Inc. are disappointed with Garin.

In case there’s anyone out there who still cares about finger-gate, this post here contains further links to all you need. Short version is Taylor Marsh, No Quarter, and Red State all put up a video purporting to show Obama giving Hillary Clinton the finger. Further pictures showing a different angel reveal he had two fingers up, not one. This lead to mea culpas on all three blogs as they sheepishly confessed that the heat of the campaign lead them to go a little crazy. Hahahaha, no of course it didn’t, that last sentence was a joke, I wish the rest was. Over at Taylor Marsh, the commenters are still ranting about it. A typical post was,
Anyway, back to your pleasant weekends.

Rick,
Thankfully I was out of town for finger-gate. They have completely lost it.
I am really trying to remind myself that this is silly season and that I can’t get too worked up over this idiocy but No Quarter and Taylor Marsh are clearly willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I wonder what is going to happen when Hillary wins PA by 10 points but only gains about 7 delegates?
The Other Steve
Oh come on, only states that went for Obama don’t count.
Still, even if Clinton does well in Pennsylvania. Where does she pick up the other 150 delegates she’ll need to get into the lead?
The Other Steve
Easy. They will declare it the beginning of the end.
Although I think in just the past week Obama has picked up 7 superdelegates, so I’m not sure exactl how this is going to help Hillary.
myiq2xu
Easy – When the so-called “superdelegates” realize that Obama’s real name is Barack Mondale Dukakis Obama, they will come running to Hillary’s side.
Ned R.
John’s original post describes my last weekend — when I came back from Seattle I was all, “‘Bitter’ controversy? What?”
flyerhawk
myiq2xu,
So you think that 80% of the SuperDelegates are going to go for Hillary, despite the fact that she has been losing SDS since Feb 5th?
What is the color of the sky in your world?
myiq2xu
First of all, you mean “remaining superdelegates.” Secondly, the SD’s don’t vote until August.
Obama is a fad, the political equivilent of the “Achy -Breaky Heart” or the “Macarena”
By August he’ll be as popular as Big Mouth Billy Bass.
The Grand Panjandrum
Clinton got the endorsement of her new buddy Richard Mellon Scaife. The VRWC loves them some HRC.

I love how myiq’s only source for information throughout this entire thread has been Talk Left. It’s like a wingnut troll constantly referring to NewsMax or the Washington Times.
Because, you know, those are the only unbiased sources that can be trusted.
flyerhawk
myiq2xu,
That was a remarkable deflection. You’re right. I did mean remaining delegates.
How many Obama delegates have defected to the Clinton campaign?
By August this race will be over. Done. Finished. Kaput. If Hillary is holding out hope for a convention coup she is heading for a rude awakening.
It amazes me how the Hillary supporters are simply incapable of offering a cogent hypothetical in which Hillary can win which does not include a floor fight at the convention, which is NOT going to happen.
Conservatively Liberal
Hillary has embraced the VRWC and its leader because she has created the VLWC using MoveOn and party activists as the new scapegoats (you can stop drooling GoatBoy, a scapegoat is not a real goat). She has embraced the right and pissed on the left.
Reading the Hillary Compost Centers on the web and I note the talking point that GoatBoy drug in here is the hot meme being pushed by the Clinton Camp. Also, I read that internal Clinton numbers are claimed to be her by +10 in PA, which would be half of the lead of what she had coming in to PA. The drive now is to lower expectations and position the goal posts for Tuesday, so they are pushing Obama must win or at least tie her ‘to stay in’ and if she beats him by 5% then it is a landslide.
That way when she gets her +10, everyone can marvel at how she pulled off the HUGE victory. Of course, you have to ignore the 20% she had coming in to PA to do this, so positioning the goal posts is essential to spreading the meme. I think Obama will keep the spread below 10, and I am hoping for an upset but I think that will be unlikely. But if it happens I won’t complain one bit.
Still, I unless Obama stumbles or the supers hand it to her, this is over. I hope PA is the final nail in the coffin for her campaign. Hillary was right, this was decided on February 5th. She just refuses to concede.
Reading the loonier posts by the Clintonistas is entertaining, but I really hate to see some of these people saying the stupid shit they do. Some of the stuff they say is pretty reprehensible, but in a way you almost feel sorry for their detachment from reality.
Almost.

Pb
I do think that a 12 point win in PA would be good news for Hillary now. I don’t think it’d be nearly as big a win as she’d need, delegate-wise, but it’d be a big win. I also don’t think she’ll win PA by 12 points. Maybe 8 points. But if she can’t win it by at least 5 points, that’ll definitely be bad news for her. Now let’s see what the outcome is, and see how it gets spun; but afterwards, you can look up this post, because that’s my analysis, and I’m sticking to it.
Martin
Hillary needs to do better than 12%. 12 points only gets her 9-12 delegates. That might have some sway with the supers and get a bit of income coming in, but the March numbers are in tonight and she’s in trouble. Obama ended March $42M cash on hand for primaries with
Martin
Neat. I have no idea how that got submitted like that.
Anyway…
Obama ended March $42M cash on hand for primaries with $1M in debt, Clinton $8M COH for primaries with $10M in debt. Clinton is just running up the credit card now.
Ultimately with the supers its going to come down to where they see themselves with each candidate. Clinton is big money/machine politics DLC, Obama small money/grass roots DNC. Money rules and DLC is getting its ass kicked as well it should.
Martin
Anyone else notice this? Looking at TalkLeft and Mydd and similar sites – I see nothing but people talking about Obama. Not well, mind you, but no evidence of phonebanking, walking districts, not even many positive diaries and such about Clinton.
I see lots of talk about middle fingers and sexism and polls and such, but are the Clinton supporters actually *doing* anything, or just hanging out online talking about shit? Or am I just spoiled at DKos and most of the Obama leaning sites are equally vacuous?
Martin
I like how the Clinton supporters keep trying to condense the entire nation into Pennsylvania – that if Obama can’t win PA that he’s a failure, almost as if the other states, I don’t know, don’t matter….
For those that have lost track, Obama has won 30 states. Clinton 14.
Conservatively Liberal

March madness numbers are in!
How did Obama do?
Obama pulled in almost $43 million in March and had cash on hand of almost $39 million, so he had just over $81.6 million in March. His expenses for March were $30 million, leaving just over $51 million in cash on hand at the end of the month. His unpaid bills were less than $700 thousand. Obama has brought in almost $234 million in this campaign.
So I would say that Obama is doing just fine, and I am glad to have helped! :D
How did Hillary do?
Well, she brought in almost $21 million in March and had cash on hand of just over $33 million, so she had just over $54 million in March. Her expenses for March were just over $22 million, leaving almost $32 million in cash on hand at the end of the month. Her unpaid bills were just over $10 million. Hillary has brought in $172 million in this campaign.
From what I have read, Hillary may have brought in only $8 million for the primary and $12 million for the general in March. Or reverse those numbers, there is some confusion about them but Camp Clinton said that $8 million of it was for the primary, so I will go with that.
Either way, most of the cash on hand at the beginning of the month was money for the general, and 60% of what she raised in March is only for the general. So as near as I can figure, she is broke and in the hole right now. From what I gather, her loan is not included in the outstanding debt total. In other words, she has been running on fumes.
Over $10 million in unpaid bills?! With all of the ads she is running now, she has to be skipping on the other bills to pay for airtime she is burning up. That is a lot of people getting put on hold for their cash, that is for sure. I can see why Hillary delayed reporting this until the last second, it looks pretty bad for her right now and releasing this earlier would have killed off her fund raising for April.
Her campaign is roadkill, and someone needs to come scrape her off the road so we can get on with electing a Democrat for president. Obama has outperformed her in just about every single aspect of this campaign that matters and the super delegates would be stupid to ignore that. But I won’t put anything past the party people. They have always seemed most capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
This race was hers to lose, and she has lost. Game, set, match.
Rick Taylor
And how was this headlined on Talk Left?
Of course Obama is in trouble losing the popular vote in Ohio and Texas and presumably in Pennsylvania when he’s outspending Cliton by so much.

PeterJ
Forgot to ask myiq2xu, since he as a Clinton supporter knows everything about states counting and not counting.
When would Pennsylvania not count any more? If Obama would win more delegates, if he would win the popular vote, or if he would win both?
If the voters in Pennsylvania reject Clinton, would that make them bitter?
