No one can drive me to the brink of madness like the Clinton family. No one.
I just looked through all my posts from yesterday, and it really is funny. I woke up early, had my coffee (gourmet with cinnamon, because I am an elitist), got in a good work-out, read the morning papers and websites, made two posts unrelated to Clinton, and started to examine some new software I want to use, and then I made my mistake.
I turned on CNN. Within a few hours, I heard numerous Clinton surrogates babbling about who had worked harder most recently and the unfairness of not seating MI/FL, and on and on and on. I saw an interview of Geraldine Ferraro in full outrage mode because Obama appears to look at Clinton funny in a photograph and because he brushed dirt off his shoulders at a campaign event. And then we learned that Hillary plans to take this fight to the convention.
And then, once again, the only family who can do this to me, had managed to push me yet again into unholy madness. It is mind-numbing. This isn’t an election anymore. This is a secret bet between Bill and Hillary ala Trading Places in which they bet how much bullshit they can make the electorate swallow.
Then the Florida 2000 poison– another bucket.
And then the suffrage nonsense– yet another bucket.
And the co-option of the Civil Rights era after weeks of transparent appeals that whites won’t vote for the black guy which JUST SO COINCIDENTALLY took form during the Appalachian primaries (which conveniently occurred after North Carolina, the last state with a large black population)- buckets of bullshit over your head, in your face.
And then Zimbabwe remarks, a bucket of bullshit so stupid that her audience probably didn’t even understand it (I would kill to see video of the people in the audience during that).
It just never stops.
I know I am not a perfect person, but I like to think of myself as a good person. I am profane, I over-react, I say stupid things and sometimes mean things and then calm down and apologize, but I always try to be fair and try to do the right thing and try to give people the benefit of the doubt and I believe in forgiving people for their mistakes. I will always listen to people, even when I disagree with them.
But no one, and I mean no one, has the ability to drive me so completely into madness like Team Clinton the past few months. Their non-stop nonsense just drives me insane as it dumbs down the rest of the electorate. Listening to Clinton the past few months is for me what listening to right-wingers claim that Iraq was going to use remote-controlled flying vehicles to bomb us with chemical weapons and all the rest of the bullshit in the run up to the war was for the DFHer’s.
We are told we must count all the votes, over and over and over again, when it was the Clinton campaign who intended to lock this all up by February and didn’t care about the rest the states enough to organize there and whose campaign told us for months that certain states don’t count and whose ONLY path to victory is to pretend they have the popular vote by NOT counting the caucus state votes and not counting all the people who voted uncommitted in the unsanctioned Michigan election and by seating the Florida delegation that HER people at the DNC chose to sanction and on and on and on and the bullshit just keeps coming so thick and so fast and without pause that she has well and truly driven me to utter unholy madness.
The only consolation is that I am not alone. Steve Benen, the Carpetbagger, is done. Atrios is disgusted. Tbogg is states he has never seen such a level of “intellectual dishonesty, disregard for reality on the ground, and shamelessnes” and is comparing her to Lieberman. Even Hilzoy, one of the most decent people to ever pen a blog post, is in full-on ridicule mode. Most people are looking at this train wreck, and the collective response is “WTF?” The talking heads on all of the channels are now verging on open mockery.
Just make it stop, please.

I am begging you. Make it stop.
I am going to do everything in my power to ignore the Clinton campaign today, for mental health reasons. Dear God, please don’t let her compare herself to Ghandi today. I need a break.
cleek
oh, she won’t compare herself to Ghandi. after all, Ghandi knew how to pump gas, but straight shootin, farm girl Hillary hasn’t pumped her own gas in years.

I refuse to watch anything with Clinton.
But a commenter in Steve Benen’s post shared this.

And before any Clinton trolls say that posting that video means that John advocates violence against women, I’m the one who pointed the video out to him in the first place.
And no, I’m not turning in my va-jay-jay for being a Traitor to Feminism(tm). I have uses for it.

Ickes just said he wants MI uncommitted delegates to remain uncommitted. So, that is… They’re going to vote to strip MI of all it’s delegates, then Clinton will be the only person on the ballot, then we’ll just say we should get all the delegates from it because no one else was on the ballot! Brilliant!
Billy K
Sexist!

Take heart. This is how unworthy politicians die–not with dignity, but flailing around with ever-increasing desperation. Hillary reminds me of Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd. Even her former supporters are embarrassed for her. Once Bush is out of power and can do no more harm, I fully intend to watch his humiliations with glee.
montysano
And then…… through no fault of yours at all, you find yourself near a TV, or a radio, and you hear……. that voice. That voice, it’s like “a bandsaw cutting galvanized tin” (Kurt Vonnegut??).
I took it to mean that women’s faces should be veiled at all times. Dammit, has Hillary driven John to the Sharia?
Zifnab
Wasn’t everyone talking about how the media was going to start ignoring the Clintons after Oregon, because she had well and truly lost the nomination already? Fuck a duck, this is a train wreck. I’d almost want to say the media keeps eyeballing it because train wrecks are hard to look away from, but this goes one step further. It is Schroedinger’s Train Wreck, continuing to pile up specifically because more people are paying attention to it.
Everyone needs to turn off their TVs, put down their newspapers, and stop collapsing the wave forms of the Clinton Family.
Rick Taylor
You certainly aren’t. I’ve gone from being mildly supportive of Clinton to complete slack-jawed horror.
Good luck. I recommend pulling the plug on your tv and your computer.

Hopefully her latest bat shit crazy stunts will finally make most of supporters see where she’s heading.
Maybe this is how she’s going to heal the rift she’s created? By going bat shit insane.

That’s OK, Krista. You’re just self-hating and buying into the patriarchy.:) I read more women of color feminist blogs now. They actually make SENSE and do not make mountains out of molehills.
Anyway, I think its a good idea to take a break from focusing the Clinton campaign. Its not good for you or anyone with, at least, half a brain. Its seriously bringing down my energy and the thoughts I have about it are taking me to a dark place.
I will raise up my positive energy and send some your way as well, John.
Anyway, fellow Balloon Juice people, just think of this madness as the roar of old dinosaurs as they die. (To borrow from Rob Breszney)

Sad.
Clinton started out as a pretty good candidate. I still like her health care plan better than Obama’s, although both candidates would/will have a tough time getting either through Congress. And she’s been a good Senator in New York, and got herself elected through hard work and shrewd politics.
But something cracked somewhere along the line as it became increasingly obvious that she felt entitled to the nomination and the Presidency. When the coronation didn’t go as planned, it suddenly became clear to me how people could have such strongly negative feelings about the woman.
Sad.
PS: If we’re going to use Monty Python metaphors, I think Clinton’s campaign is more like the old man in the “Bring out your Dead” sketch at the beginning of the film.

John, this will cheer you up:
Al Giordano uses facts and math to show that Obama gets the nomination even if MI & FL are given 100% to Hillary.
He thinks that Obama will cunningly let Hillary rant and rant and rant and rant on this, pissing off her remaining prominent supporters who aren’t totally batshit insane, and then, when he is within hailing distance of the nomination anyway, pull the rug out from under her by graciously calling for both states to be seated.
So in the end, by allowing her to alienate her last key supporters by ranting about Zimbawbwe and other things that have nothing to do with the primary season, he’s making sure that she pisses her key folks off enough to start working for him doubly and triply hard in order to undo the crap of the past six months.

I’m seeing something like Nixon ’62, but only something much funnier – the complete self-deconstruction of a phony political whore.
It’s like Greek tragedy, only instead of hoping that Oedipus comes to his senses before it’s too late you wind up praying that she just keeps keeping on, hitting a new self-pitying high every day. The possibilities are almost limitless – Jeanne d’Arc, Mary Magdalene, Iphigenia, Evita and not least of all my personal favorite, given the circumstances – Little Eva (with Michele Obama as Topsy).
The expression ‘political theater’ is one of the worst clichés we have – but now it’s finally come. I’m willing to donate money to her campaign to keep the show running.

Over at LarryJohnson’s House of Krazy, one commenter assures us that the Obama campaign will be blown up tomorrow amid published reports detailing that Obama is, in fact, actually a……. communist.
But on the other hand Limbaugh is having a blast on the Radio today urging Hillary to stand up against the disenfranchisement of FL and MI and keep fighting for the righteousness of her cause. Apparently it’s a civil rights issue.
PeterJ
Obama gives all of MI & FL to Clinton. Then Clinton heads for the super delegates and pledged delegates, trying to get them to change their vote. Clinton backers have already tried to buy delegates.
libarbarian
JOSH MARSHALL puts it best:
For months naive Democrats have said “Shes not trying to hurt Obama. She just really wants to win”. Well, Bull Fucking Shit!
Josh has it exactly right – SHE IS TRYING TO POISON THE WELL. She is NOT trying to win. She is trying to get her supporters to feel resentful so they will not vote for the Obama. She half-heatedly can say “Vote for Obama” in public all she wants but her REAL message to her supporters is “Punish the party for rejecting me! Punish Obama for humiliating me!”

I really think that John should seek out some anti-anxiety meds or something. Kos and Atrios too if they feel the same way.
This whole primary thing will have worked its way out in a week or two, what is all this hullabaloo really about? Are you honestly so afraid that the superdelegates will snap to their senses in the next couple of weeks and realize that Obama isn’t the right man for the job?
Somehow I doubt that is going to happen. Even if the urban ledgend ‘Michelle Obama Whitey’ tape become reality I doubt that the supers would pull their support at this point. You can tell that just by the media narrative faux question of ‘Will the super delegates take the nomination away from Obama?’
Ofcourse it completely ignores the fact that Obama hasn’t even won the nomination yet. The vote for who gets the nomination doesn’t even happen until August.
So just relax a bit man. Everything is going to work out for you and your unity pony. For good or bad Obama will get the nomination, but all of this spazzing out by so many of his supporters isn’t doing him any favors. It only shows how personal this is for you (not about issues or qualifications) and how afraid you are of the Clintons (apparently you believe they are smarter than your unity pony).
John Cole
Anyone who cedes Florida and Michigan to Clinton needs their head examined. They were not sanctioned elections, period. They should not determine the outcome of the race, period.
I am ok with them working out an agreement to seat the delegates for the notion of party unity, but not so that they make a difference. Not only were they not fair, legitimate elections, but Michigan will just fucking do it again in 2012. This is, after all the third election in a row they have pulled this shit, and there will be nothing the DNC chair can do to stop it with this precedent established.
That is what is so bad about what Clinton is doing- not only is she screwing with this election, but she is taking a sledgehammer to the framework for all FUTURE elections.
But she has to do it, because DON’T YOU KNOW SHE HAS A VAGINA AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS- THAT WE HAVE A VAGINA IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

I’m actually getting around to the idea of offering Hillary the VP slot. She’s the best assassination insurance Obama can get.

What exactly is it that Hillary is doing? Continueing the campaigning until the rules say she has lost? If you haven’t noticed the rules say that Obama hasn’t won yet. He doesn’t have the number of delegates to assure himself the nomination.
As far as changing the rules of the game the Obama supporters are just as guilty when they say that if Obama wins the pledged delegate count the unpledged have no business throwing the election to Clinton. Those aren’t the rules, the rules say the unpledged have the right to vote for whomever they choose.

Until he does, and even after, it is a world of fun mocking the KaWaks of the world and their malignant rhetoric. Think of it as an early detection and treatment before the bullshit you guys propagate turns into urban legend.

The most stupid thing about the super delegates is that they are able to change their mind. This means that a candidate can drag this all the way to the convention while trying to bribe/extort/whatever to make them change their mind.
(True, a pledged delegate can change their vote too, but trying to flip a lot of them would have a lot more negative consequences than flipping super delegates)

it’s not over until the convention. it never is. the only difference is that most hopeless candidates have the good sense to get out once the outcome becomes obvious: they respect the party and its goals, and they don’t want to embarrass themselves. but this time, we have a candidate, who is apparently even more lawyerly than her “meaning of ‘is'” husband, who sees a legal (if implausible) way to get the nomination; and she’s going to doggedly explore that avenue, and the next and the next, (as they become necessary) until they all dead end, or she runs out of time.
maybe that’s an admirable quality in a lawyer. but she’s her own client, this time.

The only other person in the race CANNOT get enough delegates to win the nomination. Obama can. Its over. This is when rational candidates step aside and let the vote leader get the rest of the votes and begin to represent the whole party.
crw
Bingo. Obama’s pulling an epic rope-a-dope on Clinton. See, the Clintons’ biggest political advantage has always been their ability to drive their foes crazy with epic bullshit, thus causing said foes to overreach.
All Obama needs to do is sit back and occasionally suggest he’s open to reasonable but ‘unacceptable’ compromises like seating the delegations at half strength. Meanwhile, Clinton gets more and more unhinged trying to provoke an overreach. The longer this goes on, the more likely even her staunch supporters are going to have ‘Schiavo moments’ and get off the derailing train. Then the hammer will drop on May 31st. A compromise will be found. The Florida and Michigan parties will agree to it. It will not in any meaningful way tilt things for Clinton.

It is rather strange… I can understand Edwards performing best solely because of name-recognition, but I’m not sure why some of Obama’s other picks look like such drags… Sebelius, for instance, seems to pull Obama way down in the polling. Patently untrue. There are still enough uncommitted unpledged delegates out there to give Clinton the election. The arguement the Obots have made is that the unpledged delegates should rally around the winner of the pledged delegates. Which certainly isn’t in the rules.
shera
This would be a great opportunity for John to catch up on all remaining episodes of BSG so that we can openly discuss HOW FUCKING AWESOME Season 4 has been in comments. Such a discussion would take us to the convention, no?
As for Clinton, this election totally demonstrates how unsuited she is for electoral politics. Her mindset’s not one of a candidate, but rather of a staffer or insider, and that’s to be expected because that’s what she’s been her entire career. Her election to the Senate wasn’t as result of her own skills as a politician, but that doesn’t bother me because most politicians are elected because of a combination of nepotism and their ability to connect with voters. I once read that she would make a great Chief of Staff, and agree. Unfortunately, she’s not a natural politician in a system that requires candidates to be great politicians, not competent ones. Also, inopportune statements and offensive hyperbole have been a hallmark of Hillary Clinton’s public life. Her commencement speech (yes, shout out to the alma mater!) included an inappropriate attack on Senator Brooke. While in Arkansas, during an election, she showed up at a press conference held by one of Bill’s opponents and read a series of allegations against him. She played Rick Lazio’s step toward her during their debate as some sort of attempted assault during her initial Senate run. None of what she’s doing now is surprising at all – I think we’re all so desperate for her to get out of the race that we’re overreacting every time she says something stupid. We’ve got to stay cool and wait her out. If we could spend this time speculating about who the final Cylon is instead, we would all be much happier.
Genine
Actually, I think Kwawk, might be right about the numbers. Last I looked there were over 200 uncommitted SD’s, enough to give Clinton the win at the 2025 number. (You know… the number she disputes and claims to be illegitimate?)
But I seriously doubt that will happen. I don’t think all of sudden over 200 SD’s will pledge their support for Clinton.
I don’t think they’ll do anything that dumb.

The problem isnt the campaign. The problem is that she is trying, and somewhat asucceeding, is starting a dolchstosslegende about her loss.
I’m sorry but WAKE THE FUCK UP! She is not trying to win. She is trying to ruin Obama. Its that simple.

I will say it once more. She is acting like a Republican because she is a Republican. That’s why she kept praising McCain and bad-mouthing Obama. This is all about bloodying Obama for November. She got the same memo as Limbaugh. Or maybe she read it to him. I’m not sure how the hierarchy works on that side.
The Other Steve
And Cult-Hillary thinks the super delegates should just all rally behind Hillary because she says so.
and I know for a fact, THAT IS NOT IN THE RULES.
cleek
oops. math was off a little there. there are 86 state dels to be won. so she has a little wiggle room!
The Other Steve
And like 50 of those remaining are Puerto Rico.
Which just baffles me. How the hell did a territory get so many bloody delegates? According to kos, they have more delegates than half the states.
and they can’t vote in the election!
The Other Steve
AMEN!
Genine
Thanks, Cleek, for clearing that up. I’m way behind on my delegate numbers.
kwAwk
libarbarian Says:
lol Wake up? I’m wide awake and would agree with you that Clinton is no longer trying to win this election. But the idea of a ‘dolchstosslegende’ is exactly what rocketed Obama to victory. It is the notion of blacks that it was somehow their turn and that Bill and Hillary had somehow ‘stabbed them in the back’ by commenting on the ratio of black vote for Obama that lead to a 90% turnout for Obama among the black community in many states.
What Hillary is doing is setting up the electorate for the next woman to run. Perhaps to set that woman up to recieve 85% of the women’s vote across the board.
But in the end she’ll back out of the race ‘gracefully’ in early June and the unity pony can have his moment. Then he’ll have the hard work of convincing people who aren’t black or upscale liberals to vote for him.
les
Hey, the quacker got one right. Per GOS, the shrill one only has to pick up 246 out of 297 unpledged delegates, while not having any of her own get terminally disgusted and switch. Unfortunately, abstract math doesn’t always work out in the real world.
libarbarian
I think you are naive.
She will make a public show of “gracefully” exiting and work behind the scenes to hurt Obama and help McCain.
PeterJ
I can’t wait for Clinton to start pandering in Puerto Rico. She’ll promise them statehood if they vote for her, if not, then they won’t count.
Genine
WTF? That is completely idiotic! This is NOT about it being “someone’s turn”. What the hell? Are we in pre-school! Is there some big invisible teacher supervising recess telling us “OK, now its Barry’s turn. Let Barry play with that. You go next Hilly.” I mean jeez.
Also, let’s note that Hillary had the MAJORITY of the AA vote. SHE lost it! And it wasn’t ONE fucking comment that did it, either. It was her entire campaign! The AA vote was hers to lose. A part of the reason why she lost it was her sense of fucking entitlement!
And she is NOT setting anything up for a woman to win next time. How the fuck can you think she is doing any of this for the next women to win? This is about her and her need to make history. I have been very understanding of this. I think she’s doing some fucked up shit, but I do my best not to judge her for it. (I slide sometimes, but I get back on track.)
Hillary’s campaign is about Hillary. Or, the best thing I can say about it is, she is on some misguided trip to “save us from ourselves.” Both things are bullshit though.
I have you give you props though, because I am amazed that you have enough brain activity to be able to type.

For those who haven’t already seen it, I’ll link to the YouTube sketch of “Hillary’s Downfall”, which is a very funny take on “Downfall” about Hitler and his last days in a Berlin bunker.

How about:
So, she’s comparing the FL and MI primaries, which she at one time agreed should not count, to the elections in Zim-fucking-babwe? She’s suggesting that those fine folks in FL, if their unfortunately meaningless votes are not counted, might want to go vote for that doddering loser McCain?
That’s what she did. Or rather, that’s just one in a long list of despicable things she’s done. And this comes from someone who, just over a year ago, stood on a street in Selma and cheered for her sorry ass.

I am SO SICK of hearing about this “what about all the blacks voting for Obama? That’s racist!” bullshit. BLACK PEOPLKE HAVE VOTED IN A BLOC FOR DECADES. Everyone knows that. And the last 3 dem nominees for President (Clinton, Gore & Kerry) all got the same percentage of the black vote. The difference this year is that one of the Dem nominees has been openly hostile & insulting to the black community, which is why that person is now tanking with them.
Of much more interest to me, however, is that white women have now turned into a monolithic votinbg bloc, but that, for some reason, is just fine. WTF?

She is exactly like LIEberman. Has been since before the campaign. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her run as an “independent.”
libarbarian
If anyone here thinks that the Democratic party can ever again let any Clinton have any real power within the party without a resulting purge they are sadly mistaken.
Hillary has a long memory and an unforgiving heart. If she EVER gets the chance to take revenge on the Democratic pols who supported Obama – she will take her revenge … party interests be damned. Putting Hillary in ANY meaingful position of power will be suicide for anyone who publicly backed Obama. Every chance she gets will be used to obstruct or harm the “traitors” within her party.
I know I am shouting into the wind on this, but Hillary may still be a Democrat in name but, like Lieberman, Hillary now considers most of the party to be “traitors”. She is filled with hate against anyone who helped assist what she feels is a coup against her and if she ever gets the chance she will make them pay. It is in the interests of self-preservation that every Democrat who is not 100% on board with her act, when possible, to absolutely oppose giving her ANY position of power or authority within the party.
scottiex2
The long campaign and the knowledge that she has lost has caused her to breakdown.
We are very lucky that she will not make it to the presidency now that we know how
disturbed and fragile her psyche is.
I am feeling sorry for her and hoping above all, that she keeps her clothes on.

You didn’t happen to be in Seattle for the comic book convention a couple weekends ago, did you? Because there was a panel on editorial cartoonists, and Seattle PI cartoonist David Horsey made the exact same Holy Grail reference in relation to HRC & O.

.
Yet another idiotic argument! Its news to me that blacks somehow have the notion its their turn. Funny, that she started out with a substantial black support and a lot of prominent black politicians in her camp.
I did not know you had a personal hotline to her highness.
She has never said that she is setting up the electorate for the next woman. Set up that imaginary woman to receive 85% of the woman vote! That is one lofty goal!
You are an idiot! Confirmed. And yes I am a secret Bush supporter. As well an an alien from Mars.

The portion that voted for Bush twice?

Heh.
Point for empty.

Unfortunately, that might be a common misconception in Hillaryland. If I was the gambling type, I’d bet that it was the Democratic women who made those signs.
Amen to that. I think she’s making it more difficult for the next woman – because the next woman may have to convince people that she’s not going to make such a mess of it.

Yeah, if I had to pinpoint the one trait that, above all, defines the African-American community, I’d have to go with “a truly galling sense of entitlement.”

Project much jackass? The only one who has acted entitled this entire campaign are Hillary and her supporters, complete with pity parties for themselves and playing the victim when they don’t get their way.

You Obama supporters can’t give it up, even when you have won. Couldn’t you show a little class, like Obama, and just be happy?
Here is what I think of you. You are exactly like this crowd in “Holy Grail”.

Already the media and the Rethugs are taking up the misogynist theme you started with their attacks on Michelle Obama. I hope you are proud of yourselves.

OK, I’ll be accepting that gift card now.
Some Clinton supporters are filing suit to make the FL election count….
…using provisions of the Voting Rights Act as their argument. Yes, the purpose of the act was to take the nomination away from an African American who won according to the rules. Not only is this an act that will cause most people’s irony circuits to overload, but it’s not even a correct interpretation of the act. The purpose of the law was to make sure that everyone had equal access to the voting booth, so you can only really sue under this to delegitimatize an election, not to force a party to accept the results.
Delia
This is such bullshit. Obama won 52% of the female vote in Oregon according to the “exit” polls. That’s because we don’t like dishonest lying liars and the lying lies they tell in these parts.
And a big shout-out to Bernarda for another totally illogical hit-and-run post. See above.
libarbarian
No, I can’t be that classy when we’re dealing with a psychopathic taint who has no class herself.

Phoebes—
Thanks for the link. I love “Downfall”. This is better.
“My supporters are the dumbest fucks in the country.”
“The voters have stolen my nomination.”
Classic stuff.

Would it show a lack of class to tell you to go fuck yourself with a cactus?

It likely was her turn, but it’s his time.

The rude pundit brings some examples from the past, back when Obama ran a national ad that showed in Florida as well.

I gotta send “Downfall” to my son and even my ex. Now that’s true forgiveness.

But Rachel Maddow and others make the point that it is in Obama’s best interest to get everything wrapped up before the issue of MI and FL gets taken up by the rules committee, which would delay a final resolution of this issue until the convention.
So Obama has to secure the nomination by enough delegate votes so that even if he grants all the FL and MI delegates to Clinton, it could not possibly alter the outcome, and then make sure that there is nothing further to debate or make a deal over at the Convention. And to test their loyalty, he should then compel Clinton and her husband to campaign hard for him in advance of the convention, with a special emphasis on making Clinton bring her supporters around.
Otherwise, you get this: Senator Clinton is trying to back Obama into a corner. On the one hand, Team Clinton is relentlessly churning out alternative readings of the primary results (all of which ignore the rules previously agreed upon) which would give her the nomination, and is also whipping up a frenzy among her maenads by depicting any opposition to her inevitable nomination as the sexist workings of a vast Misogynist Conspiracy. Here, if Obama refuses to capitulate, her supporters threaten to bolt from the Democrats and vote for McCain, insuring Obama’s defeat.
But even if she cannot wrest the nomination from him, she can try to force him to offer her the VP slot, suggesting that this is the only thing that would mollify her most vociferous supporters. The irony here is that it is not a slam dunk that Clinton could pull the same amount of support if she is in the Number 2 spot on the ticket, and by keeping herself in play for a VP slot, she might even be blocking a far better candidate, such as Webb or Sebelius.
So far, every pundit who has predicted that Senator Clinton would become more moderate in her criticisms of the party and of Obama if she were allowed to finish the primary race has woefully underestimated the degree of mischief that Senator Clinton is willing to cause if everyone will not bend to her will.
As Bush and McCain have ironically pointed out, though this was obviously not their intent, it is dangerous to seek to appease Clinton by offering her MI and Fl and hoping that she will then back down and not ask for more.
Her challenges must be shown to be shown to be without merit and summarily dismissed, her claim to the nomination must be denied, and she must be held accountable for the damage and confusion that she has caused to the Democrats’ chances in November.
Evilbeard
I wonder if Pluk and Myiq2xu have seen the light and extreme embarrassment are keeping them from defending Hilary any longer.
I know I know, pipe dream. =P
Chuck Butcher
kwAwk,
You complete ass, we know he’ll win the nomination short of some complete disaster, it’s the goddam General Election that she’s screwing with. She is setting up to freeze her supporters – turn them into stay homes or McCain votes. It may not be deliberate, her short term thinking is notorious, but the effect is the same. By convincing her radical supporters that the election was somehow stolen from her they will not gather behind the Democratic nominee that is not her.
Idjit, the DNC was going to deal with FL/MI 5/31 without HRC’s interference. The DNC is not suicidal nor can it just let go what FL/MI pulled. What HRC is doing is upping the ante to the point that DNC and supers may have to slap her real hard. It is not her goddam business, it is the business of DNC, she has no vested say in the rules though they will attempt to be nice. If you go look at any of the comments on the Hilloon sites you will find absolute untruths as common currency and all about how this election was stolen. This crap is really bad and could cost hugely in the GE and we all lose if that is so.
If you think this will work out for Hillary you are crazy and if you think it will help the cause of women you are beyond crazy. This kind of brinksmanship politics never works out, even if you gain in the short run you make yourself determined and ruthless enemies with it. All the parties involved are powerful people with reputations and long memories – and worse – a public that they measure closely. Your complete ignorance is betrayed by what you write and the way you think. If you want to think your opinions have weight you need to watch politics closely inside and out and make statements that reflect knowledge.
If you want to take a stand from a position of strength you never ever go to the “nuclear” option. It is a threat of “I’ll beat the shit out of you if you don’t…” and no person responds to this well and powerful people with the ability to make you pay will make you pay. If you think the professional politicians don’t recognize this crap when it is done to them you have a very low opinion of them and few of them see it as a winning strategy.
crw
I may be mistaken, but since she’s not a resident of MI or FL, I believe Hillary has *no* standing to appeal any decisions the RBC makes. Basically, she’ll need to pressure one of the parties to appeal (or get state residents to appeal the decision). But since it’s very likely the delegations will be seated in one form or another, it would be very transparently obvious that this was a Clinton ploy to kneecap Obama.
Of course there’s no end to the bullshit Clinton will spew, so it could happen, but I highly doubt any but the crazified dead enders will go along once her ‘disenfranchisement’ bullshit gets thrown out the window. Most especially, the SDs will not play along. They aren’t stupid, and they have a strong sense of political self preservation. They aren’t going down with the HMS Clintanic. In the hypothetical worst case scenario where she manages some how to drag this out, I expect retribution would come quick, and you would see plenty of her former backers jumping ship.
As Chuck Butcher says, if she goes this route her career in Democratic politics is very likely over. She can try, but I bet her base will dwindle through the summer as it becomes obvious that A) she’s batshit insane and B) McCain is a terrible candidate who Obama can trounce and C) McCain is anathema to anyone who believes in a progressive agenda. By the time August roles around, she’ll be laughed out of the convention.
Right now, though, it’s vital that the party maintain the appearance of a fair process. That’s why we aren’t seeing movement now, even though these tantrums are painful and are whipping her base into a frenzy. It’s necessary to play strictly by the rules and give her lots of rope, that way when the boom finally falls most will go along with the decision. Have a little faith in Obama and his team. They’ve gotten this far in beating the biggest name in Democratic politics, so I think they know what they’re doing. :)
Brachiator
Everything that Senator Clinton has been doing since West Virginia has been transparently obvious, and it is not slowing her down.
I presume that even if she lacks standing to make any appeal, she will easily find surrogates to do the work for her.
Unless Obama and the Democratic leadership do an end run around which allows Senator Clinton to finish running in the last primaries, but make sure that she cannot do anything to make a phony challenge to the nomination process.

Krista, Genine –
I’m rather pasty myself, but I do enjoy Jack and Jill.
The problems with the lawsuit are more fundamental than that. Rep. Nelson already tried suing the DNC over this primary last fall, and his case was dismissed only an hour into the hearing. So we’ve got a first-rate situation of stare decisis, i.e., it’s already been decided. And the reason the case was thrown out is that the Voting Rights Act doesn’t cover political parties’ selection processes. Period.
Genine
I never read that one before. It looks pretty interesting. I’ll have to check it out.
I started reading WOC blogs because some other blogs were “periodically” pissing me off with their stupidity. Made my “claws” want to come out! But I know I have a terrible temper so I had to “geld” it.
I decided to brush it off, play some Jay-Z, and moved on.
