O (Omicron) from Romain Tardy (AntiVJ) on Vimeo.
A permanent installation directed by Romain Tardy & Thomas Vaquié at the Hala Stulecia, Wroclaw, Poland.
When opened, Hala Stulecia was the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world. With a diameter of 65m it was home to the largest dome built since the Pantheon in Rome eighteen centuries earlier.
The piece proposed for the Centennial Hall of Wroclaw is based around the notion of timelessness in architecture, and the idea of what future has meant throughout the 20th century.

Architorture pr0n? Did you get a bad dose of Xanax again?

Phoo. One of the neighborhood skunks just walked past the (open) dining room window. P.U.

@Yutsano:
I love me some architechetural pornopgraphy.
Yutsano
@Sarah, Proud and Tall: I thought mayhaps you were attempting to please suzanne. Please carry on my dear.

We just watched Hugo. I get why it won an Oscar (or several). The first half is a great adventure story about an orphan. A GREAT story. The second half is an indulgent love letter by Scorsese to early cinema. It was preachy, sentimental and tedious. I’m probably in the minority for half loving this movie and half being exasperated by it. Movies about movies are one of my hate-things.

Makes me click away. And not in a good way.
Comrade Mary
Nifty. Trippy. But I don’t think I could send a link to my sister, even though she’s been seizure-free for a few years.
And tonight I finally saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch and LOVED it. I was familiar with some of the songs, but the whole movie is worth your time, sweet and raw and weird and tender.
suzanne
Chopped about eight inches of my hair off today. I feel so damn LIGHT.
I wish I could do the same with the last five pounds off baby weight. SHIT.

@suzanne: Been meaning to cut my hair for the past month or so but this heat wave is the last straw. I am going to trim it down to crew cut length which will take about 14 inches off. I can do most of it myself with the clippers but I need help with ckeaning up the sides and back so I either have to head to a barbershop or to a friend’s house. I’ll add that to the list for tomorrow after “buy a new mattress” (and maybe a new couch too)
Yutsano
@MattR: I intentionally did not cut my hair right before surgery because I knew it would be awhile before I could do so. And just for fun I near-buzzed it.
MattR
@Yutsano: March 2009 was my last haircut and I buzzed it then (even got an old timey shave with a stright razor, though it did cost more than 2 bits)
Did you mean you intentionally DID cut your hair pre-surgery?
Amir Khalid
@Yutsano:
Oh, that reminds me. I need a haircut. (My grooming standards have fallen somewhat since I left the workforce, but I generally go for a No. 2 all over.)

Since this is an open thread… I’ve gotten to the point where I really loathe Penn Jillette. He’s such a glibertarian ass, and apparently his little friend is too.

@MattR: I shave my husband’s head. Super simple. You could do it yourself!

@Amir Khalid:
Wait, wait wait…this isn’t Sen. David Vitter’s fantasy blog :)
MattR
@Amir Khalid: One of the advantages of working from home.
@Thor Heyerdahl: Take off, eh?
@suzanne: I own clippers and usually do the maintenance myself when it is short, but every now and then I need some help to get the sides and back nice and clean. And I have the feeling that will be the case after 3 years without a haircut.
MattR
@suzanne: @MattR: I should also add I want a little extra help making sure the hair stays in a nice ponytail as I shave it so that I can donate it afterwards
The prophet Nostradumbass
@MattR: You made me realize that song isn’t even remotely as funny as I had remembered it.
Amir Khalid
@Thor Heyerdahl:
alas, nothing so, um, salacious. I’m referring to the No. 2 spacer they put on the electric clipper. (It’s shorter than a No. 3, which I’ve heard is the shortest haircut allowed in the British military.) It’s basically an idiot-proof haircut which I adopted because I kept misplacing combs.
Yutsano
@Amir Khalid: I am virtually zero-maintenance when it comes to my hair. I just run my fingers through it and call it a day. But I do tend to leave just enough on top to play with.
@MattR: I had needed a trim about two months before, but I let it turn into a shag until the weekend before. I knew getting around wasn’t going to be fun right afterwards.

@Sarah, Proud and Tall:
Ms Sarah knowing this about you makes me love you even more. :)
This was swoon-worthy play of forms and light and music. Thank you!
@MattR:
if you are going to cut it today may I suggest you donate all that wonderfully long hair to Locks of Love? It’s a great way of helping children with cancer, as I see you mentioning donating it I figured I would throw the link here/
Xecky Gilchrist
Cool video! Very Tron. To those who would watch, though – turn your volume down a bit. Sudden loud music that sounds like a bandsaw cutting sheet metal for the first minute.
Mnemosyne
@Valdivia:
Before someone comes in and complains about Locks of Love, I’ll point out that they help kids who’ve lost their hair due to many different causes, not just cancer.
For some reason, some people got their panties in a twist because LoL doesn’t restrict their donations to kids with cancer, but also donates to kids who’ve lost their hair for other reasons, like autoimmune disorders. They make it clear on their website now that they donate to any kid with long-term hair loss, but I’m still not sure what some people’s problem was.
Valdivia
@Mnemosyne:
Yes that was my bad. I knew about it through cancer patients but they do give their hair to any child who has lost their hair because of chronic illness. They do good work.
