Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Stay strong, because they are weak.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

“Alexa, change the president.”

In my day, never was longer.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

This fight is for everything.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

So many bastards, so little time.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Why is the mainstream media covering for Ann Romney?

This post is in: Romney of the Uncanny Valley, Seriously, WTF?

FacebookTweetEmail

I don’t ever want to hear anyone talking about liberal media bias ever again. Like, ever.

We’re still hearing about “clinging to guns and religion,” but Huffington Post and Andrea Mitchell Reports just up and edit Ann Romney’s own words to make her sound less privileged and snooty?

OH COME ON.

Why? The MSM wants those SuperPac dollars, therefore, the horserace continues.

Here’s a puzzler, how would the media (hence, the public) react if the First Lady were doing and saying all these things?

Well, after 98 links or so I got to the actual clip of Ann Romney talking. Tad bit annoying, ABL!

Also, too, it sounds like she says, “all uh people need to know” which could be interpreted as “all you people” or simply as “all — pause — people.”

“All people need to know” is annoying enough without making up a “you” where there’s a good chance there isn’t one.

Don’t make it about the “you”, make it about the content.

Errr…since ABL seems to think Balloon-Juice is a vehicle for getting people into her own personal blog, I might as well join the party!

I’m a long-time lurker, occasional commenter, and I’ve recently been hired to do editorial work on issues related to travel/history. Anyway, I’m new to the team, and looking to get my work out there.

So, if you have time, check it out (and “like” it, if you are inclined).

@Svensker: I agree with this; much as I loathe Mitt and Ann, I listened to that clip several times, and still am not convinced that she says “you people” in it. The content beyond that, though, is arrogant and loathsome enough. She may not say “you people,” but she may as well have.

Americans think other nations have sects and tribes infighting, but, excuse me, the Romneys belong to a small tribe of overly rich people in America, one percent of the population. Not dissimilar than slave holders of the past, some in that tribe think they have the power to keep us from reading, listening and thinking.

The DNC apologized today for making a horse joke in an ad the other day (they should’ve apologized because it wasn’t funny, but not because of anything to do with the Romneys). Mitt’s constant defense of this one aspect of his wealth is that it’s treatment for his wife’s MS. Fine. But I’ve never seen anyone ask Mitt when he brings that up, “Um, wasn’t your wife doing exactly the same thing before she was diagnosed?”

Great post. I noticed the HuffPo headline too, and wondered: “Gee. Why is it that when Obama’s quotes get edited, he sounds worse, and when Ann Romney’s quote gets edited, she sounds better?”

And it’s not like the headline had to be squeezed in. There was plenty of room to write ‘you people’ and not just “people”

As someone not usually sympathetic to ABL, I am with her on this one. My favorite “liberal” media is the AP, who never saw a story they couldn’t balance. Fuck Anne Romney and her $77,000 tax deduction wearing a saddle.

  25. 25.

    Jester

    July 19, 2012 at 5:43 pm

@ABL: If you and Cole want to make it more difficult for visitors to view the content, and think that the increased ad revenue you are currently getting as a result is sustainable, then by all means go for it. I genuinely mean that – go earn those dollars. I’m just telling you that some people find it annoying. Have a good evening.

For fuck’s sake, are we really complaining about CLICKING A LINK here? If you find it tiresome, don’t click. Simple solution. Back to the topic at hand. Ann Romney said ‘uh people’ just like Santorum said ‘blah people’. That is all.

Indeed. We know you have a blog. One thread on BJ in a day on this topic is already a lot.

Spoiled wife is ridiculous, but I’m just not all that outraged about it. Parsing her tone is getting a bit myopic. The substance is the issue: She is accepting the role of media surrogate, and we aren’t getting more tax returns.

    @ABL:

Sounds good to me. It’s a far better motive than the one for about 80% of the commentary here, which is, in a nutshell, “I have nothing to say, ever, but I am really glad for Balloon-Juice where I can say my nothing over and over again every day and even have conversations with other nothing sayers.” Not that there is anything wrong with that, but, it is what it is.

As for Ann Romney, meh. I wouldn’t worry too much about MSM and who they whore for and who they don’t whore for. It’s all about the whore business. All of it, including BJ, your own blog, etc. Anyone who gets paid to whore something out over the tubes or the airwaves is a whore. Period, dot. That’s not a bad thing, AFAIC. There is no rule that says that anyone has to be providing a fucking public service.

The responsibility for good information rests WITH THE CONSUMER, not the provider. Just as McDonald’s is not responsible for what you eat, MSM is not responsible for what you see/hear/read. You are. Improve your info stream, and STFU. When people are responsible and take responsibility for their inrormation stream, then they can be properly informed. Not before.

I live overseas (US citizen) and follow US politics as closely as anyone. Definitely an Obot, but I have always had low expectations of presidents. I believe they have greater capacity to harm than help (or better put, it’s much easier to do harm than do good). I think Obama has done some great things so I am pleased with his performance and thinking of the options of a second term for O or a third term for W on steroids, I think the choice should be clear for all to see. Anyway, I’m a single issue D voter (liking O is a nice consolation prize) and that issue is supreme court.

So, Ive been waiting to see any “mainstream” mention of the tax return issue. Not buried on the political blogs or political sections of the major news outlets, in the news sections and have basically seen none.

For me, I know an issue is “an issue” for a campaign when it makes news sections of most major outlets. And it hasnt yet. Until the tax return issue makes it there, its a nothing-burger. I hate the fact that it isnt, because I think it goes to core of what this election is about, but for some reason, it just isnt.

Not one headline, not one link, not one story. Some more local outlets have (Boston Globe, etc.), but the big, national boys and girls havent.
