Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

No one could have predicted…

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

That meeting sounds like a shotgun wedding between a shitshow and a clusterfuck.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

President Obama is on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight. Perfect timing, perfect venue. Will be fascinating to watch that conversation. Letterman tends not to be overly political, but nothing gets him riled up more than stupidity. I expect Letterman to be quite hilarious…the president will just need to smile and nod…

About all that’s missing is a direct statement recasting the so-called safety net as “Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?”

Have to wonder if Romney, Ryan and the Randistas/’base’ driving the GOP bus right now (with the pedal to the metal to oblivion) view A Christmas Carol as a tragedy and Scrooge as a misunderstood producer/venture capitalist.

    @Comrade Jake:
Holy cow, that’s bad for Romney. And she’s indicting the entire Republican party:

Time for the party to step up. Romney should go out there every day surrounded with the most persuasive, interesting and articulate members of his party, the old ones, and I say this with pain as they’re my age, like Mitch Daniels and Jeb Bush, and the young ones, like Susana Martinez and Chris Christie and Marco Rubio—and even Paul Ryan. I don’t mean one of them should travel with him next Thursday, I mean he should be surrounded by a posse of them every day. Their presence will say, “This isn’t about one man, this is about a whole world of meaning, this is about a conservative political philosophy that can turn things around and make our country better.”
    __
Some of them won’t want to do it because they’re starting to think Romney’s a loser and they don’t want to get loser on them. Too bad. They should be embarrassed if they don’t go, and try, and work, and show support for the conservative candidate at a crucial moment. Do they stand for something or not? Is it bigger than them or not?

    Loser stink. Bwhahaha.

    This Susana Martinez:

“Democrats should just remember Florida 2000 before they get cocky,” veteran Democratic strategist Karen Finney said. “It’s the stuff you don’t see that goes under the radar — the robocalls … fliers and mailings. … That’s the kind of stuff you can’t detect. Karl Rove knows how to win,” she said.

As of Tuesday morning, Obama’s post-convention bump was starting to fade…Romney holds a 5-point edge in critical North Carolina and is now within the margin of error in most polls of Wisconsin, once a solid-blue state put into play by Romney’s selection of native-son running mate Paul Ryan.

    All from the Politico article.

    @Bill E Pilgrim:

Not going to work, of course, but they must have polling that’s as bad as what we see if not worse, and figure it’s the only chance so what the hell.

Campaign Strategist: Well sir, I’ve got good news and bad news
Romney: Give me the good news first.
Campaign Strategist: Our legal advisors tell me that after the latest round of court appeals, we’ll have the ID laws locked up so tight that not a single Democrat will be able to vote in any of the swing states.
Romney: Excellent [rubs hands in glee]. I can’t lose!
    Campaign Strategist: ummm
Romney: oh yes, the bad news. How bad could it be..
Campaign Strategist: Well, our latest polls indicate a probl..
Romney: Who cares about polls if the Democrats can’t vote.
    Campaign Strategist: ..problem.
    Romney: Problem? Where? With who?
Campaign Strategist: The Republicans. They’re revolting.
Romney: PUHLEESE. Tell me something I don’t know [sneers]
Campaign Strategist: What I mean is we can’t find any..
Romney: You can’t find any Republicans? You idiot..
Campaign Strategist: Oh no, wWe can find plenty of Republicans. We just can’t find any that are actually going to, you know..
Romney: What? Spit it out you cretinous sack of..
    Campaign Strategist: vote for you.

@Political Observer: I really don’t think that Rove holds as much sway as that adviser is claiming. Rove merely provides the means for the ads that the right are running now, and because they flood the markets with those ads, the people eventually tune them out. Rove is lazy; he doesn’t focus on the ground game as much as he does on advertisements, and he is effectively wasting a fucktonne of the wingers’ money on shitty ads that have minimal effect. While I’m not saying that we should hit the showers at this point, I strongly believe that the Rove factor is overrated.

The key thing is that Rove collects a commission on every ad he places.

So, yeah, this is grifting the idiot billionaires. Rove is making nice coin with this scam of his, and the thing is, he doesn’t have to produce results. He can wave his hand and blame Rmoney for this disaster, and he’ll still have credibility with the idiot billionaires.
