Imagine how he’ll feel when he’s 16 and his Mom/Dad drag out these photos for his new girlfriend. Poor kid.
Oh, this is vanilla. There’s a kid now in college who I could toast at his wedding: “The first time I met X, he was half-naked in a hotel bedroom, surrounded by women in various states of undress, and screaming in frustration because he couldn’t grab every exposed titty at the same time.”
Then I’d add that X was a tiny breastfed infant carted along to a bridal lingerie shower, assuming he didn’t choke me to death first…

@Anne Laurie: Heh. It’s so cute how you make this sound like a hypothetical.
Aww, that is one cute peanut. And frankly, if I was future Cole scion’s teenaged date in 16 years, these pics would make me adore him in an unseemly fashion. especially for baby James T. Kirk.

@Mnemosyne: You had a list of Halloween pre-Code horror movies in an earlier thread, which I’ve managed to lose before getting a copy of the list.
Would you mind copying that list in this thread for me? Thanks in advance!

@thalarctos: Did you see that a few of us are going to be meeting up at the Montlake Alehouse on Election night? You’re free to join us!
Found it! I had to ask G which night it was this week that he had a bad day at the dentist to remember which thread it was in. It turned out to be the initial thread about JG’s dad losing his thumb, which could be in bad taste, but anyway …
The initial list was:
Murders at the Zoo Island of Lost Souls The Mummy (1932) The Old Dark House (Karloff again) Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (with Fredric March) The Invisible Man Freaks Mystery of the Wax Museum
To that initial list, I would add The Black Cat (1934), which just squeaks in under the wire since the Breen office opened in June 1934, so half the movies that year are pre-Code (though obviously there’s not a clear dividing line). I watched Murders in the Rue Morgue and it’s not a very good movie, so you can skip that one. It does have some fun set design ripped off from “Caligari.”
A couple of other ones: The Most Dangerous Game Dr. X
Also, two classics that are not pre-Code but seem to have slipped a whole lot past the censors are Mad Love, with Peter Lorre, and Bride of Frankenstein, which in many ways holds up better than the original film.
If you’re interested in reading about pre-Code films, I highly recommend Mick LaSalle’s two books, Complicated Women and Dangerous Men. I stumbled across the first one in a used bookstore and that’s what set me off to start looking at that period specifically.
I’m going to get my movie blog up and running one of these days, I swear …
As previously mentioned, Mad Love would fit right into today with its frank exploration of obsession.
Island of Lost Souls has never been topped as a H G Wells adaptation of “The Island of Dr Moreau.” This is the one which still gives me goosebumps.
Freaks, of course, is in a class of its own. Banned for decades.
While Dr. X is amazing; there’s enough plot for about eight modern movies, yet it’s less than 90 minutes and managed to accomplish a lot.

I have such a baby crush! He is all kinds of adorable. When my lil guy was that age, we put him in an ewoks costume. As a friend told me, “at this age, the days are long, but the years are short.” It is depressingly true.
My son will be 4 soon so the days of mommy deciding his costume are gone …as it should be. So you know what he wants to be? A MARTA train. Good luck finding that on amazon. The hubby is hard at work engineering something out of boxes and duct tape.
Adorable godson and the bug/animal costumes are cute and all, but that James T. Kirk get-up is the most awesome baby costume evah!
OT: Do we get a new update in the John Cole/Ladyfriend Balloon Juice Harlequin romance novel today? Been loving them.

That baby is just ridiculously adorable! Especially in that first picture, where his tongue is poking out. Enjoy these days…I know it’s a cliche and everybody says they go by fast, but holy crap…they DO. SamKitten was a baby for what felt like 5 minutes. Now he’s a lanky preschooler taking swimming lessons and playing with Lego.
I’m looking forward to when this next little guy arrives in January. I’m hoping that being rid of that “new-parent anxiety” will help me ease up a bit and not spazz out so much about sleeping habits and bowel movements, and all of the other things that wind up new parents to the point of tears.

That’s an excellent Nicholas Cage in Wicker Man costume.

I think the bear costume must be his favorite one so far, given that he’s so gleeful in that first picture that he’s sticking his tongue out.

I have been bumped to pron sites now twice while browsing BJ. Is it just me? Both times this week.

He’ll be a heartbreaker with those eyes and that smile. Adorable.
