Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

What’s on the agenda for the remnants of the weekend?

@? Martin: If you don’t belong to a faith community which has transitional ritual, at his next birthday you can create a ritual of your own to mark the birthday and the transition he is experiencing.

President Obama has decided to nominate Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) as the next secretary of State, according to news reports.

Finally some good news for John McCain.

    sigh

Kerry just turned 69 years old this week.

Surely there is someone a bit less long in the tooth to take up the position when it becomes vacant.

@? Martin: Mexico has the quinceñera, Judaism has the bar/bat mitzvah, and the South has cotillion for young people at age 16. You could hybridize all three or just do your own thang. But yeah, memorialising that age when a child becomes a young adult is definitely something to be acknowledged.

Just got home from a concert in the Just One Angel tour with Christine Lavin, Uncle Bonsai, and friends. “Friends” tonight were many, and included Julie Gold, who wrote, and here performs, “From a Distance“. Do look up all the artists in tonight’s concert, including also The Accidentals, David Ippolito, Erik Frandsen, Sue Matsuki, and David Rasche; every single one of them is worth it.

@srv: Yeah. John Kerry is a good man, a dedicated public servant, and eminently qualified for the post.

However, I really wanted to see the prez nominate someone else specifically to tell old fart McCain to shove it. Oh well, I suppose that’s one of those reasons why he’s the president and I’m not.

Tonight dr.mrs. handsmile and i had the great pleasure of viewing the digitally restored version of Children of Paradise on the big screen at the Museum of the Moving Image. Magnifique!

I’m conscious of the bitter irony of the film’s title on this day. But a necessary respite from the television and the ‘tubes.

Tomorrow, a performance of Bach’s Magnificat.

And PLEASE DON’T NOMINATE JOHN KERRY.

Take someone not in the Senate.

    Please please please.

There are plenty of qualified people out there who don’t have Citizens United looking to replace him/her.

Why not take a seasoned State Department diplomat? Surely they have a few.

I think this is a wrong meme. Kerry’s name for State was talked about since Obama’s first election. Those two assholes have nothing to do with this decision. I actually believe that John Kerry may actually be the President’s preference for State.

In the Citizen United world, I really get why people are freaking out about losing a senate seat, but damn it, if Democrats can’t hold into a senate seat from one of the most liberal states in the union, then we’re screwed. It annoys me to no end that so many Democrats are propagating this Scott Brown myth that he’s undefeated. Yes, he has a huge name recognition and is liked by the voters (I don’t know why). But, he was defeated once and he can be defeated again. All we need is for Massachusetts Democrats to unite behind a strong candidate and take the election seriously.

@Anya: “if Democrats can’t hold into a senate seat from one of the most liberal states in the union, then we’re screwed.”

Amen. That’s exactly what I’m thinking. Why is everyone so worried about Scott Brown winning the senate seat? He just lost, didn’t he? Just run someone good against him and he’ll lose again.
