Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Wait, what?

American history and black history cannot be separated.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Republicans do not trust women.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

No one could have predicted…

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

This fight is for everything.

Reality always gets a vote in the end.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Bob Barr Carries Virginia!

Do not listen to the exit polls. This was a warning.

In other news, I predict that the Democrats will win by exactly the margins in this thread. The numbers come from averaging guesses by almost 10,000 Kos readers and yes, that means that Obama will win by 351.69 electoral votes.

You say that is impossible? I have two answers for you. One – the famous jelly bean experiment proved that a huge number of people, guessing independently, can get disturbingly close to a correct answer. Two – Bush v. Gore. Like a fairy godmother that asks a lot of rhetorical questions the Supreme Court can do anything. That includes delivering a non-integer electoral vote.

BTW, Virginia and Indiana will be close. Mix a drink and relax.

Louise +1 (I just got home)

Do I have to mix my drinks? Can’t I just swig from the bottle?

I’m a wreck, hoping to be elated. HOPE, DAMMIT!!!

Plus, could James Carville be any more bitter? After Bill Bennett of all people started praising Howard Dean on CNN, Roland Martin turned around and asked James Carville if he wanted to retract his call for Dean’s resignation. Carville spit, lied and generally acted like a douche.

    You say that is impossible?

    "that is unpossible!"

Just please please please let Obama get far enough ahead that we don’t have to give a freakin’ RAT’S ASS about how Ohio turns out.

Doug Wilder’s got the whole old-style gangster look going on tonight. FYI, Doug Wilder is the first Democrat I ever supported, when he ran for Leiutenant Governor and then Governor.

Dammit, for once I don’t like living on the East Coast. It’s already 8:20 here & the earliest of results are just starting to trickle in. I can only hang on ’til 12:00-ish (gotta work tomorrow morning , after all) & I don’t think there’ll be a definitive winner by then.

Waking up tomorrow morning is going to be like Christmas: when my alarm goes off, I’ll leap out of bed & dash to my computer to check the results. And just like Christmas, I think tomorrow will be a very good day indeed.

C’mon raff. Stay up with us.

I remember the night in 1969 of the moon landing. My mom kept my baby sister up so she could witness history being made, even propping her eyes open.

This election is not just any election. This election opens the door to a new day. Dawn in America and all that.

Seriously, would you lose your job if you came in @ noon???

    Be here. Fuck the job.

    (yes you can)
