May I recommend the ‘off’ button.

There must be a format change in the works.
PsiFighter37
So take off all your clothes, Doug. Do as Nelly instructs
Belafon
Could be worse.

The question is not why they are, but why other radio stations aren’t.
Omnes Omnibus
A radio station in, I believe, Detroit of all places did that with the Bay City Rollers’ Saturday Night back in the ’70s.

Oooh, pseudo-music thread so this sorta fits here.
So ok, I posted the trailer on twitter, but I’ve watched it at least 2x and I know it’s just a teaser, but I’m still not sure how I feel about it. I love Boseman (he was great in 42) and I like the director and the actresses who are in the movie.
Watch the Frenetic Trailer for James Brown Biopic ‘Get on Up’
’42’ actor Chadwick Boseman gives his take on the Godfather of Soul
Anyway, I’m def be in line to see this one in the theatres, it’s taken years in the making, so I hope it’s good

Mr IOL has been updating my computer all day. Necessary since I was still running XP. So I just got on and am catching up. How weird is this news about that missing plane landing somewhere in China? I think China anyway.

@LanceThruster: yup. Standard format change stunt.
Jewish Steel
Our local college station did The Thong Song for a day.
Jewish Steel
I did some backing vocals for a band today and the engineer called this up.
Keith isolated on “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking?”
It slays.

March, Ides of.
Beware.
Suzanne
I might be able to listen to that for a couple of hours. That song is glorious cheese.

I’ve long thought that this was the least gangsta lyric in the history of hip-hop “Penthouse, roof top, birds I feeding”.

@Omnes Omnibus: The BayCity Rollers did a cover of Dusty Springfield’s “I only want to be with you” that I absolutely loved as a teenager. But nonstop “Saturday Night”, that qualifies as torture.
Omnes Omnibus
@DougJ: I think anything penned by Vanilla Ice automatically must be in the running for that “honor.”

LOl. Listenting to the feed.
It is 67 here today. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 28 and we get 1-3 inches of snow. I will be the first to admit I am no expert on climate, but that seems like kindof fucked up ….
Violet
@Belafon: Yes. From your linked article:

According to the googles, kvvf is supposed to be a Spanish language station, owned by Univision
Tomy
@Violet: I can’t recall the reason, the local station by me played “Another One Bites The Dust” for like a day. On repeat. Late 70s. My dad was such an anal person (as I am now) that he refused to change the channel and we listened to that darn song for like the entire day we were driving around.

If the front poster in question is truly in California, as he claims, then if he looks out the window he would note that it is still, warm, and sunny.
So it is safe to go outside.
Don’t jaywalk, and until tomorrow, stay away from men in togas with a mean and hungry look.
He should give it a try, that going outside stuff.
p.a.
@Jewish Steel: I would pay cash money for some Keith Moon iso from the beginning through ‘Tommy’.

Are we having a South Bay meetup while you’re in town? I live in a city adjacent to Santa Clara. I can recommend drinking establishments if necessary.

Has anybody ever topped the Louie Louie marathon?

@pacem appellant: Doesn’t look like DougJ is going outside. Probably traumatized by his home state winter and maybe don’t trust the weather to hold up.
Comrade Mary
Indie 88 here in Toronto did a week of this, over and over, for their soft launch. Their current playlist is a little different.
NotMax
Obvious that they’re trying their darndest to get you to leave.
Jewish Steel
@p.a.: Yeah! I was just listening to Wont Get Fooled guitar iso. So sloppy! All guitar students should hear that. It’s the performance, not the notes.
barbequebob
@Omnes Omnibus:
we had a station that did this as a progression where they played a continuous loop of X songs each day, where X was the number of days until format change.
American Pie was the last song standing

Here’s a cover of Hot in Here by Jill Sobule that I love.

This is the second place I’ve seen a story about this stunt, and I’m really disappointed by the general lack of Whoa, Nelly jokes.

When I’m in the Bay I catch 98.5 & 107.7. Used to listen to KFOG but they suck now.
Plantsmantx
This happened at a station in Houston in 1975, give or take a year. It was a deejay-less station, so for about a day and a half, the only thing they broadcast was “Rock On” by Davis Essex, followed by a taped announcer saying “That was Rock On, by David Essex”.

Ages ago, 98 Rock in Tampa played “Stairway to Heaven” non-stop during New Year’s Eve as part of their secret switch to an All Led Zeppelin format. It barely lasted two weeks when they realized 10 albums worth of material doesn’t stretch out the way you think.
