Same sentiment but the other way. Hoping for a 4-3 game and I won’t care who wins.

Highly researched team choice: I’ve been to SF many times and love that city; never been to KC, and I remember not liking that KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce. So, SF.
5.
HinTN
@Garbo: Just remember, if you have to buy, “The sauce is the boss” is the way to go.
@efgoldman: The Braves put all the games on cable this year, so I haven’t watched baseball at all. You shouldn’t have to pay to watch baseball. This is from a person who grew up listening to the Sox on radio.
Oh, no KC Masterpiece is not indicative of KC barbecue.
Go Royals!

I don’t have a dog in the fight — by default, I’m generally going to prefer NL to AL teams — but last night I was loudly rooting for the Royals, only to force a Game 7 so one of my favorite opera singers, Joyce DiDonato, could sing the National Anthem tonight. Joyce is a KC native and huge Royals fan, and she did a great job with the SSB (as much as one can do a great job with a basically unsingable song). Now I’m just watching for the intrinsic baseballness of it — don’t really care who wins as long as it’s a well-played game.
They’re actually late to the party. The Sox haven’t had a game on over-the-air local TV since the 90s. I don’t keep up with NYC TV but I’d guess the same goes for the Yankees and Mets. One of the reasons the Dodgers sold for so much is their cable network is coming on line.
All these cable stations are wholly or partially owned by the teams. I’m guessing the Braves’ is, too.
I still haven’t forgiven the NFL for moving the Monday night game to cable.
Damn hearing aid is state-of-the-art bluetooth but it’s a pain in the ass. When it is on phone calls go to the aid bay default but not after a delay. I also found that the audio on video recording doesn’t work if it is on. Glad I didn’t actually pay for the damn thing.

Royals are feelin’ it. Chased the pitcher already!
No visiting team has won a WS Game 7 since Jimmy Carter (the non-black one) was in the White House. Props to the Royals for making a game of it, but I just have a hunch that may change tonight.

Have been for KC since they made it to the series. The Fox announcers have cemented that with their unabashed rooting for SF.

@efgoldman: Your mention of the venerable Curt Gowdy (so many hours I spent watching the American Sportsman on Sunday afternoons) led me search for any important football games that he called.
I came across this clip, Raiders v Dolphins. Although it does not extensively feature Gowdy, it is a game from 1974 that I do remember watching.
@Gin & Tonic: It trashes me too much since I get up @ 5:30. The dvr is nice as long as I don’t wander out and look at the wrong website.

Mr. Suzanne is from SF, so he wants the Giants to win. I tend to like underdogs, so I’m kinda pulling for KC. Just hoping for some DRAMA. Baseball is usually so damn BORING. I want excitement.
K.C. Masterpiece is … well … not reminiscent of Kansas City. You might try ordering some sauce by mail order from www dot gatesbbq dot com. (No, I don’t work for them, but I’m a big fan of their Original–it’s great, and hardly sweet at all. It takes me maybe a year to go through a case of it.)

It’s almost painful that the end of this series is so exciting. I’ve been mostly meh since my two local teams, the Nats and the Orioles, got excused from further participation. Almost had to force myself to switch over and watch the last third of this game.
43.
Steeplejack
And the Giants win. Let me find something else to watch so I don’t have to endure the pointless post-game bullshit.
That’s the beauty of baseball – that it can so frequently end in a tense situation where the entire year hangs on a single pitch.

I choked back the tears after the Giants lost game seven in 1962, because big boys don’t cry. They were swept by the A’s in the ’89 earthquake series, and the roof caved caved in in 2002.. Now in my dotage, I’ve lived to witness them win 3 World series in 5 years. It’s really, really far out.

It was a good game, especially after last night’s punch in the gut. Across the Bay from SF, here in San Pablo, my homies are lighting it up with fireworks. Even the A’s fans are celebrating. The Royals did fight hard; they’re a class act. And without Maddy B, the Giants would have been toast. But there it is, Giants win. The parade’s Friday. I’m not going, but it’ll be a madhouse. Happy. Good night, all.

@Linnaeus: You got that right- this was a great series. It wouldn’t have surprised me at all had the Royals managed punch across the runs they needed, up until the very last pitch. The Royals proved the toughest competition by far of the 3 AL champs the Giants have faced in this amazing run they’ve been on.

@catclub: They just asked Pablo Sandoval about that on the MLB network, and he disagrees with your conclusion about how a play at plate would have panned out. As in, the runner would have been out. I concur with Pablo, and did in real time, too. Though it did momentarily cross my mind that he might turn on the jets and go for it.. but he didn’t.

Sad here in KC.

@Gretchen: KC is a great team, and fun to watch too. The series could easily have gone their way. In fact, without MadBum’s heriocs, KC would certainly have won. The team and the KC fans should be proud.
Once upon a time I’d have been glued to the series, no matter who was playing.
Once upon a time the weekend game would be during the day.
Once upon a time the night games ended by 1100.
Once upon a time great announcers, local legends like Curt Gowdy, Jack Buck, and Ernie Harwell called the games, superbly.
Same here. I remember taking a transistor radio to school to listen to the game with an earphone in study hall. I remember the 1968 series where we pulled a TV set and radio into the gym so we could watch the Tigers — our team 50 miles north from us — play the Cardinals. We turned off the TV sound so we could hear Ernie Harwell call the play-by-play from WJR.
This year the Tigers lost in the playoffs and I didn’t watch a single inning of the series; I was already asleep by the time the game came on; I was exhausted from chasing kids off my lawn.
