Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Giving up is unforgivable.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

So many bastards, so little time.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

Republicans in disarray!

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

People are weird.

Books are my comfort food!

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

How is this not the soundtrack for ¿Jeb?’s campaign?

I suppose, given the offer within the song of to “help build this wall,” The Donald might want to borrow a verse or two.

Not watching the Stupor Bowl tonight (though TBH, I might sneak a couple of glances, but it’s not an event in this particular keep). I will, no doubt, continue to search out good snark on last night’s GOP debate, or, as I like to think of it, Community Theater of the Damned. So use this thread for more fun at their deserving expense, or for a tally of alternatives to watching neurons collide at Levi Stadium, or for whatever floats your approved aquatic recreation device.

Good post. I mean, srsly, how pathetic can Jeb GET? First begging a NH audience to clap for him, and then breaking out the monstrous Bargoyle — his MOTHER — to say he’d be a good president. JHC, has he NO self-respect?

@p.a.: Something like 11 or 12 minutes of actual action in the 3 + hour event, last I heard. Part of why I’m trying to wean myself of the whole sport. Not only are there the obvious issues, I value that time.

I will, no doubt, continue to search out good snark on last night’s GOP debate, or, as I like to think of it, Community Theater of the Damned.

Hrmm. Well, can I point out that:

The candidates kept summoning President Ronald Reagan, whose 105th birthday it was. If only Reagan’s ghost had risen up and driven everybody from the stage, to uphold his vision of a welcoming America that his party has abandoned.

that the debate was so bad, the NYTimes has been reduced to begging for the return of Zombie Ronald Reagan?

    And also:

Watching [Rubio] campaign in New Hampshire, with speeches full of hope, humor and self-deprecation, it was possible to imagine the party actually winning back a few Latino voters. That, plus massive voter suppression, could improve the odds for the G.O.P. in November.

I do believe the NYT outed itself as looking (sounds like hoping to me) for a R victory this November. On the back of voter suppression. Even the Liberal New York Times. Gosh.

Soccer fans cite the greater actual playing time in their games compared to NFL games.
True, but 97% of a soccer match is boring and the scoring is low.
Hence the popularity of the NBA

Ah, yes. Reagan’s vision of America. So welcoming to white Western Europeans and brown people who knew their place.

I do believe the NYT outed itself as looking (sounds like hoping to me) for a R victory this November. On the back of voter suppression.

I do believe the writer just outed him/herself as a Reagan Democrat, The attitude that minorities are a voting block to be manipulated in elections, not people with political concerns, fits in perfectly.

Daughter insisted I watch the GOP debate for sh*ts and giggles even though I wouldn’t have. Well, in addition to the hilarious introduction of the candidates, which made JEB! Look, as usual, like a total sad sack we also had the hilarious programming misfire of the Rubio-bot making him state the same sentence about Obama again and again and again while being savaged by Chis Crisco for being a robot. Other than that it was the usual name-calling, stupid sh*t that makes the GOP debates an astonishing contrast to the policy-based Democratic debates.

@Omnes Omnibus: You know, it’s interesting, it’s been a long enough time since I saw the movie that I’d forgotten they redid the song with the brass and Geldof; in my mind’s ear that was always the album version of the song in that scene, which in some ways is even more terrifying since it makes the connection to a rock concert more explicit. Bits of it sound almost like doo-wop.

@Mike in NC: Mike – agree. While there were some wonderfully put together shots (like the gorgeous Malibu mansion overlooking the ocean), my wife and I left the theater asking each other, “what was that about”? Was it about the movie industry or Communism or the male ego or the Romans vs. the Christians or WTF? It seemed like a lot of acting talent wasted on a movie that, in the end, seemed pointless.

As a long-time Floyd fanboi, it is an abortion to listen to any Floyd song or concert without David Gilmour. Lead vocalist, lead guitarist and not a raging asshole like Waters. Yes, I’m being pedantic. Post is right on.
