Every single candidate I voted for in the primary except one member of the Board of Education lost today. Every. Single. One. I mean, I knew they would, but I was still holding out hope. Meanwhile, CNN couldn’t find one person of color for their exit polls.
Trump is going to win 60% to 70% of the vote here in November. Maybe more.
I’m going to go sob quietly into my pillow.
ruemara
Well, People of Color besides beige are happy to help save you from your fellow riceinians. #notallriceinians

You might want to consider wearing blackface to the polls in November. That way you’re bound to be interviewed and polled, and your registration will be minutely analyzed.

@bystander:
And then Very Serious People will write you off and talk about how Clinton needs to focus on everyone but you.
EDIT – Ooh, but when she wins the nation, it will be ‘yeah, well, she would have lost without the non-rice vote.’ You’ll be important AND delegitimized at the same time!
ruemara
@Frankensteinbeck:
Get you a demographic that can do both.

@ruemara:
I fear a large part of our current chaos is the rice demographic throwing a violent temper tantrum that ‘she would not have won without the non-rice demographic’ is a thing that can be true.
ruemara
@Frankensteinbeck: But of course. All that lovely privilege they kept voting against their best interests for and it’s still going away? Time to shit the bed.
Speaking of which, off to bed. So here’s some Babymetal. Hasta, people

@ruemara:
A brief, complete, accurate, and evocative summary. I salute you.

sad thing is, WV and places like it have been fucked in the ass the most by Republicans…

@cokane: They like it! They really like it!

Maybe you can spill some more chemicals in your drinking water?

Hang in there John, we’re still watching the cartoons – the movie hasn’t even started.
Ryan
You now, it’s possible to oversample people of color and then adjust their figures accordingly to get meaningful figures while not allowing them to have a disproportionate impact on the population totals.

My parents settled in Baltimore after a hillbilly-hegira from north-central WV where my grandfather mined coal, my godfather & favorite uncle died in a mine explosion, & my dad worked in the yard of a mine until they told him they were sending him down the shaft & he quit. Most of my maternal relatives (& a few paternal) are still in The Sticks.
With that as prologue, let me note that, were there a shred of honesty in that electorate, the state motto would be Isn’t it sad when cousins marry?

There are some states that are so culturally bound to self-destruction that you’d have to pity them.
Unless of course you f-cking live in one of them.
Dear God, I know of which Cole speaks. I’m here in the middle of Florida. I have a crook in the governor’s office, our school boards are filled with Randian Objectivists trying to switch our public education to overpriced charters and Christian camps, the city mayors are combating climate change flooding their streets, nobody’s building metrowide transit rail systems because God forbid we raise taxes to let poor people get to work, and the Miami Marlins are still a goddamn eyesore and embarrassment to the sport of baseball.

Nowhere, I mean nowhere, could be more retrograde than the area of Southern Indiana where my parents were from and where all of my extended family leave. The one change in the last 30 years is that some Mexican people have arrived, to do the backbreaking farmwork that the locals used to do, so at least the food choices have improved a bit. They haven’t arrived in sufficient numbers to change the politics or the culture.
It is no surprise that this is the region that had the strongest Klan revival in the last century. Take that, Mississippi.

@ruemara: long dead thread, but just for the record, I *love* Babymetal. So glad there’s another fan! That was a great blast-awake with morning coffee!
What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?
Y’know, if you live in/near the WV pan handle (not sure if you’re in the middle finger, the thumb, or in between), a few miles puts you in reliably blue, and reasonably sane, Maryland. Just a suggestion in case you want to stop sobbing about the state of your State electorate.
shomi
That must be one screwed up state.

@Ryan: Which answers the response I was going to make to John, which is that if they merely sampled randomly, their POC numbers (given the overall sample size of 763 in such a white place) likely didn’t give them statistically useful samples for any groups other than whites. That would certainly not be the case if they did this poll in a more diverse location.

The good news from yesterday is that the convicted felon who nearly beat Obama four years ago in the WV primary didn’t beat either Bernie or Hillary or even record even as a blip in the election. Bad for him he didn’t have a N***** to run against.

So what’s going to happen if Trump *does* (shudder) get elected and, predictably, does bupkiss to help their situation? They think they’re all going to move to Texas to work on the wall? You know Trump will hire cheap imported labor for that.
Denny
John,
I don’t think it’s because they couldn’t find “any” persons of color, it’s more likely that they could not find enough to generate a meaningful statistical sample. Still sad though.
grrljock
My sympathies. I know how you feel–I used to live in Texas. I remember the talk about it turning purple for demographic reasons starting in the 2000s, but the backlash has proven stronger, aided by the gerrymandering and vote suppression.

I just moved back to WV last June after 30 years in NC. I was so thrilled to be able to vote for Darrell McGraw. So heartsick that Don Blankenship and out-of-state $$$ bought another state Supreme Court seat.
But I’m not surprised that Trump is so popular here. Frightened (of both neighbors and family members I now avoid) but not surprised.
