Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The revolution will be supervised.

So fucking stupid, and still doing a tremendous amount of damage.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

This blog will pay for itself.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Michele looks lovely. Wade through the music, his speech starts at about .57

If there is any problem with this video, here is the C-SPAN link.

His dry humor just never gets old for me.

    Michelle is breathtaking.

Is that “Missing Obama Already” a new tag, or have we had it for a while? I expect it’s going to get quite the workout over the next four months.

I watched this, if it’s the same talk.

“Hope is on the ballot; and Fear is on the ballot!”

Damn he IS a good speaker. We do not deserve how good this man has been for this country. I’m so grateful for his hard work, in the face of unremitting racist opposition from people eaten up with evil.

@J R in WV: That literally sums it up. Make your choice – fear or hope. Hate or progress.

Has any election been clearer? Trump in retrospect has made McCain and Romney seem like wise, solemn statesmen. Palin included, somewhat.

@hovercraft: Thanks. I mean, I understand his frustration, there are like so many categories now, it’s impossible to sort through to find what you need. But there are only two Obama tags and neither fit what I’ve been posting lately, so I bit the bullet and created a new tag. Between that and the Walter tag, I think I’m justified.

That was so great. Over-used word, but I’ll use it here: Awesome. Missing Obama Already is a great tag, sure to be used many times.

God damn, tears in my eyes. Also, the call out that it would be a personal insult if people did vote in this elections…. Damn.

He’s a great speaker, and I am glad that most times, he asks something of the folks who are listening. Because he’s right: change doesn’t happen unless the people get out there and do the work and make it happen.

It’s almost easy to be lulled with a speaker as gifted as PBO – I know I almost feel like I’ve done something just by listening to him. But it takes calls and canvassing and registering voters and helping folks get to the polls. Let’s do the actual work here, everyone. And then we can watch “Obama’s Greatest Hits” on Nov 9th, knowing that not just the past 8 years of progress but 8 years’ worth of momentum are still rolling and we’re not going to be stopped!

(what can I say: I’m channeling my inner Donna Brazile & Michelle Obama here after yesterday’s rally ;)

My husband’s cousin’s son did an internship in D.C. last year between grad school degrees. His summary regarding PBO is “best president ever, we don’t deserve him”. I hope someday we’ll grow up enough as a country to be worthy of how highly he thought of us.
