If you live in any districts where one of these potential mass murderers lives, give them a call. (via TPM)
rikyrah
deep title.
Robin G.
Paulsen isn’t mine, but I’m calling Franken and Klobuchar to ask them to go talk to him. Give the Senators something to do rather than just wait around.
Keith P.
I’m watching Steve Scalise on TV trying to change the discussion of pre-existing conditions to that of continuous coverage. Isn’t that basically how insurance worked before Obamacare? For every group I joined when starting a new job, I had to show proof of prior insurance or else I’d end up with something like a 6 month probationary period of no (or maybe lesser) insurance coverage.
FlipYrWhig
One of them is my rep but I hate talking to people on the phone, so I fired off a pointed email. Fingers crossed.
FlipYrWhig
@Keith P.: I wonder if they’re trying to grandfather in the first wave of people who got insurance after Obamacare, then reopen the holes for the next generation of chronically ill to fall through. They do that kind of thing a lot.
Barbara
One of them represents a district where my husband’s family has lived and owned property for a long time and I told him to call because I think that is a good enough reason to assert an interest in the way he voted.
Keith P.
@FlipYrWhig: Even worse, some of them are talking about dismantling the employer insurance market. How many people would drop insurance at that point? I wouldn’t have had insurance until my mid-30s if not for automatically getting insurance when I start a job. And without them, what happens to groups?
FlipYrWhig
@Keith P.: Surely the free market will find a way to get cheap medical care to chronically sick people. Every company wants to be in that business! o.O
Eric NNY
NY-21 Elise Stefanik. She’s spineless and ambitious and doesn’t give 2 sh*ts about her constituents.
Betty
Tried Scott Perry. Line busy. Will keep at it.

@FlipYrWhig: Um, thanks? Emails could be a Russian bot, so they’re not a marker for voter sentiment. And if you think from a GOP perspective, that just makes sense: They’d hire a botnet to push a policy priority voters hate, so they suspect the same tactic from those who don’t hate voters.
Not to carve you out of the crowd; I’m sure there are many who prefer not to call and therefore do nothing, but I’m going to tee off on this whole thing for a minute:
While the sentiment is appreciated, know that what I hear is ‘I care whether you die of a treatable illness as your consequence for 21 years of self-employment…I just don’t quite care enough to be uncomfortable for 45 seconds.’
I hate running all over town to find a pharmacy that will give me the insured price. I hate wondering whether the advice I’m getting about my pain is connected to my insurance coverage. I hate advising my 11th grader that an IUD while she can get one is probably a good idea even though she’s years from being mature enough to have sex. I hate telling grinning sociopath GOP staffers about my uncle’s agonizing fast death because he didn’t have the money for a test to diagnose his cancer while it was treatable.
Those are some things I wish I had the luxury of not doing that I promise I hate as much as you hate making a damn phone call to say ‘please remind Rep. X that people who can’t get insurance end up dying earlier, so vote no on taking away insurance’.
I know that it’s hard to maintain the urgency about this problem if it’s not you…we whose lives and futures are on the front lines appreciate your help. Please help. KTHXBAI.

@PhoenixRising:
I was going to say something along these lines, but without the personal experience to highlight it. Thanks.
Please, everyone, call – it’s very quick and simple. All you have to do is urge your Rep to vote no and maybe give your address. You don’t need to be eloquent or usually even have a reason for your position. Making a call matters a lot.
Achrachno
I live a few minutes outside Issa’s district. I wonder if that’s good enough — will he listen? What if he finds out I donated to Doug Applegate in the last election? I probably poisoned any potential influence right there since that stuff is all public. My $50 may have cut me out of a hearing — but what if I threaten him with an extra $25 next time? I’m sure that’ll scare him. Sigh.
JMG
According to Greg Sargent of the Post, Upton told local Michigan radio he’s a “no.”
randy khan
@Achrachno:
Just call. They don’t usually ask for names and they certainly don’t have time to cross-check while they’re tallying the calls.
FlipYrWhig
@PhoenixRising: Trust me, if I talk to a human being, I’m going to hurt the cause.
mdblanche
We were told by Bradley Byrne (AL-1) staffers that after the changes, he was now “undecided”. I doubt it sincerely, but it’s a sign.
The Moar You Know
@FlipYrWhig: Actually, you won’t. Do what you want, but everyone here has been told repeatedly that emailing DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE THEY DON’T READ THEM. And I happen to know that’s the case firsthand. Had a long chat with Duncan Hunter Jr. about that on a smoke break, when I used to work next door to him. Phone calls, snailmail, and if the office has it, faxes – that’s all they pay attention to. Anything else, as Hunter told me – “they’re not serious about it”
I live in Issa’s district and have been calling them through the AARP hotline every day. That one, they always answer.
FlipYrWhig
@FlipYrWhig: I decided to send a fax. Thanks FaxZero!
Barbara
@Eric NNY: If she has pretensions to higher office she cannot possibly vote to repeal the ACA in New York. If her pretensions are to prestigious ambassadorships or some other appointed position, then I suppose all bets are off.
Another Scott
TheHill:
Keep calling, keep fighting!
Cheers,
Scott.
randy khan
@Another Scott:
Precisely.

Called Coffman’s office and left a message (after going through voicemail hell), also sent a fax. I’m not in his district but my zip code actually crosses two districts.
MomSense
Going to call Brrrruuucccee again.
Ugh

No one has any excuse for not calling, short of laryngitis — making calls is easy.
Google your Rep’s name, find his/her contact info on the home page. Try the Washington office, if they don’t answer, just go down the list of the different branch offices.
You don’t have to have a speech ready or even all that many facts. Just give you name and zip code and say you are against any changes to ACA.
I tend to babble on because I’m a yakker. Today I went into detail about my pre-existing conditions and what my life would be like if I couldn’t afford to treat them. That didn’t take any extra research.
Other days I just repeat whatever the last thing I read on the internet was.
Nobody is grading you on your presentation!
