A glorious tradition in DC – thank you Japan! – it’s often a magical, sensuous entreaty from Spring. I am so thankful for this submission, it really is a wonderful, glorious thing. I wish all of you could smell those fragrant blossoms as they drop and scatter on the wind.
Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!
Today, pictures from valued commenter Marge Feiner.

I was lucky enough to see the cherry trees one year. It was like the best fairy tale ever!

I’m going to be in Washington next week and hoped I’d see the cherry blossoms — I didn’t realize they’re only at peak gorgeousness for a couple of days. Maybe next year….Thanks for the photos!

@arrieve: @arrieve: There are later-blooming cherry trees that may be blooming by the time you arrive, a much darker pink and the tree is usually trimmed in a sort-of V shape. OTOH, the pollen count is off the scale and I am allergic to all of them.

Gorgeous! Thank you!

It was really crowded yesterday! Sometimes I go in person, and sometimes I just do the windshield tour, like this year. They are still very pretty, but only for a few more days, because it’s going to be significantly warmer for the next few days. Timing is all with the cherry blossoms.

Not only are the trees magnificent the people watching was equally good. Heard so many different languages. Some people were in native costumes. Children dressed up in pink to go with the flowers. It was a glorious day!

Those were beautiful.
Washington, DC, is a beautiful city. One of my favorite places to visit. So much history.

Plants with showy flowers attract insects (bees, etc.) and have sticky heavy pollen. It doesn’t get carried on the wind. Trees with nondescrit flowers like conifers and poplars have wind borne pollen. Cherries have a slight fragrance which many people with allergies react to so there’s that.

@Dan B:
I happily put up with the allergies. It’s all too beautiful to be missed.
