In a video announcing his exit from the 2020 presidential race, John Hickenlooper said he'd give "some serious thought" to running for Senate in Colorado. https://t.co/vnpYC2R0I0

Good for him realizing the inevitable. He decides to run for Senate, I’ll do a full standing ovation!
… The big picture: When Hickenlooper and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer met at the beginning of the month, a source familiar with the meeting said Schumer made his hopes very clear.
– “You could be the person who is the firewall between Mitch McConnell staying as majority leader in 2021 or the Democrats taking the Senate,” the source said Schumer told Hickenlooper. “Chuck Schumer needs John Hickenlooper real bad.”
– Earlier this week, Axios reported on a Democratic group that launched a “Draft Hickenlooper” campaign to encourage him to drop out of the presidential race to run for Senate.

I don’t know if that’s the best idea. It sounds as if there’s already a pretty good field of candidates, so I’m not sure how much good it would do to add one more.

The brightest people aren’t becoming politicians. Honestly it seems like pretty miserable work.

I kind of liked Hickenlooper during the debates. He seems kind of like an upbeat guy. I don’t want him to be president but if he’s a good fit for Colorado as Senator then I’m all for it. I’m glad the candidates who can’t break through are starting to drop out. More please.
Miss Bianca
@Roger Moore: There are a number of candidates, none of whom have anywhere *near* the name recognition or political resume that Hickenlooper has. So, there’s that. Personally, I wish that Hick had stuck to the plan of running for Senate in the first place.
@matt: Au contraire, mon frere. Just to name one example of a Dem candidate running for Senate in Colorado, Dan Baer .

Beto probably figures that if he lost twice in TX there would be no coming back. I actually think Stacey Abrams feels the same way. Until Beto’s money runs out his approach can cause great pain for the asshole and chief and shore up democratic support in suburbs. It’s just my opinion though.
Hickenlooper can actually win in CO so that’s a plus.

CVS is blocking access to birth control for disabled, rural, and other women who rely on mail order services.
Unsurprisingly, 12 of their 16 board of directors are men.
This is incredibly dangerous, restrictive, and disappointing. #CVSDeniesCare

@JPL: Does it matter if Beto runs out of other people’s money when he and his wife have around a half bil?

Not to be cynical, maybe better to call it realistic: we don’t know how many of the less likely candidates ran in the Dem primary thinking it would be fun to take a flyer on getting close to the nomination, but really counted on it as an audition for another job. Maybe that was the case for Hickenlooper.
I have no clue what O’Rourke’s chances would be running in Texas again, but I hope he could make a comeback there.
If some of the 1 percenters can use their primary runs to get an advantage in other important 2020 races, then I won’t complain about their vanity pres runs.

I’m repeating myself from last week but there are other Colorado senate candidates I could support more than Hickenlooper. I actually grew to like Bennet more and Hickenlooper less watching the debates.
But anything to be rid of the odious Cory.

@Miss Bianca: I really like Baer! Sending him some coin on Act Blue next week.

@rikyrah: A consequence of being forced by insurance policies to use mail order that I hadn’t run into yet.

@jl:
I think most of the minor candidates were either hoping to audition for another office or to try to push their favorite issue. My feeling has always been that Bernie’s main plan in 2016 was to try to pull the party to the left, but his ego got away with him when he did better than expected.
Miss Bianca
@satby: He’s a very nice guy. Smart. If you like Mayor Pete, you’d like Dan Baer.

Thank you Mr. Hickenlooper. May your example be followed by the rest of the white male candidates, those I know the names of and those I keep forgetting which one is which.

Hmm…this “let’s buy Greenland!’ thing could be what turns the whole trumpov 2020 campaign around…genius!
Or perhaps not
chris
@Jeffro: Investing genius! Greenland Real estate will be hot sooner than we think. Mind you, the Danes might have other plans but they’ll be up against the world’s greatest dealmaker.

@Miss Bianca: agree, they seem very similar. I like smart politicians, guess I was spoiled by Obama.
