Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

The revolution will be supervised.

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

When we show up, we win.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Wait, what?

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

Impeachment Inquiry Open Thread: Actions That Don’t Stand Up to Daylight

by Anne Laurie|  November 4, 20198:02 pm| 38 Comments

This post is in: Impeachment Inquiry, Open Threads, Trumpery, All Too Normal, Decline and Fall, Fools! Overton Window!, I Can't Believe We're Still Talking About Fucking Nazis, Let A Thousand Watergates Bloom

FacebookTweetEmail

There’s plenty of stuff a person with no moral code can get away with, as long as the ‘nice people’ around them are willing to look away. But when those actions are exposed in a larger forum, well… let a thousand Watergates bloom...

Jean Carroll today filed a suit against @realDonaldTrump, alleging he raped her. Trump has argued he can't be prosecuted for *anything* while president. But remember how GOPers pursued Bill Clinton for alleged pre-POTUS sexual harassment? Here's the first page of her complaint. pic.twitter.com/HUh8FB23n8

The House Has Begun Releasing Transcripts From The Trump Impeachment Inquiry. Read Them Here. https://t.co/KVn5pRS7uT via @BuzzFeedNews

— Hayes Brown (@HayesBrown) November 4, 2019

Meanwhile, there’s been developments in the ongoing public feud between a couple of the more prominent ‘alt-right activists’; Milo Yiannopoulous ‘leaked’ a tape of ‘dapper Nazi’ Richard Spencer reacting to the murder in Charlottesville. [Shock warning: Spencer uses racist, anti-semitic language.]

Today's a good time to remember that Trump's "very fine people" line was aimed at saving the likes of Richard Spencer and Jason Kessler from their desperate hubris of having invited every aging skinhead, Klansman and swastika-waving Neo-Nazi they invited to CVille.

— Zeddy (@Zeddary) November 4, 2019

It's a narrative that peaked in 2016 right up until Inauguration Day. When suddenly Richard Spencer became a meme. Going from the dapper white nationalist to Nazi Punch remix guy. pic.twitter.com/6M1CeMOrYs

— Zeddy (@Zeddary) November 4, 2019

That brings us to Charlottesville. In a hail mary play to up their numbers, Kessler et al publicly embraced the full spectrum of white supremacist groups, from David Duke to League of the South to NSM. "Unite the Right" was born.

We all saw the results.

— Zeddy (@Zeddary) November 4, 2019

In those hours and days after everyone, including civility-obsessed elites, knew what was obvious. The alt-right was indistinguishable from the forces that have murdered and terrorized the country for generations. And Trumpworld had played an instrumental role in elevating them.

— Zeddy (@Zeddary) November 4, 2019

…it was a young MAGA memer in a polo and khakis responsible for the most heinous act of terrorism that day.

Trump was bailing them out. Trying to save his loyal fanbase from their own PR disaster. So that they could keep being his trusty, fanatical overton shifters.

Trump has pivoted from sounding like a bigoted, lying blowhard to shrieking like a terrified howler monkey who doesn’t want to wear his little hat. This is what his supporters call “telling it like it is” or “being real.” They’re going to need earplugs

The WB (at least who they think is the WB) has already been named on RW twitter, Jim Hoft and I think maybe twitchy. I’m a bit puzzled by the fact that trump and others keep calling for the media to publish the name and they won’t. Would they be liable to a civil suit? I can’t imagine they’re worried about Barr

Everything people need to make a decision, whether it’s about the GOP’s/trumpov’s support for the blessed fascist “alt-right”, or the way Putin pulls trumpov’s strings, or the unending dark-money-funded corruption of every GOP official from trumpov to the town dogcatcher, is right out there in the open. Hell, for about 4-5 years now, it has ALL been out in the open.

#BREAKING: FBI arrested a 27-year-old accused white supremacist who had planned to bomb a synagogue in Colorado over the weekend

DENVER — Federal authorities in Colorado have arrested a man they accused of plotting to blow up a synagogue in Pueblo, a city two hours south of Denver, according to federal court documents.
The man, identified as Richard Holzer, 27, used several Facebook accounts to promote violence and show support for the Holocaust, writing in July in a private message, for example, that he was “getting ready to cap people,” the documents said.
The message included a picture of him aiming a long gun while dressed in clothing displaying white supremacy symbols. He told another Facebook user, “I wish the Holocaust really did happen” and, speaking of Jews, “they need to die.”

    Several Facebook accounts.

@JR: But the only reason Hillary brought up the “Basket of Deplorables” in that private speech to supporters was to speak at greater length about the other basket of Trump supporters.

But the “other” basket – the other basket – and I know because I look at this crowd I see friends from all over America here: I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas and — as well as, you know, New York and California — but that “other” basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures; and they’re just desperate for change. It doesn’t really even matter where it comes from. They don’t buy everything he says, but — he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won’t wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they’re in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.

At the time, and ever since, this part of what Hillary said has rarely been noted.
