The Stones and a galaxy of pop performers, Hollywood megastars and sports celebrities will appear in an event to "provide a moment of global unity in the fight to end COVID-19" and support health care workers combating the novel #coronavirus https://t.co/PPEdssHRs3 pic.twitter.com/6fj1ypgpp3

As some of y’all said yesterday, it’s especially nice that Keith Richards is showing up for this, since he’s no doubt as immune to the virus as he is to every other human weakness…
… The event put on by the international advocacy organization Global Citizen in collaboration with the World Health Organization and superstar Lady Gaga intends to “provide a moment of global unity in the fight to end COVID-19,” said its CEO Hugh Evans.
A-listers including Celine Dion, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder are all set to participate.
A six-hour streamed event will precede the prime time televised broadcast, with a laundry list of celebrities set to appear including pop star Christine and the Queens, actors Don Cheadle and Samuel L Jackson, and renowned soccer player Megan Rapinoe.
A Global Citizen publicist confirmed to AFP that all four Stones — Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood — would perform during the event…
If you can’t find someone whose work you’ll enjoy on the playlist (click to embiggen), you are extremely hard to please. Like my Spousal Unit, the classicist. So I won’t be streaming it, but I look forward to seeing clips on YouTube after the event, which I can watch while he’s not in the same room…

All four Stones? Darryl Jones has been in the band for nearly 30 years, ever since Bill Wyman quit. It’s high time they made him a full member.

@MomSense:
We’re all going to get a good look at the living rooms of all these rich and famous people. Well, at least you are; I don’t have Amazon Prime. ☹️

@Amir Khalid:
Stones have some new concerts on Prime now. Sweet Summer Sun and Stripped are both on now. They are my happy place now.
My oldest came home to quarantine with us and play guitar with his baby brother. He brought all his guitars home. Oh my. I should try and take some pictures so you can see them. I’m enjoying the music. They let me sing with them every now and then which is fun.

He’s been with them almost as long as Ronnie!

Anyone have recommendations for homemade mask sewing instructions? I’m a little overwhelmed by the amount of them on YouTube.
I made one from the Deaconess site, but it was a bit small & it didn’t fit very well since it didn’t have anything to form fit around the nose. The pattern also made you guess the size of the folds to use.
I watched video instructions for a mask that looked promising (mentioned in comments on this site maybe?), and then forgot to save it to my bookmarks. It was larger than the Deaconess mask, had a space to insert a filter, used a bread tie to form fit the nose, and had the folds on the sides measured out. I think it used ties instead of elastic, but I’m not sure.
Suggestions for masks other than the one I mentioned are also welcome!

@no comment: I ended up making my own procedure after attempting to follow some patterns online. I’m using high thread count cotton, cut to 8″ x 17″ then folded in half. You could adjust the size to make the mask wider or longer. I baste the two sides adjacent to the fold; you can also stitch the fourth side (leaving a couple of inches unstitched so you can turn it inside out and then sew the opening closed) or hem them so you can slide another filter into the finished mask. (I don’t do this; breathing through the two layers of thick cotton is enough for me.) Either way, turn inside out. Then fold the fabric. I never could manage to get the measurements right, so again I don’t bother. Just make three pleats; if they’re not even it doesn’t really matter. The fancy mask makers online sew the pleats closed and then add a stitched border. I don’t bother with that either. I just tack several stitches at each point on the edge where the folds of the pleat meet the layer below. I do happen to have some elastic, but I don’t find ear loops comfortable so I make two big loops to go around the back of my head. You could probably use any stretchy fabric to do that.
I do have a sewing machine in a closet somewhere but I’ve been stitching them by hand because I find it a soothing activity. It takes me several hours to make one mask so I’m not exactly cranking them out, but friends and neighbors have been happy to get them. They’re comfortable and washable.
Let me know if any of this isn’t clear. I can take photos the next time I start one.

@arrieve: Also I use painters tape to hold the fabric in place when pleating — less frustrating than pins. And you can put in a little pocket to put a piece of wire for the nose and remove that for washing, or just make it snug enough to pull tight.

It was, I think, Keith Richards who spoke what has become my mantra as I get older:

@no comment: I agree. Deaconess site had six height times nine width. Six height wasn’t enough for the three half inch folds. I have a sewing machine so can crank one out in 15 minutes. No elastic anymore, so ties across the top and bottom, which are actually a lot more useful. My elastic mask needs a lot of readjustment, which defeats the whole purpose, what with me fiddling around with the straps with my dirty hands.
Ties go around the head instead of around the ears. I bought shoe strings, but fabric ties will also work.
Another Scott
I’m watching it via YouTube – search for “Global Citizen”.
Cheers,
Scott.

@Formerly disgruntled in Oregon: Ron Wood joined the Stones in 1975. Bill Wyman left the Stones in 1993. Darryl Jones joined 18 years after Wood, initially as a touring member only.

Masks – if you need elastic, I bought a huge bag of cheap scrunchies on amazon and then gutted them for the elastic. Perfect lengths.

I really love that these singers have talent from their living rooms. Not a good time to be a drummer though, eh?
Have found some new people to check out. And I think Matthew McConnaughey (sp?) might have Mexican wrestling masks in the background of his office.

No comment @11: I liked the no-sew tee shirt mask from the New York Times. All it takes is an old tee shirt and a pair of scissors (I found the safety pins unnecessary). It ties in two places, around the back of your head and on top, which means it stays in place. Easy to google.
