More from Chicago gardener Misamericanthrope:
As a follow-up to last month’s submission of my Zinnia-dominated garden, I have decided to submit some closer views of individual blooms and groupings. Throughout the season I snap pics of some of the more photogenic vistas and individual blooms.
First up, a cluster of the tall cactus type Zinnias in a glorious yellow…..
……and a particularly vibrant cluster of the ‘Pepito’ dwarf variety…..
…..and some more ‘Pepito’………….
….and some individual blooms…..
There were also several new perennial additions to my garden this year. I added 2 new Clematis varieties to the mix. The blooms on the ‘Ville de Lyon’ were particularly nice.
I also decided to grow some ‘Green Mist’ Laceflowers from seed. The results have been very satisfying; it’s a joy to watch them develop.
One of the Laceflowers [top pic] was even in the perfect spot to offer a tribute to the urbanity of my garden!

What’s going on in your garden(s), this week?

Beautiful photos of beautiful flowers.

I receive most blog posts with mixed feelings. It is nice having one each and every week that I unreservedly look forward to. Thanx Misamericanthrope. Thanx Anne.

My veggie garden is all but done except for squash and peppers. My flower beds all look ragged and weedy.
The hummingbirds I fed all summer are long gone but every day I am treated to a few migrants who are grateful for a fortifying mid flight drink or 3. I rescued a young ‘un from a garden spider’s web. Getting it out of the web was easy enough. Getting the web off it was a little more problematic. Finally managed the feat under the kitchen faucet. It appeared to have dislocated it’s shoulder during it;s struggles. Folded it back up in a normal position and put the poor thing in my huge hydrangea for some rest and recuperation. A half hour later it was gone. Hopefully, should it need it, it can find a place to heal in for a week or 2.
I need to begin my garden clean up. Not sure I’ll have time to before the shoulder surgery. I’m already backed up on everything because of the stents.
Speaking of the stents, wow. What an immediate difference. My legs feel almost normal again for the first time in years. The miracle of unimpeded blood flow.

Saw that first photo and reflexively thought, “Chicago!”
Thanks for the lovely pictures.

I love zinnias but I have not been able to grow them consistently well. Great pictures.
I was disappointed this year at my tomato garden, but I have a bumper crop of figs that I have been picking and drying.

@OzarkHillbilly:Good news about your legs. I hope the shoulder surgery goes well. Garden can probably wait.

The pictures are beautiful and thank you for brightening our day.
OzarkHillbilly
@Barbara: It will, whether I like it or not.

@OzarkHillbilly: You must be on a first name basis at the hospital. When is the surgery scheduled?

Since last February, I have been battling with chipmunks to keep off my patio furniture and patio. I’m just tired of their shit. Anyway, I might have finally won, because I haven’t seen droppings in days, but Friday I did find a nice size hole, next to the patio in the grass. Grand imp plays in that area, and I didn’t want something to jump out and scare him. I did what I could to rid the area of pests, including using boiling water. Now my son is concerned that his mother might become a serial killer.

@JPL: It’s not yet. The sawbones scheduler called Thursday AM before I’d had the ultrasound. The stent Doc finally called at *7;52 that eve with the “All looks good” results. I called the scheduler back Friday AM but as usual I got her voice mail and as **best I know she did not call me back. She’ll probably call Monday.
* 7:52 PM? I was like, “Doc, you are working waaay too late.”
** Getting me on the phone out here can be all but impossible, unless I sit in the house and don’t move all day. That doesn’t happen very often.

@OzarkHillbilly: Really happy to hear about your legs. I have been thinking about you all week, and also hoping that you were smart enough to not even lift anything 2 lbs, let alone 10!

@OzarkHillbilly:
Glad to hear your legs feel so much better. ?for the shoulder.
These garden posts are wonderful and the blooms today are gorgeous.

@OzarkHillbilly: Glad to hear about about your legs. Our results have not been so good. I should have asked you for a doctor recommendation. Not only is the Mr not having good circulation in his legs, now they have found colon cancer. One condition impacts the other. We are struggling.
And I’m not talking about my garden today. I’ve got a long list of what’s wrong. The only thing that turned out right are the purple morning glories outside the back door.

Such sunshiny faces! ?

@OzarkHillbilly: I wholeheartedly second Ozark here:
No Blech attached.

@OzarkHillbilly: Great news on the legs!
But do you still wash one foot with the other in the shower?*
*One of the top three or four funniest things I have ever read on this blog.
Barbara
@Spartan green: Sorry to hear this. I hope things turn around for you and your husband soon.
Immanentize
@Spartan green: I am very sad to hear that — it’s rotten. Out of all the cancers my body may be cooking up, I think I fear colon cancer in the top two or three. Please take care and yes,
A deep purple flower can be like a balm in Gilead (perhaps my favorite hymn).

Love these. I miss my old Chicago yard

@OzarkHillbilly: @OzarkHillbilly: My SO had the same problem with her legs and feet. She had to have an aorta-bifemoral bypass. It’s a y shaped piece of garden hose running from the abdomen down into the legs. Three major incisions. She nearly died from the surgery, but she is doing fine now.

Question for master gardeners. Does anyone save seeds from their garden produce?
Geminid
This has an unproductive gardening year for me personally, but I’m enjoying other people’s landscaping. Crepe Myrtles have been a big hit in central Virginia, and they are in full bloom now. I must have seen twenty driving ten miles to and from Stanardsville this morning.
Crepe Myrtle used to be a Southern plant. But Yankees will be seeing a lot of these small trees soon if they have not already. Selective breeding and a warming climate are extending their northern range.

@Geminid:
They’re all over Ohio now, so they’re halfway there.

CTA trains look that blurry in real life too. :)
Great flower photos.

I know this is late but maybe you will check back in. I save and replant annual flower seeds that I know will grow example cosmos.I do not do vegetable seeds even tho I have had tomato’s, cantaloupe come up volunteer. I think I am lazy and busy working the produce to save seeds. I hope this helps you.@schrodingers_cat:
