    Yes – you’d have to look pretty hard to tell wouldn’t you? Because anyone would think that the ‘Bush is worse than Hitler’ skit is a mockery of the ’10 out of 10 terrorists agree anyone but Bush’ advert which has been running for months on Drudge (ie, pushed by the right themselves), certainly before they thought of a failed entry in an open competition which only the right have publicized.

    The site has certainly nailed those dreadful liberals for criticizing Rumsfeld! I mean, it’s not like he’s been in charge of anything important or is part of the administration or anything! How dare they when Ted Rall and Michael Moore clearly represent everyone and control the ZOG. Theyre the ones whose competence and credibility should be under scrutiny. That’s how democracy works! Just ask Ann!

    Hey Ape–what’s the matter? You can dish it out but you can’t take it? I’ve seen you write really vile ad hominem attacks on conservatives and the Bush administration in these comment sections. The site mocks the kinds of arguments left-wing haters like you make all the time.

    Is your point that only Republican presidents are fair game, and not liberal commentators? How dare those mean conservatives make fun of left-wing nuts like Michael Moore and Ted Rall!

    As for the Rumsfeld joke, if you don’t see the humor in it, well, I’m at a loss for words. Maybe you just need to lighten up a little?

    Which ad hominem attacks? I dont think I’ve made any. What I say does tend to be unconstructive: that’s a fair criticism, as far as it goes, but it’s not the same thing. I stick to the arguments and try to elucidate when they are not very strong or not cogent.

    The site linked to bases it’s mockery of ‘liberals’ on their criticism of Rumsfeld, despite the fact that there cannot be any question that Rumsfeld is fair game. His actions have been criticized from all quarters, including ex-service and diplomatic staff and the military press. The suggestion that people should not be able to criticise either him or the president, or are contemptible for doing so, is ridiculous. (What else is democracy? In the UK, there is the ‘official opposition’ to make this role part of the constitution.) If you want to refute someone’s specific claim, that’s different: “Michael Moore says X about Bush and this is why it’s wrong”; not “Liberals like Michael Moore so they’re wrong.” (Which ‘liberals’? What about MM?)

    ‘Liberals’ do all kinds of stuff: For example, Rush uses any old bit of research (trying to help explain a phenomenum, usually) to say that ‘liberals’ are undermining personal responsibility: (“THEY say it’s TV’s fault!”). Any false claim in tort is an indictment of this mass of ‘liberals’. The ‘Bush is Hitler’ and ‘Ted Rall is a traitor’ tirades could hardly be better examples of the ‘strawman’. (Who is Ted Rall? What are his arguments anyway?) I wonder if there is a single right wing commentator who have not filled some time with those subjects.

    ’10 out of 10′ is a genuine example of the kind of charges made from the pro Bush side against the opposition en masse. Rall is not. I certainly do not think AC represents Bush supporters: That’s not the point of mentioning her, but she sums it up herself:

    COLMES: Are all the American people that don’t support him [President George W. Bush] dumb?
    COULTER: No. I think, as I indicated in my last book, they’re traitors.

    Questioning Rumsfeld’s judgement on the reources necessary for the war, or suggesting that Cheney’s relationship with firms supplying services to the Government has been ethically questionable, for example, cannot be ‘ad hominem’ in the normal sense of ‘illegitimate’ because they are the administration and their actions are its actions.

    Christ, I live in an ultra-liberal neighborhood in Philly and every day walking home, i walk past a store with all sorts of witty little anti-Bush t-shirts, bumper stickers and the like.

    If i were ape, i guess i’d get a bug up my ass and go argue with the owner of the store and scream “oh yeah, what about Kerry!?”.

    Nor did I says liberals are wrong because they like Michael Moore—I said he’s worthy of being mocked..and he is!

    As Jeff says, lighten up.

    P.S. I agree w/ you about Rush Limbaugh which I is why I rarely ever listen to him–for that very point. He’ll say, “This liberal did this silly thing, so all liberals are silly.” But I don’t think it’s wrong to make fun of liberals, conservatives, libertarians, whoever when they make asses of themselves. And as far as I’m concerned—Moveon.org does.
